I was able to bring my Stata license with me from graduate school, but I wasn't allowed to install Stata on my work computer. Plus, it was already 5+ years old and I wasn't going to get product updates.
I saw Ellen Harvey's Green Map mosaic of San Francisco and wanted to generate something like that algorithmically. The visually striking part is that each color of tile comes from a different shape distribution. This is about reproducing those shape families (and some new ones) over additional geography, and letting the user select shape families for different land forms.
