I just played 2 games on wordfeud and wow it is both amazing and sad how little I need to be satisfied and how hard it is to find such an app. Anyways, I uninstalled scrabble and am invested in this one.
heyoni··on Show HN: Peanut Butter Spinner
Do you have a source for this? If true, what a stupid way to make food.
heyoni··on Scrabble, Anonymous
It’s $6 now. And I’m happy to pay it. The official scrabble app is a horrible testament to psychotic UI’s being passed off as “normal”. I swear to god, it’s like living in a clockwork orange. I just want to play the game but there are chests and gemstones and adds you can watch and unlocks mid game and on and on…
heyoni··on Did GitHub Copilot increase my productivity?
Especially when renaming variables that are “immune” to normal refactoring. Copilot handles that pretty well and I don’t have to spend all that focus on such a menial task.

The problem is no sword fights or basketball courts :/ it also feels strange to randomly do something like a few pushups at the office whereas at home I do it all the time.

In my experience, the chairs and how they’re built aren’t what adds to the price tag; the fact that an insurance company is paying is what is.

My daughter literally just got approved for a talking device that would otherwise cost us $4000. It’s a Samsung tablet with $300 software and an attached speaker and comes with some sort of repair agreement. I can buy and break 20 iPads for that price…and we did end up buying one with the software on its own.

If you want to know who’s causing waste, look to the ones who stand to benefit from it.

heyoni··on Decline in heart failure deaths has been undone, led by people under 45
That paper says nothing about fluvoxamine's effect on outpatients and doesn't compare its efficacy in terms of viral load to things known to directly impact it such as antivirals and vaccines. I'm also not 100% sure how to read those graphs to be honest but at one point being vaccinated imbued you with 99.99% chance of infection without hospitalization.

I'm not saying fluvoxamine is bad or anything. By all means use it if you lack access to the vaccine. The FDA isn't dictating what Brazil can do. The point of the vaccine was to get us to a place where we can go back to our normal lives while avoiding the usual catastrophic circumstances that accompany a pandemic.

heyoni··on Apple users are being locked out of their Apple IDs with no explanation
I've seen a few posts by users claiming to use randomly generated unique passwords. If that's true then it could be a leak from apple. On the other hand it could also be that it's not and the security response team is catching users not on that leaked list due to unrefined heuristics.

On the third hand it is an apple leak, they've been given a sample list by whoever is ransoming them so they've enacted overly strict heuristics that apply to everyone.

heyoni··on Janky Apple ID Security
Yea that’s what I figured. The one that pulls data from the web with every click. It just bugs me when a view will sometimes render absolutely nothing, sometimes while checking subscriptions, other times in the middle of a flow like adding hardware keys. UI’s that fail to produce feedback need to disappear.

Except isn’t the settings pane on Mac OS using react or something? I know it feels different and I kind of hate it.
heyoni··on Apple users are being locked out of their Apple IDs with no explanation
I wonder if there’s a new leak out there with actually recent passwords we just haven’t heard of yet. If Apple got their hands on it and confirmed a significant number of passwords were active then taking drastic measures is their only option.

Sometimes HomeKit will pick the lowest power device to be the hub causing everything to stop working. The only fix is to find out which device that is and power cycle it.

People keep saying that about more effective drugs but treating viruses is incredibly hard, and non-specific. Which drugs are you talking about? Ivermectin, mefloquine?

Amphetamine usage steadily increased over decades while heart failure rates were decreasing. The article itself suggests that maybe opioid overdoses are being marked as heart failure rather than cardiac arrest which would make way more sense considering how relatively rare amphetamine overdoses are.
