Some responses approached the reason, but they are essentially the behemoth financial interests of the various pension funds of essentially all the state governments and corporations, high net worth family funds, institutional money like university endowments and REITs/IRA/401ks, even many foreign sovereign and pension funds like the Scandinavians, Dutch, Germans, etc.

As you may be surmising, this not only carries rather major domestic risks if pension and other domestic funds start crumbling, but it also has massive implications for foreign countries’ domestic financiers and social stability, but it also has geopolitical implications from it.

During the post housing fraud period, a rather understated change was implemented to encourage accounting to not mark real estate to market value, i.e., record what the market is willing to pay, but rather keep real estate on the books for whatever value one would like to keep it at by various methods and practices.

What that essentially affected was a cooking of the books to prevent on book from showing losses. It is essentially still going on, but especially in commercial real estate since the COVID happenings.

You now still have massive buildings essentially still totally empty, all still valued at full occupation valuation even though they are, e.g., only taking in barely enough to cover operating costs in a freeze state, i.e., minimal services.

This is where things like property taxes come in, as the properties are still assessed at fabricated values, and property taxes are used to fund the local governments, everyone with financial interests in commercial real estate (many, because it was considered very safe) are now crying for mom. It gets a bit off topic here, but I think you get the gist.

You are being crude about it, even though you have a good point. The problem with this perspective that I used to also share is that either advantages are largely in the process of collapsing at the moment, i.e., more money in the US and more quality of life in Europe.

Inflation from money printing and immigration is eating away higher salaries and lower costs that made suffering the corporate hell tolerable for many people; and in Europe money printing and immigration is going to collapse the social welfare and quality of life fabric of society.

You are not thinking past the first point. Considering what these people have been doing lately, even if you are currently on their good side, what happens when you’re not or don’t want to serve them anymore? Think places like India and Brazil may be rethinking their supply chains right now?

I agree with this theory even though I am not even sure it would require a specific modification like the mentioned heating wire, if you can simply use the existing circuit with some instruction to cause component overheating with the same effect.

Another reason I do not believe it was an explosive is that a clandestine explosive installation would have resulted in far greater damage and included shrapnel. Because why would you not install very high explosives and shrapnel in a shape charge that directed the explosion into the likely body of the wearer if you are taking the risk of intercepting and making a physical modification.

This is also less Stuxnet and more infiltrating insecure systems of vehicles to drive by wire accelerate cars into objects. There have been examples of this

I suggest you dispel of this notion that the players in this game have any sense of rationality or logic about this topic. There are massive (many trillion) commercial real estate interests at play here that totally trump all productivity, health, and even the holiest of holy climate change benefits. I don’t think people quite understand the real order of priorities and issues related to remote working. The big corporations are under both pulling and pushing pressures from the government and interests that control it to “put butts in seats” in big commercial real estate. They don’t care about anything else and they are throwing around money and fear to whip everyone into shape.

Yes, there will be some pressure pushing back and dread by corporations stuck between the ol’ rock of competition and the government-favor hard place, but it is unlikely to win out at the corporate level unless some real independent competition rises that is putting on massive pressure by not having commercial real estate capital expenditures.

A small office in a city can easily cost $1M per year, sure there are tax benefits, but they’re not benefits if you are competing with someone that does not have those expenses at all or far fewer, even after paying for team meetups that also fund a family vacation.

highcountess··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
What all these discussions about home vs office work largely miss (I’ve seen a few tangential mentions) is that so much of this debate has a far different priority driving it than people think, it’s both capital investments and system pressure to keep the house of cards standing that is driving all meaningful measure of this issue and corporations/CEOs are willing to sacrifice the aloneness and even productivity and profitability of their employees in order to maintain the overall system and serve the central planners in the government that are pressuring them to get the commercial real estate house of cards stabilized by utilizing the floor space … even climate change and destruction of the planet’s climate (if we can believe the inconsistent propaganda in that regard) be damned.

It’s time to shut up and “toe the line” as I’ve been told from regarding this kind of matter. If it chokes down to it, you could even be a specialized and expert in the field that they absolutely need; if you defy them, at least be ready to move on or even be laid off. In this kind of authoritarian system, nothing else takes priority over obedience … no matter how much your corporate “family” would be cutting itself deep in the flesh. I know this from experience and repeated observation.

highcountess··on America's best-paid CEOs have the worst-paid employees
If you want to hit em where it hurts we need to make money printing and the directly associated deficit spending and national debt accumulation, a cost of the top ~5% of income and asset holders.

To your point, the only reason that it makes any sense and that corps can even pay for lobbying is precisely because of the inflation fraud, robbery. It is the very scam and theft of value through inflation (among other methods) that provides corporations with an abundance of money to lavish on politicians who then have an abundance of money to lavish on those corporations ... rinse and repeat. Make the cost of inflation directly payable by the ruling class through taxation on both their income AND wealth and so many problems are solved immediately, literally overnight things would start shifting. Work would become valuable just like your savings from that work that you could put to good use for yourself rather than having is stolen by the ruling class/government woudl also increase; and CEO con artists (persuading into having confidence) would lose value and so would "investors", which is just people who know how to get close to the spigot of value theft from the middle and lower classes, for distribution to those who seek favor and pledge loyalty. In essence what we now effectively have and seems to be emerging ever more is a new kind of feudal and aristocratic structure.

We still have the titles and posesions that are given out by the lords and dukes and kings, and we have the peasants that are exploited; only it is now made a lot more efficient and profitable through the currency based money system. Remove the fraud and theft of inflation and you bring the whole system down and you can do that by simply making those who enriched themselves through deficits and national debt that is nothing more than taking out loans in other people's names (yours) in order to bank the money, then also responsible for paying the debt they plundered off/down.

highcountess··on America's best-paid CEOs have the worst-paid employees
I can simplify all of that for you. The core bottom of the rabbit hole cause is that detrimental things are profitable for the ruling class, which is inverse of a positive or universally desirable outcome, and that has only gotten exponentially worse over time. So, making things like costs of wars, crime, foreseeable natural disasters, drugs, immigration, inflation, deficits/national debt, etc all the financial responsibility of those who profit from these things and are responsible for the outcomes; would immediately stop things like the kinds of wildly disproportionate CEO pay, because it would stop "money printing", which would end deficits, which would end national debt piling higher, which was used to inflate corporations and make "buy-backs" and which would have turned off the need for immigrants to undermine the salaries of workers in order to turn the delta in to profits and executive bonuses. It's not even really that hard, it's basically just a derivative chain that is getting out of hand and will likely cause the collapse of the USA because it has even been driving all the accumulating and overshadowing geopolitical issues. Do you think we would be in the Ukraine trying to ankle bite Russia and bleeding ourselves dry if the ruling classes were suffering massive costs for their little 2014 regime change consequences adventure, rather than making massive corrupt and plundering profits and gains?

Think we would have invaded Iraq if it had cost the ruling class $5 Trillion dollars of their wealth? Or Afghanistan for another $5 Trillion? Do you think that 9/11 would have even happened if listening and acting on all the warnings preceding the event would have meant costing them another $10 trillion of their wealth? Would the housing cricsis have happened? Would they have pushed the "target 2% inflation" and would the inflation be "transitory" if it had cost them, effectively all their wealth they accumulated only through that inflation and deficit spending and national debt accumulation?

It always frustrates me that people cannot understand that the things they support on one hand that makes them feel virtuous (I won't even mention one because peopel can't handle having their delusion pierced), are exactly the things that empower the things they are opposed to on the other hand.

We cannot solve "500x what the avg worker at the company makes" without even really understanding the black box that you get immediate aggression in response to even suggesting we maybe open up and take a look.

There are so many sacred golden calfs that people will defend to their proverbial or even literal death; all the while lamenting the things their golden calf causes.

To repurpose an iconic phrase: You are quite zealous about knowing so much that just is not so. I asked a question and that caused your model of self and cognitive dissonance trigger to have struck a full scale alarm for some reason.

I encountered you types when I opposed the Iraq war and am therefore not responsible for mass murder and destruction and knew there were no WMDs too, but your intellectual brethren back then (perhaps yourself even) were also just as zealous about knowing what they know that was flashed on their brains through trauma just as today. Do you see no problem with the fact that it was the same plundering, lying, deceiving, evil, murderous government you now also just believe and fall in line with?

Why are you so fearful? Which of course it is, since no one with courage simply does and believes unquestioningly that which is most servile to there abusers.

Video games and guns themselves being the cause of shootings are just typical unhealthy excuse making in order to avoid having to actually address the real issues that would require consequences or accountability for and by people who very much do not want any consequences or accountability to affect them in any way, whether that is individuals or groups.
highcountess··on Is Telegram really an encrypted messaging app?
All the encryption stuff is just a red herring to a larger degree. It’s not the technical access to the information that is the issue, it is that people can share and exchange information that the various regimes do not want shared that is the primary issue. They want censorship, i.e., control of thought and speech, arresting the information flow.

They know what is being said and that’s what they want to arrest, that information can be sent and received. And by “they” I mean more than just the French. That was just coincidental and pragmatic.

The French state does not operate that quickly on its own, to get an arrest warrant five minutes after he landed and execute on it immediately. That has other fingerprints all over it in my view.

Considering that it is solely a function of how influential, powerful, how much part of the aristocratic circle you are, or have bought them off that determines whether you are thrown in jail or are celebrated; by definition is is a clear signal that the law is broken.

Just because you can't rob a bank or pollute a river does not mean that the law is applied equally at all levels and, e.g., the government/Fed is stopped robbing our banks through inflation and debt, or the corporations they are beholden to are punished ro polluting and poisoning our bodies and environments.

highcountess··on X ordered to pay €550k to Irish employee fired after yes-or-resign ultimatum
so now you’ve taken your savings from higher American income and lower taxes and are feeling and bidding up prices for European locals?

Yes, you can be layered off a lot easier in the USA, but you also can jump around and chase higher income that isn’t regulated by the government.

The problem with your perspective is that people in America still want to make 30-50% more than in Europe for the same job and they want to pay 20% less taxes, but they also want all kinds of services and protection.

So I will go out on a limb and guess you are so self-righteous because you have a large savings pool, so you tell yourself “I don’t mind paying higher taxes and making less money because I have security” … largely because you have your savings, which you are also using to make life for Europeans unaffordable but bidding up prices.

That is an accurate representation of how it used to and in theory work. Quaint

highcountess··on EFF’s concerns about the UN Cybercrime Convention
It goes well beyond that. There are other means of communicating remotely and privately that are probably at least as old as human self-awareness. Technically speaking, we would need to consider many of the prehistoric cave paintings remote and private communications since no one knows what they mean besides the small group of humans that made them 20,000–40,000 years ago.

I am not sure what the current state of the issue is, but there was an initial effort to restrict gun sales in various devious and deceptive ways since it is illegal to overtly do so because it is legal trade and economic activity.

I would not be surprised though if the clear illegality of the violation of the Constitution of such efforts were brought to the attention of the payment processors, and they were reminded that they would severely regret hastening attention on an effort that still needs to happen, a public electronic payment processing capacity.

highcountess··on Twitter kills its San Francisco headquarters, will relocate to South Bay
That is a quite ironic statement considering that Twitter has been an integral part of modern social engineering to reprogram people into accepting and tolerating the intolerable and unacceptable.

So here we are, at a point where people not only self-censor, they will even get violently aggressive or simply will suppress speech or even the ability to read or hear what someone has said if it diverges from the cult rules that have been imposed on our whole civilization.

highcountess··on Big Macs and the Cost of Living Crisis
I don’t know the answer, but I have noticed something clearly rather odd going on in the grocery sector/industry, an industry that was probably the least affected by the lockdown command economy than any industry and by far margin.

There is one niche but growing discount grocer that effectively has prices similar albeit elevated, from pre-lockdown prices, while other larger, mainstream general grocers have far higher prices, as measured by staple goods like eggs, milk, beef, chicken, etc.

highcountess··on Google loses antitrust suit over search deals on phones
Considering that the recent Google code leak only substantiated that Chrome is the honey pot for surveillance and data harvesting that people long suspected, even any supposedly not ad related work is technically also ad related work.

It’s something people have a really difficult time preaching logically, the veil of deception of many things. Another big example is TV, which are ad sales companies, not TV show distributors, even if they’ve successfully swindled people into a mindset where they actually pay the providers, for the privilege of being sold advertisement.

It’s really a rather interesting and eye opening segment of largely the US society that is both extremely dominant and has effectively been extremely damaging, and yet, people simply cannot see that they are like mindless drones, being programmed and reprogrammed with TV shows and advertisement.

highcountess··on Improving cat food flavors with the help of feline taste-testers
The problem is that especially nowadays where there are just not as many mice and people have cats for emotional reasons rather than us working animals, cats are responsible for killing off local songbird populations and otherwise damaging if not collapsing ecosystems because they are effectively invasive species in most places of the world. Famously, Australia is probably the best example, where cats are/have devastated the ecosystems, including pushing around 30 species near extinction, along with all the other problems due to invasive species.

Unless you have a barn where mice thrive, it is not advisable to let them out to eradicate the local songbird or amphibian populations.

I find it rather odd that after all the years of exposed and revealed conspiracies too numerous and pervasive to even necessitate listing any of them, people like you just reject the notion that any additional, unknown conspiracies may exist.

It is an odd phenomenon among humans that I at least don’t quite understand, the seeming tendency to ignore or dismiss possibilities of proven negative outcomes … for whatever reason. “I know all those other conspiracies I dismissed all turned out to be true, but I am sure I would know if there were any additional conspiracies” … totally ignoring one’s track record.

It appears to be the same kind of mentality of “hey, you know who we should trust with our lives … the government made up of people who lie to us, steal from us, and mass murder on a regular basis; that’s who we should give control over to.”

People conspire, I’ve witnessed it personally numerous times; sometimes for greedy business reasons, at other times to mass murder and commit genocide on a scale not seen since. Humans conspire, even if sometimes only because they’re not prevented from doing so naturally.

Given all the other variables that introduce a bunch of noise to the player movement data, I doubt you could ever determine any useful predictive pattern.

If anything though, I could see how player behavior of match winners could be used to both identify varying level of cheaters and players that use various methods for providing an advantage (i.e., keyboard mouse, joystick extensions, etc) and automatically sequester or even handicap their accounts.

It appears to me that so much effort is placed on trying to identify and hamper cheaters in real time, when that both seems extremely resource intensive and unnecessary, considering you have all the digital evidence proof of cheating you need after the fact, you just have to understand what you are looking at.
