hellosmithy··on John Lewis fined over spam emails
If it were a true opt-in without a pre-checked input as suggested then it becomes a moot point surely.
hellosmithy··on Ask HN: I actually need a job now
My experience as a developer in London right now is that there is a huge shortage of talented developers, compared to demand. You shouldn't have had trouble finding a well-paid job, especially if you have experience with a front-end framework like Angular.
hellosmithy··on Backbone.js 1.1 is out

hellosmithy··on How to Name your Company
What? Airbnb are re-branding to Air? That's a terrible idea.
hellosmithy··on Lessons Learned Getting Other People to Sell My Ebook
Interesting write-up. I wonder if the OP would bother with listing on Amazon next time?
hellosmithy··on The story behind XCOM: Enemy Unknown
The original Microprose game was awesome. The turn-based strategy version of this remake is more interesting to me than the FPS for sure. There are some video trailers here: http://www.xcom.com/enemyunknown/videos
hellosmithy··on If you’re a mobile developer, this is the one post you need to read today
Agreed the title is too link-baity for my liking too. I should have probably edited that to something more appropriate before posting.
hellosmithy··on If you’re a mobile developer, this is the one post you need to read today
This looks pretty awesome, especially given the freemium option for initial testing.
hellosmithy··on Show HN: Silly weekend project sends physical postcards using Sincerely & Stripe
Meme: An image, video, etc. that is passed electronically from one Internet user to another.

Seems pretty appropriate in this case.

It looks like a fun idea. How do the postcards look in printed form? I imagine quality is not great?

hellosmithy··on Touch Gestures for Application Design
Pretty detailed walk-through of touch gestures and how we can use them in our applications.
hellosmithy··on Ask HN: Are Domain Names Worth Anything Anymore?
Are you talking about value to your business or value in terms of reselling domains?
hellosmithy··on Ask HN: Is there a SAAS app to do a questions splash page like timedoctor.com
Are you just wanting to analyse the user journeys? If so it sounds like something you could achieve with Google Analytics without having to pay for SAAS.
hellosmithy··on Ask HN: Is there a SAAS app to do a questions splash page like timedoctor.com
Why would you need a SAAS app to do this?
hellosmithy··on Anvil - a Mac app for Pow
Doesn't work for me on Macbook Air with Ctrl + Click
hellosmithy··on Anvil - a Mac app for Pow
Nice little app. Would be handy to be able to edit the generated .dev URL to be different from the folder.
hellosmithy··on What Sushi And Programming Have In Common
Agreed. Although the same could be said for any skill worth mastering.
hellosmithy··on Facebook the Devourer
Metcalfe's law. This is really pretty valuable though. Not many people are likely to hang around on an empty social network no matter how great the UI. Personally I'm pretty fed up with Facebook, but living abroad it is still quite simply the easiest way for me to stay in touch with a lot of my friends.
hellosmithy··on Never Give Your Information To 10 Minute Old Startups
Wow. That's taking the idea of an MVP a little too far. Just goes to show worth doing a little research before handing over any real information to a new service like this.
hellosmithy··on Green Faces (or How to Hack Your Metabolism)
Yep - I've been following a similar diet (GAPS) to improve some health issues and found that the first few weeks were tough because of sugar/carb withdrawal symptoms but it improved a lot after that. I'd recommend the book Nourishing Traditions for anyone wanting to keep eating some carbs. It's based on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet which it's my aim to transition to eventually as it's a bit more relaxed about grains/pulses/dairy when prepared correctly.
