hexis··on Decision Fatigue
The blessing and curse of this website is when I make a low effort complaint I get a very reasonable and useful response, which my complaint did not deserve. Aside from any other details, thanks for that csours.

All that said, I still find this to be the kind of thing that probably feels very tight and compelling if you already believe it (and perhaps if you already know what "PREE" stands for), but for someone on the outside (like me) it just seems like a bunch of statements with broad mood affiliation and then the blog post ends.

hexis··on Decision Fatigue
I’ve enjoyed a lot of what this author has written in the past but honestly I can’t even understand half of this blog post.
hexis··on What to blog about
My website is not about whatever I learned today, it's about me. As it happens, what I learned today is a thing about me, so it can end up on my website. But, if you're coming to my personal website to see exclusively brand new information, never before published, then I'm sorry but I'm a person much like most other folks and my experiences overlap with them quite a lot. My website will be full of ordinary, shared experiences and facts, with the occasional novelty thrown in, much like myself.

I'd hate to only show the parts of myself that are perfectly unique to the world, I think that'd be very lonely.

hexis··on Apple’s new App Store tax on ads is a direct shot at Meta
System76 seems terrific. But, overall, Apple is alone is having the market power and deep integration between software, hardware, and services to radiate abuse. So, pretty much every other company has the potential to be better.
hexis··on Ask HN: What brand of laptop do you use?
Galago pro, with the current pop os, with some MacBook pro usage on the side. https://tech-docs.system76.com/models/galp5/README.html
hexis··on Apple’s new App Store tax on ads is a direct shot at Meta
It’s long past time to abandon Apple products. I’m as guilty as anyone, typing this out on an iPad. But I’m also using a system76 laptop in parallel to my MacBook Pro and slowly moving more of my computer time to it.

The truth about Apple, and probably any other company that managed to get in its amazing situation, is that they want the whole pie. They’ll always burn partners, customers, and rivals to slowly (or quickly) boil the frog and consume the whole pie. It’s been clear for a long time, but their devices are so great that we’re all in denial. They’re a bad actor, we have to move forward and figure out the next steps for ourselves.

hexis··on Apple to withhold its latest employee perks from unionized store
This is what happens with a union. They voted for a floor and it came with a ceiling. Nobody experienced with unions should be at all surprised, but often folks who vote to unionize are not actually experienced with being in a union.

This is not at all to say that this is worse, it may be better at least for some people. But this is completely standard with unionization, there's nothing especially sinister here.

nb, I do not like Apple and don't consider this a defense of their business.

hexis··on Where Online Hate Speech Can Bring the Police to Your Door
"“All of our opinions are open to criticism,” Roberts said in remarks to judges and lawyers. “In fact, our members do a great job of criticizing some opinions from time to time. But simply because people disagree with an opinion is not a basis for criticizing the legitimacy of the court.”"

Were you thinking of a different quote from your source? This quote, which seemed closest to your intent, does not at all say what you were suggesting.

hexis··on Shirky.com is gone
I hope you're right! The lack of an update on that post, combined with the FAQ saying the opposite thing, makes it even harder for me to know what their policy is. Respecting robots.txt is a civilized thing to do and I hope they do it.

hexis··on Tumblr has added more strict tag filtering for their iOS app
I don't know much about the company, but don't they run Wordpress.com? I think I've seen some wild stuff on subdomains there, do they do similar filtering on ios for those sites?

hexis··on Why Does Infrastructure Cost So Much?
When I put your values into this calculator (https://tax-office.traviscountytx.gov/properties/property-ta...), I found that the house in Rollingwood would have about 2K in City of Rollingwood taxes (just as you said), but the house in Austin would only have about 4K in City of Austin taxes, not 20-30K. All other property taxes were the same between the two properties. The overall property tax burden in Austin (adding county, school, etc taxes) for a million dollar house would be 20,298, while in Rollingwood (with the same additional tax categories), it would be 18,388. Certainly the taxes in Rollingwood are lower, but with hardly as big of a gap as you wrote. How did you get your numbers?
