heythere22··on Germany's Solar Boom Eases Power Costs as Gas Price Jumps
I call BS on that. The average price per kWh is just some cents more expensive than before COVID. See e.g. https://strom-report.com/strompreisentwicklung/ or https://www.verivox.de/strom/strompreisentwicklung/

If you are paying a lot more, consider changing the provider.

What's the deal with disk quotas? Saw that in the OT as well. Why would you measure folder size seperately for each and every user? Would it not be a lot easier to just use the disk space of a folder regardless of whomever the file belongs to?

There is an inverter somewhere that converts the battery voltage to whatever you need to power stuff. 110v AC, 220v AV, 240v AC

The page says "14-day Free trial. No Credit Card Required." but there is no mention of any pricing page. What happens once the trial is over? Does the boy just stop sending messages?
heythere22··on Someone has been attempting to DDoS us for weeks and we do nothing
Your correct. 1 billion requests per month is 380 requests per second on average which is not that high

heythere22··on Solar panels reduced my electric bill in 2022
> Are they insured?

You are better off if you add them to your already existing coverage for your roof. So probably yes.

> Do they get damaged?

You typically don't expect trees to fall onto your solar panels. So where should any damage come from?

heythere22··on Potential Issues of Using a USB Powerbank as a UPS (2021)
Dave from EEVBlog had the same issue. His mains power battery does not do 0ms switching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JT8M8v_zNg

Semms like, if you want the features of an UPS, you should get a UPS.

heythere22··on Rethink-app: DNS over HTTPS, firewall, and connection tracker for Android
Have been using it for a while now. The best feature is the ability to block apps from accessing the Internet altogether. With the added bonus of a bit of adblocking. The only downside, IPv6 is not supported. The Internet connection is IPv4 only using the app.

heythere22··on Self-obfuscating value objects in PHP
> This subtle nuance (value equivalency versus object equivalency) can cause problems, particularly if variables are passed by reference to any other functions in your codebase.

Value objects may be great for leveraging the type system to help you write better code by e.g. having only one place for validation. But why should you pass scalar variables by reference? That makes it really hard to reason about what functions and methods do.

heythere22··on Porting Rust's Std to Rustix
Just a quick reminder, using syscalls without libc is something that will cause trouble with OpenBSD. From [1]: "The eventual goal would be to disallow system calls from anywhere but the region mapped for libc"

heythere22··on Malware Could Use SSD Over-Provisioning to Bypass Security Measures
Am I reading this correctly: * 1st: Adjust the overprovisioning area and hope that the filesystem does not budge, * 2nd: run the malware as it is now accessible and * 3rd: change the overprovisioning again to hide the malware again?

Or is the malware executing from non-partitioned disk space?

heythere22··on HTTP Message Signatures
What do you gain by signing the response headers? Ctrl+F for "body" yielded only 2 results. Wouldn't signing the response body be a bit more useful or am I missing something?

As far as I understand it, the GPS time will stop for 1 second. This means that between ex. 12:00:00 and 12:00:00' there is a wall clock difference of 1 second.

The first issue has already been found: https://twitter.com/uputronics/status/1418990637299519493

heythere22··on The worst volume control UI in the world (2017)
