hobo123··on Why is the liver so weirdly regenerative?
Indeed, carbs, and cooking to make those carbs available (from grasses, tubers, etc).
hobo123··on Why is the liver so weirdly regenerative?
Also, liver-toxic people are really angry / choleric, while healthy people are relaxed and composed, so there's something to that.

You might want to check out the low vitamin a crowd. Some weirdos in there, but we all do very well. Seems to help with many autoimmune disorders (for me: allergies and nightly urination almost gone).

e.g. microberto on X, nutrition detective on YT

hobo123··on Why is the liver so weirdly regenerative?
If you like all those carotenoids and oxalates... If rather just have some onions for sulphur instead.
hobo123··on Why is the liver so weirdly regenerative?
Pathology... reminds me of all those studies with accident victims all over the world (and often as early as the 70s - today's numbers are likely much worse) that show 30% or half the population being liver-toxic in vitamin A (in all age groups). Lots of health problems are simply downstream from that.
hobo123··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
Forgot that vegans also tend to get tons of carotene, which even though the body downregulates conversion to retinol, isn't great (but omnivores and vegetarians also often overdo dairy so there's that).

Thank you, and don't forget zinc.

Also have to be careful that your protein sources (mainly legume-derived?) don't have too much copper, nickel, heavy metals.

I have no beef (sorry not sorry) with vegans or vegetarians, but indeed, be careful with your nutrition.

hobo123··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
Because they lack all kinds of substances that meateaters get plenty of.
hobo123··on F-Droid 2.0
Is it not available yet? Fdroid doesn't update, and downloading and re installing leaves me with the usual app.

Still, excited for when it'll be ready.

hobo123··on Linux support is coming to Snapdragon X2 series
Apparently vendors refuse to make (cheap) x86 CPUs that can run fanless, so it has everything to do with that.
hobo123··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
KDE had always been about adding 100 more features, 20 more toolbar buttons, etc. (and let that sink in)

I suppose some power users like that they can really do everything with it.

hobo123··on Nokia Design Archive (2025)
Well, they also thought it would be great to have a custom OS for every phone model. They had symbian-based S60 in different variations, S40 (or was it S30) in different configurations, some with Java ME support, some maybe not, and so on. Symbian came with different UIs I think, so some other vendor also had symbian phones that were completely different (was it sony?).

Clusterf...

And then Stephen Flop thought it would be cool to go exclusively with Windows Slown instead of the widely popular Android. (or arguably he was probably paid to decide that, coming directly from MSFT)

I can only imagine how defunct the organization Nokia must have been, with this cornucopia of different phones. Impossible to reform, so the only way for them to go was ... to go.

hobo123··on What Sun got wrong
Right, I still remember the dotted XaW scrollbars that would scroll a little or a lot depending on where you clicked them; and playing Freeciv with XaW in my early Linux days. Good times.

Motif was even released as open source OpenMotif, but faaar too late. The whole Xt architecture in general seemed like an overcomplex solution looking for a problem, and it was easier to either use Xlib directly or go the gtk route.

hobo123··on How did AMD Ryzen get 50% faster in two years?
Sure, but in my mind it feels like the CPU is slurping up individual instructions until it has enough to execute a whole bunch of them at once in one step (which would be equivalent to a big VLIW).
hobo123··on I said no and Apple said yes
That's why I use Linux Mint, even if some Linux guys might think less of me.

Switched from Windows 11. My work system is a Mac. I just love how the Linux gets out of the way, everything just works, UI much better and consistent than Windows.

And I'll probably keep receiving security fixes and app improvements in 10 years for my old Thinkpad.

hobo123··on What California is learning from solar panels built over irrigation canals
At least at those rates getting solar on your roof and a battery in the basement sounds like a bargain.
hobo123··on What California is learning from solar panels built over irrigation canals
Great breakfast read, thank you!
hobo123··on What California is learning from solar panels built over irrigation canals
Soon we'll have rc (because AI-controlled will probably not permitted for legal reasons) roboguards.
hobo123··on How did AMD Ryzen get 50% faster in two years?
With CPUs becoming wider and wider, it's almost like they run VLIW instructions, only more flexible.
hobo123··on Apple has added persistent 'ads' to iOS, and it's driving users crazy
And even if you have automatic updates turned off, Apple will still start downloading the 15 gigs for MacOS 27, just in case...
hobo123··on Samsung is expected to more than double output of its HBM4 and HBM4E DRAM
And by stealing you mean exchange? Or I somehow misunderstood what you consider a market to be - a place for pickpockets?
hobo123··on How OpenAI Used Its Own LLMs to Design Its Jalapeño Chip
How do super sized supermodels feel about "LLMs"?
hobo123··on How to Write with an LLM
True, is mostly about the code being merged, but when reviewing a PR they might suggest that the dev write better commit messages in the future.
hobo123··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
I'm assuming he was talking about a specific situation where discrimination occurred? Anyway that's two completely different things.
hobo123··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
Literally insane that banks will allow you to do banking on ancient phones with an unpatched Android full of CVEs, but won't allow you banking on a modern ungoogled OS.
hobo123··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
I remember trying phones in stores (shortly before Windows phone died). On Android you'd touch the phone and get instant reactions, on Windows you'd touch and wait for a slow woosh animation, until a few seconds later a text only app would finally launch. embarrassing.
hobo123··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
Reminder that by now the Android version is also quite usable (typing this from FF). Just install Ublock origin.
hobo123··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
Where in those comments is the "white replacement theorist"?

Sadly, the to me most important parts of Maps are live navigation and live traffic status. I'm assuming you can't get those with osm (yet).

The actual maps are much better in osm than in Google.

hobo123··on How to Write with an LLM
But that's a code review issue. Nobody should get away with shoddy commit messages like that.
