hienyimba··on When did Google get so weird?
Your selective bias makes you sound like a Google employee.

You selectively left out examples like Grindsoft that gives the site a 79/100 ranking. or several LinkedIn, X or news sites that link to the site and have covered it positively.

Nevertheless, if Google uses ScamAdvisor to rank new sites (when scamadviser itself says its gives new sites lower rankings due to low age/history), then it might be time to pack the company up.

hienyimba··on When did Google get so weird?
Actually, the reverse is the case. If the entire internet was filled with only "positive-quality sites", there won't be need for a search engine.

The work of a search engine is to wade through the internet and find the positive-quality sites itself.

hienyimba··on When did Google get so weird?
I just gave a concrete example but you're asking me to "search". search same Google? FYI, only indexing a handful of super large news sites does not a search engine make.
hienyimba··on When did Google get so weird?
Google is no longer a search engine anymore. They don’t care about being one. Why you might ask?

First, a search engine indexes the web and makes it available to users. It’s been ages since Google did any of that. They no longer index sites or take ages to do so. Case in point, our cybersecurity startup (Webvetted.com) was launched in November 2025. Till date, only one page is indexed on the entire website. And I’ve talked to lots of other developers and it’s a common issue.

Secondly, a search engine organizes indexed information and makes it useful for people. Google is a basic LLM nowadays. They figured out that why organize and make the information useful when they could just answer the question with Gemini anyways? So they no longer bother to do the work of a search engine and are now just a lower-ranking open-source Chinese LLM

hienyimba··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
https://Webvetted.com

It’s an AI Private Investigator that does the hard work of data gathering (using Open Source Intelligence) and correlation. Used by over 70k investigators including government agencies.

hienyimba··on Salesforce to Acquire Fin (formerly Intercom) for $3.6B
The "AI" "agent" "helpdesk" they pivoted into is such a grift. AI agents still does not solve the main issues that makes a person contact support in the first place. How do I know? I was a founder in the space.

but good for them that they got salesforce to buy it.

hienyimba··on Show HN: ChartGPU – WebGPU-powered charting library (1M points at 60fps)
Right on time.

We’ve been working on a browser-based Link Graph (osint) analysis tool for months now (https://webvetted.com/workbench). The graph charting tools on the market are pretty basic for the kind of charting we are looking to do (think 1000s of connected/disconnected nodes/edges. Being able to handle 1M points is a dream.

This will come in very handy.

hienyimba··on Ask HN: One IP, multiple unrealistic locations worldwide hitting my website
We’ve been experiencing the same thing. On further inspection, we discovered that the owner of the data centers was Tencent. So we blocked them at the ASN level across countries.

This was after web had to geo block China & Singapore some weeks earlier.

These AI scraping guys are destroying the web for normal folks in these countries where they run data scrapers.

hienyimba··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025)
A vetting tool for sellers on Fabebook Marketplace (which we all love to hate) to vet Buyers before they meet them irl. check it > https://webvetted.com/detect/social/facebook

what it does: you enter a name and it assembles an OSINT-style report on any Fb user. its early but it works great.

hienyimba··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
Currently building a service around the domain https://ScamAI.com

the service is a suite of online vetting and due diligence tools for website flippers, Fb marketplace sellers/buyers and Tiktok shoppers

The domain has an interesting backstory. I acquired if it n 2022 from Epik after they stole the $10,000 I had deposited into their Escrow service. The money was meant for acquiring a newish stable diffusion hosting website that was competing with civit.ai. When the Epik issue was discovered, the seller pulled out.

Acquiring that website could have changed my life.

hienyimba··on Sen. Bernie Sanders on the disastrous unfettered Free Trade (2011)
One thing this really points out to me is how no one really believes in anything. Bernie Sanders position today is markedly different from this 2011 position only because of current party affiliation
hienyimba··on Laravel raises $57M Series A from Accel
As someone who has primarily used Laravel for almost 10years, this makes me sad. Laravel being venture backed will put all sorts of pressure on the company and force the project to be modified in so many ways to justify the capital raised. From my knowledge, the company was churning along quite well. I wonder what the money raised will be used for.

hienyimba··on Show HN: HelpMoji – Build Co-pilots for your favorite Games
This makes sense and it’s something we’re working hard on building. You can use any temp email to test it out in the meantime.

I was racking my brain to find the right terms to help people understand what we’re doing
hienyimba··on Android Games on PC
What I’m saying is that the product landscape is already quite mature. The product adds nothing new or spectacular to the landscape. They will struggle with internal motivation to maintain an also-ran product.
hienyimba··on Android Games on PC
You can already do this on PC using the Windows Subsystem for Android. The major issue surrounding WSA was that it was too technical to setup for most PC users so we built an app for our non-technical users to solve this. Right now, Google building a standalone app for only Android games (people use Android apps fairly on par with games on PC) and then insisting on a slow rollout will most likely make the product go nowhere.

Calling this now. This is a likely candidate for the Google graveyard.

hienyimba··on Google, please do something with your ads and SEO-spam
Whenever articles like these are published, I wonder who the Author thinks does the work of writing free articles on the Internet just for their pleasure. Content is expensive and is created by writers who must be paid.

To demand quality articles from the Internet, you must be willing to pay for them. Nobody exists just to write free passionate articles on the Internet and earn no money from them.

hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
This is not possible. You cannot fund your account with more than $30 per day unless you are have the highest verification and right now, the limit at those levels is just $60.

It will take you years to move $100k at $60 per day.

hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
No it wasn't.

All payments must be manually authenticated. I have replied the parent comment.

hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
Your prognosis is not quiet correct.

Users have to manually fund their cards. This takes care of all the issues you mentioned above.

hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
UPDATE from Justuseapp.com: Stripe has reached out to us and working together, we have resolved this issue and our account has been re-enabled.

I cannot thank Hacker News enough.

Running a business all these years has been hard and full of Ups and downs. I do not recommend it for the faint-hearted. Until this morning, I had almost given up hope that our business was dead.

Thanks for bringing us back from the dead HN.

hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
Free trial cards were not issued with Stripe Issuing.
hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
Privacy cards means the cards protect the user's real cards not their identity.

If you have ever been hacked or cannot cancel a renegade subscription, you would quickly grasp the need for Privacy cards.

hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
Hey, the blog post says we incorporated in the U.S from abroad. We did that with FirstBase.io.

Concerning the cards, we do KYC before the cards are issued and we submit same to Stripe. In extreme cases, we ask for users Govt-issued IDs. Our service might be anonymous to the outside facing world but our users are not anonymous to us and Stripe.

hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
We preempted this by using Stripe radar along with our own tools. The fact we had only one charge-back in 3 months which we won, speaks to the efficiency of our protection mechanisms.

Finally, all bigger software shops face this issue so we are not unique.

The free trial cards were not offered with Stripe. They were offered with Flutterwave. It was launched in March. We started with Stripe in June.
hienyimba··on Stripe banned us for payment disputes but we never had a single dispute
This was due to us trying to please Stripe as users on VPN (anonymous IPs) were more likely to be fraudulent according to them

We literally don't have the resources to do so at this point.
