Sometimes they go hand in hand, like the importation of vast numbers of low skilled workers as eventual citizens, displacing native low skilled workers. and "dissolving the people and electing another" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_L%C3%B6sung forgive my paraphrasing of the German I don't know). See all the crowing about how whites will soon become a minority in the US.
Sometimes it's purely economic, like US citizens and permanent residents being forced to train their H-1B indentured servant replacements.
(Then we could e.g. get to the more complicated things like why manufacturing has become so expensive here, lots of that is ideology and the like, but the above serves to illustrate my point.)
Although you would think more would realize by now "The Race Card is Maxed Out": http://www.cc.com/video-clips/m0pvy5/the-daily-show-with-jon...
An opinion that as far as I can tell, especially based on deeds, is shared by most of the GOPe(stablishment).
To shift the domain to things like hierarchy, equality, materialism, class, and idealism is Not Even Wrong, especially since you're not denying my side's take is actually, you know, wrong. Or that your side's issues don't directly flow from what I claim is your side's take on human nature.
E.g. we don't believe in "equality" as the Left defines it because we don't believe such a thing exists. We on the Alt Right are even moving past the concept of equality before the law based on this (!).
But some of what you say in it is ludicrous on its face:
I can go to a public restroom without fear of physical assault.
Really? You must live some place special where no crime occurs in such venues.
I can apply for a job without having my application thrown out on account of my name.
But your race, sex or sexual orientation? Haven't you noticed you're at a disadvantage here more and more? I mean, this was the theme of an episode of Archie Bunker which aired in the 1970s, the iconic scene was "Meathead" slamming a door so hard it broke the glass in it, very memorable.
Moving on:
On the other hand, if you claim special rights by virtue of skin color, gender, or religion
You're claiming a full on assault is "[t]he loss of a privileged position"; I guess at best we'll just have to agree to disagree, since it appears that simply asking for equal rights in the identity politics game, heck, even being allowed to play it, is beyond the pale for you, puts me in the basket of deplorables. But correct me if I'm wrong about that summation of your position.
Seriously, the "Right" and "Left" are abstractions for two general philosophies about human nature, the Right believing that human nature is basically fixed, or as a favorite history teacher put it, "Original Sin is an empirical observation!", and the Left believes in the perfectibility of man. And historically, at least since the French Revolution which created the modern versions of these two, has gotten downright murderously violent when their attempts to "perfect" men failed, as we on the right believe is inevitable.
So you're asking me to drop a perfectly usable and useful abstraction that helps to make more sense of the world because of the danger I'll be disappointing by any particular politician. Seeing that my first great disappointment was Nixon in his second term, I've got to tell you I've got other tools for that, like "best is the enemy of good enough", "the lessor of two evils", and so on. And you shouldn't assume I didn't look at the actual policies both put forward, and could make a choice on those alone.
And how to you characterize a rhetorical policy against political correctness? Or an attack on a common enemy like the MSM that's more carried out by rhetoric than actions?
Or the simple fact that many if not most people simply cannot be reached by dialectical arguments, it's rhetoric or nothing (or I'm told, see Aristotle's book on the subject, this is said to be a good translation: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0195064879/ ).
As for your point "'us' as a colour of skin", the best reply is the one attributed to Trotsky, "You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you". I'd prefer to be left alone to code up neat stuff, but that's not an option today in the US.
The other notable thing I've been told is that this is a unique in the US phenomena, which suggests a whole lot.
I don't play the Node.js game, but I'll see about polishing my 2 decades rusty Javascript web page experiences and see if I can't make this into a simple web page which I can keep a tab always loaded with, I pretty much only use Unicode characters for web comments and the like. Although if this makes it a lot easier ... and I suppose I should see if Emacs has such a feature.
Anyway, thanks!
And whites, especially male and/or heterosexuals, aren't "being hurt" by the Left's campaign against them, that says we're uniquely guilty, uniquely unable to absolve ourselves of this guilt, or as Hillary put it, "irredeemable"?
Just what is the Left's end game for us? Should we take a clue from its crowing about how soon we'll be a minority in the US?
Any particular reason we shouldn't join the game of identity politics that every other group is playing? Any particular reason we must commit suicide (which is by no means an entirely figurative thing in the US)?
The ADL's complaint about Bannon is thin gruel: http://www.adl.org/sp/stephen-bannon-backgrounder/bannon-bac...
It boils down to their claim the Alt Right is anti-Semitic, when that's only the small portion of it that's the Alt White vs. the vastly larger Alt West and even larger Alt Lite which isn't there yet, plus our rule that we don't shoot at people who are shooting in the right direction (which, come to think of it, has not as of late characterized the Alt White), Breitbart.com is not an entirely polite or Leftist publication, "Bannon is a Critic of the Republican Establishment and the Left." (a truly devastating charge, how dare he!), "Bannon has Held a Number of Positions in his Career." (the gravamen of that is they weren't on the Left), and they bury the lede by ending with "We Are Not Aware of Any Anti-Semitic Statements From Bannon." (even they are not willing to take his ex-wife's claims from their 2007 divorce as credible).
Seriously, the establishment, remarkably excluding the GOPe, has gone all in on smearing the next Republican Karl Rove figure with abject lies even the ADL can't defend face-to-face, and our response is "We Don't Care". As I've commented here before, that the GOPe is included in the "we" should and I suspect does terrify the Left, they're rapidly losing one of their potent weapons short of lawfare.
Yow, I did not know that, but it explains a lot.
Apple's corporate culture has a variety of things that I would find hard to imagine not suppressing their ability to hire and retain the best; I'm sure others have a better idea than I, but the #1 thing staring us in the face is that software is not respected.
Believing, really believing that the future doesn’t have space for you, your loved ones, and your way of life — believing that you are on the verge of extinction — is so scary that people will fight to the death for it.
That and much else he says was reified by Hillary's September speech declaring a quarter of the nation to be irredeemable. Hard to state it more plainly that "the future doesn’t have space for you, your loved ones, and your way of life"....
ADDED: see also the bottomless well of disdain for the people of "flyover country"....
On the other hand, timeline prognostication is notoriously difficult, e.g. when I got seriously into survivalism in the mid-80s the leading gurus who weren't nuclear war oriented had been predicting an irrecoverable economic collapse since some time in the '70s (and having lived through that period such predictions were not in the least crazy, although perhaps unfounded in that that sort of thing has happened many times before and "irrecoverable" (my characterization) isn't how they play out).
ADDED later, to reply to tendies123 since this topic has been killed stone cold dead by I assume the moderators:
You're attacking a strawman, white nationalists, to the extent I've observed them, do not define themselves in such an indeed "utterly asinine" way. You're also gravely mistaken about the lethallity of nuclear war, even a full out one during the Cold War would have "only" knocked the US back to roughly the Civil War era.
And, so, what do you propose to do with the "pointless people", you do realize you're completely validating the article's hypothesis?
The answer is simple. It's because they don't want to, and they don't have to.
Errr, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these personal computers the only platform one can, and from a minute with Google, contractually the only platform one is allowed to develop software for their iOS systems?
Elsewhere in another current discussion, it was mentioned, in the context of declining iOS quality, that software is a third class citizen at Apple (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13050844). Which I'll add it typical of hardware companies.
The upshot is that even though regularly updating desktop Macs should not be that difficult, objectively speaking, it tends not to happen in part because it’s not anyone’s job to make it happen. The functional organization values collaboration on top corporate priorities above all else, and that means basically everything comes ahead of desktop Macs....
But it does raise the question of whether persisting with functional organization is really compatible with the company’s growth aspirations.
Or I say existence, since their fancy hardware requires really serious software, and a healthy 3rd party ecosystem, and we've seen over the decades a number of companies go out of business because they essentially lost their ability to write software that works.
That Apple's functional structure, at least according to this article, means there's no people high enough in the corporate structure to make sure of this, well....
What are the specific counter-reactions you see that limit this as an ongoing/regularly exercised pattern?
Now, there is some distance from "radical libertarian think tanks" and the rest, but, for example, can you find any serious distance between any 4 of these groups on immigration? Use of marijuana? And libertarians are a relatively small, and in the US, a disintegrating group.
And if I recall correctly, that this is a regular process. Which has led us to this rather extreme point, historically near the extreme for the US.
But doesn't this Presidential election at least suggest that enough people got unhappy about the very "fixed" (more like steadily declining) economic "resource" known as the working class job to swing the election to Trump?
All the raw statistics, from labor force participation to suicide rate changes, suggest your point isn't correct, except in a theoretical sense, or "any practical sense" except in the very long term.
Perhaps it's a bad thing they started with books, where counterfeits certainly exist, but aren't quite at the same level of problem, shouldn't be any problem when they were sourcing from that big wholesaler of boos, and ... how long did it take them to enter the used book market with third parties? And, again, that was a well developed market before they entered....
And if it's sold by Amazon itself, hope it's either in one of the categories where they don't commingle, like food, or that you luck out. I'd hope anything you ingest or put on your skin like this would be in a "No Commingling!" category....
I've read, without adequate if any sourcing, that this is a pattern that's at least centuries old, specifically, building things to the required specs, then backing off on quality until the buyer complains....
If so, it's interesting it survived the harshest decades of Communism and the attempts to do away with the old ways, then again, it could well be aligned with the incentives that were force back then. Although I'd hate to be issued a weapon or ammo that was from a factory running along those quality lines. Although back when we were allowed to buy ammo from the PRC, that sort of thing was not apparent from what I remember, but I'm not sure I would have noticed since I was never in the market for those particularly types.
When I've peeked in on e.g. the lisp subforum, it looked to be quite good, although that was a while ago, too frustrating to contemplate engaging without being able to be part of the conversation (which, I again emphasize, is an entirely legitimate method to avoid a variety of problems).
