Using "this" to generate response might cause lot of confusion.

What is the benefit of creating a web app that only works in 1 particular browser? Or is this not a web app?
highwind··on Learning to Code vs Learning Computer Science
If you believe that the only role of schools is to teach useful skills, then you are correct.

But I believe that the role of an educator is more than that. School should teach our kids to see the world for its beauty and to understand how it works. Practicality of subject material should not be a factor in what we teach our kids.

There's a reason why we should teach Shakespeare, proofs in math, music history, kickball and beauty in algorithms.

Teaching our kids useful skills is important, but as a Teacher, I believe it's more important to instill in them the eyes and tools to see and appreciate the world around them.

You can download bootstrap, modify their variables and compile it yourself. That way you don't have load more than one files and have rules that will never get used.

Can you give an example of an opposite way?

Problem is that if the browser doesn't support viewing of the file, then both links will cause a download, which can be confusing to the user. I think we need a way to see if a MIME type of a file is supported by the browser (including its plugins.)
highwind··on Bing doesn't support SSL
Yeah. I remember TL;DR meant wall of text, kinda same way RTFM was used. It was a response to something not a tag to indicate what you were doing. How things change so fast on the Internet.

highwind··on Announcing Yeoman 1.0 beta 4
True. But you cannot expect that their boiler plate is good for everyone. As you become more familiar with a technology, you probably want to create a boiler plat that works for you. I find that tools like Yeoman keeps me from learning a tool when I'm just starting out and when I become good enough, its boiler plate is just not good enough.
highwind··on W3C finalizes HTML5 specification
Actually, it says clearly on the article that the next version is HTML 5.1. Here's the draft of it: http://www.w3.org/TR/2012/WD-html51-20121217/
highwind··on Google Maps for iOS
So when Apple decides drop Google Maps as their default, they probably thought that it'll bring more value to their iOS platform. But obviously that didn't happen.

Now that Google Maps is back on iOS, I agree that it's a win for Apple as well. But someone please explain it to me how it could have been a win for Apple to drop Google Maps in the first place?

highwind··on Goldman Sachs: Windows' true market share is just 20%
Still, the article says "Microsoft is in danger of becoming a small player in today's global computing market". Which is not backed up by the data provided by the article. Unless we have the raw numbers, it could well be that Microsoft has been growing.

The fact that the total share of MS has been shrinking doesn't necessarily mean that MS is a small player in the global market.

highwind··on IPv6 Attack Kills Mac OS X and makes Windows Server 2012 restart in Seconds
Does anyone know how long it took for operating systems to implement ipv4 in a secure and stable manner?

We'd first need to somehow revive him before we can take him on a Delorean ride.
highwind··on That square QR barcode on the poster? Check it's not a sticker
If there are thousands of foot traffic by the 80 stickers per day, then I'd say 10 scans in a month do sound relatively scarce. But you are right, 10 != no one.
highwind··on Don't Be Lazy, Use HTML Labels Correctly
Are you thinking Improperly nesting elements?

    <i>Some <b>text</i> here</b>
In that case, the label tag surrounding the input tag doesn't violate this rule.
highwind··on Launch any browser/OS right from your desktop with Sauce for Mac
Still. I feel like the price is way too much. The recommended plan is $149/month. For the long run, buying a decent machine and running your own virtual machines would be cheaper.

Someone prove me wrong.

highwind··on APIs that will transform the Web in 2013
Once thing I still have hard time understanding is Chrome App Store and Google Chrome Apps. I'm guessing it's something akin to Adobe Air, but has there been any success stories with Air? Also, I feel like Chrome App Store goes against the idea of open web.
highwind··on OCZ Vector 256GB SSD Review
I agree. I believe their performance increase far out-weighs their high failure rate and high cost. Just make sure you have good back up.
highwind··on Apple Maps up to five times more data efficient than Google Maps
Can anyone compare this to the Google Maps on Android? Downloading vector based map will obviously use less data than raster map image (different one at different zoom level nonetheless). I don't see how this is much of a news.
highwind··on Writing good commit messages
I think I would write "Fixes bug foo".
highwind··on Writing good commit messages
If you are going back in time in your commits and let's say you want to go forward. It just flows better to see it as a command when going in to the future.
highwind··on Writing good commit messages
I understand the justification for the DOs. But what's the purpose of that single DON'T?
