hidden80··on ai;dr
I respect Oxide a lot. And here, too, with their non adoption of the marketing term (AI) for LLMs, ML.
hidden80··on Discord just killed anonymity
This. We've gotten really bad at headline bangin.
hidden80··on Bitchat for Gaza – messaging without internet
Like Briar?
hidden80··on Hardware Token Encryption
Ran into these guys with this cute way of encrypting data. It basically uses a steel bar with random notches machined onto them as the key.
hidden80··on How we handle Terraform downstream dependencies without additional frameworks
I'd love this on-prem.
hidden80··on Training myself to run farther with Strava's API and an IoT dog feeder of M&Ms
Race pace is tougher than training pace, too, though. I can run a comfortable few miles, but racing those same miles will cause me soreness the next few days.
hidden80··on Polyinstantiation in DBMS
I have great interest in this as a way to solve security compartmentalization at scale without excessive administrative overhead.
hidden80··on How did the X-Men game for Sega Genesis have its state survive a console reset?
The Sega Genesis system had a rather interesting game. X-Men (1993) was based on the popular cartoon version of the comic book series. But it had what was still one of the most unique (and unintuitive) mechanisms I've ever heard of...

hidden80··on Networking in the Cloud
Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC) is an open-source network operating system (NOS) based on Linux that runs on switches from multiple vendors and ASICs. SONiC offers a full suite of network functionality, like BGP and RDMA, that has been production-hardened in the data centers of some of the largest cloud service providers. It offers teams the flexibility to create the network solutions they need while leveraging the collective strength of a large ecosystem and community.

hidden80··on The end of Reddit? Why the blackout is still going – and what happens next
Update (Wednesday, June 14): we've updated this article with news about a leaked memo from Reddit's CEO, which could prolong the blackout.
hidden80··on The Hedge
Russ White offers one of the best podcasts covering network engineering and security.
hidden80··on Forums are dead, long live forums
Back before social media, we had discussion forums. No shit. One of my faves was XKCD's (RIP). In searching for Giant Robot's forums (another old fave), I discovered Giant in the Playground. It looks quite buzzin. The topics are pretty narrow, but looks like a good time.

hidden80··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Reddit
It's really up to your interests, but I'll say /news/ because that's what I used Reddit for mostly. Here's a handy list: https://wiki.bibanon.org/4chan_Boards
hidden80··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Reddit
4chan? It doesn't touch the scale and breadth of Reddit and I was always a little uncomfortable the handful of times I visited. Maybe because of no-rules /b/ but there are definitely some wholesome boards out there.

hidden80··on Killer whales wreck boat in latest attack off Spain
I think so. You just reminded me that orcas are dolphins, but I'm more curious about the potentially devastating effect of a blue whale exhibiting this sort of "aggression".
hidden80··on Killer whales wreck boat in latest attack off Spain
What's communication like between orcas and dolphins, and even... whales? Could this behavior be learned by, say, blue whales?
hidden80··on NPR quits Twitter after being labeled as 'state-affiliated media'
It's so wild witnessing the degradation of Twitter.
hidden80··on EVE Online player uses obscure rule to pull off biggest heist in game history
Hey, if you need some pointers on WH life, I'd be happy to help. I'm a founder and former CEO of Lazerhawks, Hidden Fremen :)
