He made a minor mistake. In his high estimate, he used the high end of the range for de-duplication savings (20%) when he should have used the low end (5%). Not a big error (something like $4.5m/mo instead of $4m).

I wouldn't use this honestly. I don't get anything from it that I can't from manufacturers' sites. Every manufacturer has a "build your own car" link that has colors you can choose. Theirs often even let you choose interior colors too.

Manufacturers' sites suck, but this doesn't give me the info I need to skip them, so I'd now have to use two sites instead of one. This site is just a subset of the manufacturer site I'm already stuck using, and to be honest their color pickers work better.

I'd rather the latter though. 100x return on $.5m is $50m. I only need to hit three of those to equal the larger return and I've got 100 shots to do it with the same amount of capital.

In general the big investments are "safer" since they're in later stage companies. For instance I'm pretty sure Zynga will IPO, Listia's a long shot right now.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure they won't make 1000x on Zynga. If Listia IPOs they might do better than that.

Smaller bets are higher risk, higher ROI.

I love it when startups at least attempt to drag businesses stuck in the old way of doing things kicking and screaming into the new reality.

Especially not when your company has a solid plan for making money. Digg never did, Dropbox does.
