hexasquid··on Effect 4.0
"typed error handling, structured concurrency, resource safety, and observability, all from one composable core"
hexasquid··on The JavaScript Midlife Crisis
I'm interested to know why tsc (pre-go) would give me near-instant LSP diagnostics on a large typescript project, and rust-analyzer takes ages to produce diagnostics in a small rust project.
hexasquid··on Attention is all you have
It all went wrong when writing was introduced, the lazy kids became addicted to letting the technology take place of their natural human memory.
hexasquid··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
The AI is getting bad morals from listening to that dreadful rock and roll
hexasquid··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
Maybe .unwrap()
hexasquid··on Kobo can run apps now
This got me thinking about what "I made this" means, when we're building on top of zillions of abstractions "made" by others.

I don't make the binaries. The compiler does. I just feed in specification called source code.

hexasquid··on AI usage patterns in software teams
I'd be interested to overlay, I don't know, customer satisfaction or anything that can show the follow-on effect of all this output. Linear won't have that information.

My guess is some will jump up (where the team has managed to make themselves move effective and responsive) and many will plummet (doesn't need explaining).

Then there might be something to look at.

hexasquid··on Who owns the code?
// Educational service, not legal advice.

X, not Y

hexasquid··on AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read)
Good instinct. Fair challenge. This corrects my framing. It makes your point sharp. This is a significant finding. Positively confirmed. That settles it, and it flips the picture. Honest verdict - this is not small. Let me wire it in.
hexasquid··on I Remain a Skeptic
"Well, actually, vim doesn't make you faster"
hexasquid··on LLMs reward expertise
One I got "That settles it, and it flips the picture"

well not very settled then is it

hexasquid··on AI migrated legacy COBOL programs to Java, bugs included
To IBM

As specified, please find 99997 correct parts and the 3 defects (do not use)

hexasquid··on Why the future is local app
I think some people who grew up with web apps didn't know local native apps preceded them.
hexasquid··on Claude: Elevated errors across all models – Resolved
Let me verify one thing.

Let me read this rather than answer from memory.

Let me check instead of handwaving the details.

Let me confirm rather than blindly trusting.

Let me ground it in evidence rather than guess.

Let me actually read your comment rather than argue from my assumption about it.

hexasquid··on Terence Tao's ChatGPT conversation about the Jacobian Conjecture counterexample
Ah, t is a formal variable, a symbol, like the letter t.

Not like a drink with jam and bread.

hexasquid··on Hologram Works. Sponsor What Comes Next
The things people do to not use web technologies.
hexasquid··on My two year old taught me constraint solving
Incredible. My two-year-old forgets to include Lambek when lecturing on Curry-Howard-Lambek correspondence. Kids.
hexasquid··on Claude Code uses Bun written in Rust now
I presume haskell applications similar to claude code are well represented in the training data.
hexasquid··on The LLM Critics Are Right. I Use LLMs Anyway
The LLMs are better at enforcing their boundaries than developers. Run out of tokens? That's it. No more code. It doesn't care how much the company needs this for the customer call tomorrow.
hexasquid··on We don't use AI in any of our design or production processes
How did hate come in - did you assume it?
hexasquid··on We don't use AI in any of our design or production processes
I imagine everyone has a point at which they feel a movement has pushed its rhetoric just that bit too far. When one takes a lofty and high-minded position, one can find oneself exposed to ridicule.

In case it helps the authentic human connection: I too wrote this with my human hands and did not use AI.

hexasquid··on We don't use AI in any of our design or production processes
If it is that bad then I sincerely apologise.
hexasquid··on We don't use AI in any of our design or production processes
I shall call it artist slop.
hexasquid··on We don't use AI in any of our design or production processes
It's the natural vinyl warmth
hexasquid··on We don't use AI in any of our design or production processes
Artists: No cold-hearted machine can ever replicate the ingenuity, the innate creativity and passionate soul of the artiste.

Later: The villain cat has the catchphrases 'Purrrfect' and 'You must be kitten me'. The snake character makes lotsss of sss noissesss.

hexasquid··on How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing
I googled that word and Anthropic.com was the first hit. Head -> desk
hexasquid··on Why Vanilla JavaScript
> NO, YOU CANNOT JUST USE GLOBAL STATE. USE THIRD-PARTY LIBRARY WITH FANCY FUNCTIONAL DESIGN.

window.i = 0; // initialize all my for loops in one go!

hexasquid··on Circular Obstacle Pathfinding (2017)
red blob games is a treasure
hexasquid··on Acronym Fatigue Series Introduction: why I'm wary of acronyms
My screen reader says "eleven why" for a11y. I hope that's fine with everyone
hexasquid··on Does code cleanliness affect coding agents? A controlled minimal-pair study
It has taken LLMs to encourage companies to prioritise a clean codebase, tickets with unambiguous context and examples of what is right and wrong when onboarding new team members.

If only we cared so much for junior developers.
