hmmmm··on What Not Buying Oil With Dollars Means
The USA has been able to get away with printing dollars because it sold things people wanted (an had to pay for in $) - the article alleges that this is no longer true.

>done just as nice with a properly named function call.

So instead of view = projection * model; you would prefer.

view.SetVector(Multiply3x3matrixWith3x1Vector(projection.GetMatrix(),model.GetVector());

Should we allow floats an doubles to be multiplied with a'*' or should that use properly named classes

Except that if oil is priced in dollars and you have a dollar printing factory then oil is effectively free to you.

If my ISP accepted pictures of my cat rather than insisting on pictures of president Jackson it would make a big difference to me.

hmmmm··on Evil Maid goes after TrueCrypt
Most corporate laptops support it, IBM/Leonova do. The problem is how do you know there isn't a master password (for AMI's bios it used to be "AMIBIOS") how do you know their encryption is any good (there was an enterprise tape vendor that advertised DES encryption but actually just XORed the data with your password)

And finally how do you know they haven't done exactly the same trick but replaced your bios with one that includes a keylogger?

hmmmm··on Evil Maid goes after TrueCrypt
Even easier to get around. Truecrypt uses your passphrase to decrypt the key which is then used to decrypt the disk. With a ID tag it would just match the tag generated number with it's own algorithm and then decrypt the disk . All the evil maid would then have to do is add a line to the Truecrypt loader that said if key=999 unlock anyway.

So if my car is stolen and used in a terrorist bombing I'm also liable?

Some more examples:

John Collins, 57, who runs a software company from a room at his home in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, received letters saying he needed a licence for the classical CDs he played while working. "If my wife Susan brings me a cup of tea and hears the music then I might be liable," he said.

Even dogs and cats do not always escape targeting. Follybridge cattery near Peterborough and Stokenchurch dog rescue centre in Buckinghamshire, which play Terry Wogan’s Radio 2 show to their "guests", were both told they would need a licence in case any workers heard the music.

Austria is in the EU, would you trust Jörg Haider with your gay rights mailing list?
hmmmm··on Judge: Mobile Phone Ringtones are Not Concerts
They won with musical instrument shops that do have to pay a public performance license in case a customer plays a known tune while testing a new instrument

A couple of problems: Iceland is small so although it has an image as a cool sensible safe Scandinavian country it wouldn't take many voters to put in a far right/far left president who might screw up your business model.

Do you know the details of Icelandic law? Does your corporate lawyers? Your regulation compliance officers? How many Icelandic Intelectual Property specialists can you hire tomorrow? There is a reason that banks have HQs in London/New York - they have a few hundred years of case law that they understand.

Iceland is bankrupt, which means it is under thumb of the IMF which means it will do whatever Washington says. Do you want your data to be ruled officially by Reykjavik but unofficially by MPIA/RIAA/Whoever says.
