hmartin··on The lamps in my house
Thanks for the $$ I'm about to spend  :sob:
hmartin··on Web Search API
I've been working on a TypeScript package to provide a unified search API across these providers:

https://github.com/hbmartin/agent-web-search

So this gives a unified search experience without adding another cloud hop and dependency.

hmartin··on Apple Pass Designer
No, you cannot manually turn on HDR on iPhone.
hmartin··on Show HN: Make cursed fonts like Times New Bastard
Also clicking the logo is really fun!
hmartin··on State of Engineering Is Horribleium
"I am going to make sweeping generalized statements about an entire industry after two whole weeks of experience at one single company"... ok
hmartin··on Show HN: Scry, programmable internet search w/ congestion pricing
HN: This site looks like all the other slop, awful to read.

Also HN: This site is doesn't look like other sites, awful to read.

hmartin··on Telstra outage: The night a network decided the year was 2006

hmartin··on Infinite-Parameter LLMs: Generating and Adapting Weights from Live Data
That's not what the original comment is saying at all (if I'm reading it right). It's saying that negative results are valuable knowledge that are difficult to discover and collate since they tend to never be published. Nice high horse tho.
hmartin··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
Am I the only one struggling to parse the distinction System One (the system/harness?) and Jev (the model?)?
hmartin··on Show HN: An e-ink frame that hears birds and draws them as 1800s illustrations
Agree, this was really a beautiful thing to see!
hmartin··on Txt: A fast, keyboard-driven terminal text editor for engineers
Is this even still under development? Last non-renovate commit was early June
hmartin··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
Aren't most American bibles printed in China? (Source: hazy memory)
hmartin··on Nvidia to acquire Hugging Face
This is the most compelling case I've come across:

https://www.decodingdiscontinuity.com/p/nvidia-hugging-face-...

tldr; Acquisition is an option on Hugging Face becoming the distribution and data-creation infrastructure for open physical AI.

hmartin··on Reverse Engineering Unknown File Formats with ImHex
Spoiler: half the time, that unknown file format is a zip containing a sqlite db
hmartin··on Where did the old web go? We followed 657,607 links to find out
Site got hugged? Is there a torrent?
hmartin··on Lego building instructions through time
Good call thanks! Added screenshots:

hmartin··on Lego building instructions through time
Might as well mention a couple of lego projects I've been working on, a parts browser TUI and a 3D model (eg .stl or .obj) to lego model (ldraw) converter:

https://github.com/hbmartin/pyldraw3/

https://github.com/hbmartin/legolization/

I'm actively trying to get good instructions out of the legolization project now

hmartin··on Show HN: My 13-year-old built an ant colony tracker
Neat to see, brings back some great memories! And sorry on behalf of the decent people of HN for the weird haters who don't know ant species names or want to crap on the AI-ness.
hmartin··on OpenAI frontier models and Codex are now available on AWS
Wish I could fail hard enough to have a (nearly) $1T startup with some of both the smartest models and smartest people.
hmartin··on Show HN: OpenGravity – A zero-install, BYOK vanilla JS clone of Antigravity
But... does it clone Antigravity's commitment to storing keys at well known locations on disk in plain text?
hmartin··on Be Alexandra Elbakyan
Um......
hmartin··on Claude for Creative Work
"Available on Pro plans. Maybe. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that Terms and Conditions will change tomorrow. Still can't differentiate tabs and spaces[1]."

hmartin··on Generative AI Vegetarianism
Is it a bit ironic that, while I certainly believe the author did not use gen AI to create this post, it reads like the most mindlessly AI generated post ever?
hmartin··on Show HN: Skrun – Deploy any agent skill as an API
Thanks for sharing a cool project! Just fyi, more idiomatic English would be "eager to have your feedback" since "impatient" implies frustration.
hmartin··on OpenAI's fall from grace as investors race to Anthropic
What kind of OI slop is this?

5.4 Extra high >> Opus 4.6

hmartin··on Cherri – programming language that compiles to an Apple Shortuct
Could you explain more about how the signing setup works?

(That's what held me back most for spending more effort on shortcuts.)

hmartin··on Improving Composer through real-time RL
Step 1: take an open source model with zero acknowledgement.

Step 2: build on someone else's infrastructure innovations with zero acknowledgement.

Step 3: Write a blog post with "unprecedented" and "100x" and "trillions" in the first paragraph.

Seriously, this seems like cool work and enjoyed the post. But my basic trust in them has completely tanked.

hmartin··on Flighty Airports
Love Flightly, one of the best apps ever. Beautiful design + incredibly useful info.
hmartin··on Floci – A free, open-source local AWS emulator
Thanks!
hmartin··on Waymo Safety Impact
"words" is plural...
