hemaljshah··on You Are Not Late
Great motivational read for budding or aspiring entrepreneurs. The one point I'd add to the article is to start viewing the world as a solver because we have more tools to fix and build better solutions than we did 30 years ago.
hemaljshah··on Show HN: Mailflo – Customer support right from Gmail
This is a fantastic tool for early stage start ups and companies who don't want to invest in expensive and unnecessary support tools in the bootstrap phase.

It would be great to add some aggregation or reporting on the side so you can understand your queue and how it's growing as well as provide tags or keywords to search on. Keep up the awesome work!

hemaljshah··on Ask HN: What Books Are You Reading?
Just finished "Contagious: Why Things Catch On" which is great for understanding the triggers you can build into your product to build an inbound gravitational pull for potential and current customers.

Now I'm about to tackle "Inspired: How To Create Products Customers Love"

hemaljshah··on Ask HN: With no CS degree, what was most frustrating about learning how to code?
The most frustrating thing to code IMO is going through the tutorials, accomplishing them and then saying "now what?" It's easy to follow along things like CodeAcademy or LearnRails or any other site that teaches you the basics of getting started, but after that, where do you go? You no longer have the structure of a classroom that gives you the next project where you can build or challenge your skills...while not setting you up to fail and become discouraged.

I highly recommend finding a project you're actually passionate to work on after you are done with your tutorials. If you're passionate about it, you're going to push through the frustrating parts that feel like you're not prepared or don't have the experience.

Use co-workers, forums, communities like StackOverflow and use them aggressively. Become rigorous at searching Google to find the answers first and give it a few tries, but don't be ashamed when you hit the wall. For me, the only way things will stick is by practicing them and trying to take them to the next level!

hemaljshah··on Facebook Releases Slingshot For Self-Destructing Selfies
Haven't we already seen this movie with Facebook Poke? We saw how that ended...
hemaljshah··on What Instacart taught us
This is the classic case of turning from wantrepreneur into entrepreneur. People get scared and frightened over how 'crowded' markets are based on how many people claim they are moving into the space or are thinking about doing 'x' but fail to realize how few people actually do something about it.

Every entrepreneur should take one valuable lesson from this: execution is everything.

hemaljshah··on Kingston and PNY using cheaper components after good reviews
I hate hearing about these stories from manufactures, it totally kills their rep for me to ever trust them again. Why do companies go against just building solid products, even if it costs a little more money. It's exactly how Apple has gotten away with charging premium dollars for similar hardware - build quality always wins.
hemaljshah··on John McAfee releases secure anti-surveillance messaging app ‘Chadder’
If that's how they designed the website, I'm a little scared to download the app.

Also, no iOS?

hemaljshah··on Putting the Chat into Snapchat
Really cool design, I love the dragging of the bubble to choose a camera.

This is starting to move away from the original value prop of Snapchat. If you can save chat bits, what's the difference in using any messaging service. Also, who usually is taking selfies or is using text message to talk to someone when they want to video chat? During most hours when you're on the go, you send asynchronous media since it's easier to create and digest that content from both parties. This feature won't add to the success that they've seen from their core product, just cause a nice little bump in traffic - not a game changer.

hemaljshah··on A Motion-Sensing Keyboard
Conceptually this is a pretty cool idea! I easily see the applications around web browsing or reading a doc, but a few practical problems stand in the way.

Navigation and clicking with the keyboard will be a huge problem. How could I move the mouse pad and simultaneously click? The demo video uses gaming, but most games still require use of both clicking on keys and a mouse click. If I tried to hold down a key on the keyboard, but wanted to click at the same time...do I have one finger move in mid air above some random part of the keyboard?

Hopefully there's continued refinement though...I'm surprised there hasn't been much thought about replacing extra keys with more customized multi-touch gestures.

hemaljshah··on Apple CarPlay
This feels like a use case to get rid of any of the iPad mini screens so they can come in with a bigger iPhone. The UI looks really boring and how would this connect with different versions of the iPhone?

Definitely not onboard with providing drivers another distraction in the car.

hemaljshah··on 7 ways to boost your business just by asking
The most valuable part about this article is understanding what you're asking about. Being sure that you truly understand your customer is invaluable. You need to understand everything from WHY are they trying to solve a problem, HOW much is this problem worth to them, WHO is involved in solving it and WHAT would it take to get a solution in place.

Place yourself on their team. Act as if you sit inside their four walls and it's your problem to solve. Care more for making the person you work with successful rather than about pushing a product on to them.
