hiddentao··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (May 2024)
SEEKING FREELANCER(S) | Remote | Web3 PvP NFT project

I am working on a Web3 project that taps into NFTs and PvP mechanics, with the potential to go viral. The concept is unique and hasn't been seen before. It will be launched on the Base chain.

Am looking for the following people:

* Front-end developer to help build out the interface * Social media operator to build hype on socials and manage the Discord

I built and launched a v1 prototype of the project [0], and am taking the lessons from that to launch a much improved v2 that will (hopefully) be more viral.

To apply, email: team [at] v42 [dot] space

I launched Mailmask (https://msk.sh) recently, trying to solve the same problem. Welcome to the club!
hiddentao··on Akasha: A Social Media Network Powered by Ethereum and IPFS
Will this use Swarm instead of IPFS once it's out? Also, using contracts costs gas. So how will that be paid for? What's the business model?

Hi! I'm a polyglot developer from the UK currently based in Taiwan. I've worked with various languages and platforms, all the way from J2SE/J2ME through to Drupal, Django and most recently Express, Angular and React. I'm a fast learner and can effectively work in a team and/or take the lead on a project. I contribute regularly to open source projects and have a few popular NPM modules.

hiddentao··on Show HN: Heartnotes – offline, encrypted diary app using Electron.js
Hey everyone, author here.

This is just a mini project I decided to do in order to learn how to use Electron.js to build desktop apps, plus the fact that I wanted a diary that did encryption properly.

Right now there's just an OS X build (because that's what my machine runs) but it shouldn't be too hard to get Linux and Windows builds going too in the near future. Also, the diary features are a bit limited (e.g. not date changer yet).

hiddentao··on Why We Should Stop Using Bower – And How to Do It
I'm trying to move away from using Bower and just stick with NPM, but that's purely to simplify my project setup. I'd rather have one package manager managing all my dependencies.
hiddentao··on Show HN: Free, instant, secure, disposable chat rooms built in Go
Good work. Though I have to say I've seen so many of these web-based "secure, private, anonymous" chat services now, I've lost track.

What we need is end-to-end encryption and with an open source client that just has to be downloaded and built/installed once (and in such a way that it's verifiably secure, think reproducible builds).

hiddentao··on RQ – A small JavaScript library for managing asychronicity
That's true, but given the gradual shift to ES6 features over time you're more likely to end up using something like Bluebird (e.g. to complement your generators) and so having another library to then handle asynchronicity (and that too with callbacks) would be redundant.

I'm looking for remote freelance work, starting as soon as possible. I work through my UK-registered Ltd company, which greatly simplifies any tax and payment issues.

I've worked extensively with Javascript for a few years now, including Node.js, Backbone, Angular, Ember and other front-end libraries. I've also worked with newer HTML5 technology such as Web workers and Generators. I've published NPM and Bower modules and have blogged about using Docker, Ansible and Jenkins.

I always to document my code well and architect easily testable and maintainable solutions.

hiddentao··on My Day Interviewing for the Service Economy Startup from Hell
Hahaha :)
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
I tried it with FF 33.0 (on OS X) and couldn't reproduce the issue you're seeing. However the font is a Google Font that's downloaded on-the-fly from their server - I am now hosting the font on my server so hopefully that will fix the issue for you.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
I have now added form field highlighting so now you can see which field is causing the problem.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
For now it's simply running within a Docker container on a Digital Ocean droplet (the 512 MB RAM one).
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
I agree with all of your points, and indeed Github authentication is optional for the jobs posted on the site. I admit I did initially have it turned on by default (because I really liked the feature) but now it's off by default given the general feedback I've received. And I'm glad to see that companies who do care about it are using it when posting their ads.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
You're welcome :) It's something I've always wanted to see too.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
That's true, I'm not even sure if there are many such remote systems programmings jobs out there waiting to be advertised. In any case I'm open to adding that in as a category if the demand for it goes up.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
Jobs which are "under review" are now shown as such on the site.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
Sorry, that should also be fixed now. Thanks for all the feedback (bugs and otherwise).
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
Yep, I'm going to email them about that. That's not what this job board is about.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
Sorry, that should be fixed now.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
I thought about that - whether to use icons or text - in the end I decided that with shorter text, at least for the initial release.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
Sorry about that, should be ok now.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
Nearly every job I've applied for recently has asked for my github id - at least for web development it seems almost mandatory.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
Hi, it's probably an incomplete company URL (need the http:// part) and other such things. One immediate improvement I intend to add on is form field highlighting - so it will show you which fields are yet to be filled in correctly.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
I've worked at fixing that, and it should be ok now.
hiddentao··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
Agreed, I need to email them about that.
