hislaziness··on Does a Final Theory Exist?: A Conversation with Alan Lightman
"if you were offered the answer to a scientific puzzle, would you take it? Surprisingly, half of the scientists said no — too much would be lost by not engaging in the act of discovery"
hislaziness··on Dilbert Dropped by Newspapers over Creator's Racist Rant
I have always had this predicament. Should we separate the art from the artist?
hislaziness··on My mindfulness practice led me to meltdown (2021)
I think the author is confusing Buddhism and mindfulness.
hislaziness··on Down the Cloudflare / Stripe / OWASP Rabbit Hole
Definitely Stripe should have done a better job here. However, also points to the risk of allowing service providers to handle your security. Maybe there should have been a back test and or a "maker" "checker" control for pushing new security rules.
hislaziness··on Ask HN: Sam Altman, things that will be retain value post AI

hislaziness··on The Janet Language

hislaziness··on We Found an Neuron in GPT-2
It is interesting, when I (definitely not a bot) read the headline I thought the grammar was wrong. took me a while to that "an" was not an indefinite article here. In the article headline the first alphabets of each word is capitalised and somehow it was easier for me to understand what the "An" meant here.

hislaziness··on Why is subtracting these two times (in 1927) giving a strange result?
I have seen this same point being posted on HN many times. Just a simple search on 1927 gives the following results on the first page -

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5537601 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2824973 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7427110 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5292612 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7366504 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7023598 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4601633

Is there any way to eliminate these reposts?

hislaziness··on The Indian sanitary pad revolutionary
I see a lot of comments discussing the cost. I do not think cost (or profits) were the driver. Surely higher cost make it difficult for poor to acquire the pads but the taboo is a much bigger hurdle to cross, which this gentleman has amazingly addressed.
hislaziness··on Chess Opening Moves
Knowing your openings goes a long way in getting an upperhand in chess. Knowing the openings and end games can give you a lot of edge. Have a look at this http://www.gautamnarula.com/how-to-get-good-at-chess-fast/ the guy explains how to get good at chess.
hislaziness··on The Tuesday boy problem, in under 300 words
What if they are twins? The explanation does not cover that and it sure changes the probabilities.

hislaziness··on Ask HN: Passive income ideas?
Monetizing your hobbies/interests would be a good way of enjoying your free time and make some money. It won't be very passive though.
hislaziness··on Cryptography is a science, not engineering
My takeaway from this conversation - No amount of mathematics can address human stupidity.
