hellgas00··on Inside Epstein’s network: what 1.4M emails reveal
You were right the first time, the holier-than-thou sanctimony is a bit much, especially as it relates to these developments.

Nearly half the potentially responsive files still withheld (per reports of ~6M pages collected but only ~3.5M released, plus heavy redactions and privilege claims), and HN top commentary is about not rushing to judgement and conspiracy theories... maybe it's because the government is literally running an active cover up on a child abuse scandal that involves the billionaires, the elites, and threatens to take down entire governments.

hellgas00··on The '3.5% rule': How a small minority can change the world (2019)
Nothing says "instinctively distasteful caste systems" like the ongoing meat grinder in Gaza. Truly the pinnacle of humanity's natural drift toward equality.
hellgas00··on Canada slashes 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs to 6%
Ironically one of the biggest beneficiary will likely be Tesla. Before the 100% tarriffs were instated Tesla-Canada imported most of their vehicles from China's Shanghai gigafactory. After the Chinese EV tarriffs they began importing from Germany and some from the US.

They already have the footprint and sales depth to take advantage of the low tarriffs rate quickly.

hellgas00··on Poorest US workers hit hardest by slowing wage growth
They are not more likely to find themselves among the 40% of workers who's salaries are lagging inflation, they are more likely to be among the 60% who's salaries are outpacing inflation.

The FT is being disingenuous.

hellgas00··on Poorest US workers hit hardest by slowing wage growth
"people earning roughly less than $806 a week — slowed to an annual rate of 3.7 per cent in June, down from a peak of 7.5 per cent in late 2022"

With inflation dropping from 9.1% in June 2022 to 2.7% in June 2025, real wages for these low earners are now growing for the first time in years. The Financial Times failure to mention this context makes me question their motives.

hellgas00··on Spain proposes 100% tax on homes bought by non-EU residents
This is a very accurate take, to consider Canada a country when their own prime minister refers to it as a post nation state (ie. Internal economic zone) and nothing more says it all. I would suggest the reason for the high suicide rates seen in the west is connected to this transition.
hellgas00··on Israel, Hamas reach ceasefire deal to end 15 months of war in Gaza
[Reposting a comment from ChocolateGod that was flagged and made dead despite being a legitimate good faith question]

> Syria who finally overthrew their sadistic monster. Not saying Assad wasn't a sadistic monster, but do you really think an ISIS-related group running the state is going to be any better?

Christians are already being persecuted.

hellgas00··on Why Canada Should Join the EU
You last point is the most pertinent. Labour didn't win a majority because they offered compelling platform ideas, they won because the Cons failed to deliver on their platform and Reform UK exploited that failure to split the conservative vote.

Opinion polls already have Labour and Cons at an even tie with Reform UK doubling their overall popularity in just 6 months.

All this to say I wouldn't want to suggest that the trend towards nationalist politics ended with a Labour majority but rather that the Conservative Party wasn't sufficiently nationalist enough to entice public sentiments away from Reform UK

hellgas00··on India's food shortage filled American libraries
The CNN article references the Bengal famine of 1943, specifically prioritizing food delivery to military personnel during WW2. The Food for Peace Act of came into effect in 1954.
hellgas00··on The 1955 Le Mans disaster changed motorsport
On a per capita basis China emits more CO2 than Europeans.
hellgas00··on TikTok divestment law upheld by federal appeals court
It's easier to blame a loss on the lack of narrative controls than self reflect on the actions of the incumbent.
hellgas00··on Trump wins presidency for second time
There were a couple byelections within the last few months in historically stronghold ridings for the Liberal party that have not flipped in decades. One in Toronto which went to the Conservatives and one in Montreal which went to the Bloc Québécois. It's almost a certainty that the Liberals will not form a government next election, and polling suggests that they are trending below the seat count needed to be the official opposition.
hellgas00··on Brazil's X ban is sending lots of people to Bluesky
Alexandre de Moraes whims are now considered the "rules of the country", how quickly Brazil turned into a dictatorship.
hellgas00··on Brazil's X ban is sending lots of people to Bluesky
Your making the claim that all of the secret censorship decrees issues by Alexandre de Moraes are related to the protests after the election in 2023, they are not.
hellgas00··on NPR suspends veteran editor as it grapples with his public criticism
“For every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania, we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia, and you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin.” Chuck Schumer, 2016.
hellgas00··on Farmland practices are driving bird population decline across Europe (2023)
Can you elaborate if possible on the comment made about the EU Common Agricultural Policy's effects of promoting large scale intensive agriculture. Specifically what policy attributes support it.
hellgas00··on ISPs should not police online speech no matter how awful it is
Your analogy is poor, what you described contravene US laws. Your misunderstanding was seemingly addressed in the article. Tier 1 providers, in some regions, operate as quazi-monopolies. A more apt analogy; you dislike renters that openly promote their religious affiliation, but you also own all of the rental properties in the western United States. This leaves them with nowhere to setup shop for running foul of your delicate sensibilities as they relate to religious matters.
hellgas00··on Illegal raids contribute to death of newspaper co-owner
Thoughts on the discredited media smear that was Russia-gate and it's underlying "intel" that included accusations of pee tapes etc. I assume your include the news outlet peroginator Buzzfeed was a political black-ops organization that operated in bad faith.
hellgas00··on Illegal raids contribute to death of newspaper co-owner
This is a joke of a comment, expose journalism isn't extremist propaganda just because you disagree with their findings. You show signs of radicalist totalitarian thinking for wanting to ban journalist outlets. Thankfully the authors of the Constitution saw it fit to safe guard against tyrants like yourself with the 1st amendment.
hellgas00··on Illegal raids contribute to death of newspaper co-owner
They also happen to buy one of the largest political parties by voter intention in Germany, matching the CDU in some polling.
hellgas00··on Electronics are built with death dates. Let’s not keep them a secret
It is.. Civil engineers have the opportunity to design for quality in their specs and drawings. If they don't it means the client is getting a raw deal or the client optioned for a cheaper engineering solution.
hellgas00··on Cognitive Illiberalism and the Speech-Conduct Distinction
That was quick, flagged and dead in less than 20min.
hellgas00··on George Orwell’s 1940 Review of Mein Kampf
No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true.

NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE

hellgas00··on George Orwell’s 1940 Review of Mein Kampf
>Have you even heard of the Council for National Policy?

That's because the council on national policy has minimal influence on American foreign policy. The American nationalist element has minimal power outside of literally Donald Trump and a handfuls of people that have aligned themselves with him after witnessing his success in domestic american politics.

The power of the the Neoconservative/Neoliberal political hegemony in Washington dwarf the influence of any nationalist element because nationalist politics are not match of the interests of international finance and commerce. Simply put many more wealthy individuals benefit from a liberal world order vs the wealthy that benefit from a localized economy. No Empire that I know of has fought to minimize it's influence.

hellgas00··on George Orwell’s 1940 Review of Mein Kampf
Any group with unpalatable views to the general public don't want to have their views expressed in the open. There isn't some grand parallel to be had here. The meetings in Davos are never televised despite their influence on the masses. Recently the Washington Post Doxxed the LibsOfTikTok account creator, who's only crime was posting the views of socially liberal people on tiktok. Once your uncommon views become mainstream they become ripe for criticism on a mass scale.
hellgas00··on Ask HN: Let's build an HN uBlacklist to improve our Google search results?
I have been using Brave Search for the last half year, results seem to be better than DDG and you can append g! to your searches like DDG for Google results.
hellgas00··on How can we make air conditioners more efficient? [video]
LG uses linear compressors in their fridges, very similar to this design and they have been out for years. They generally fail after only a few years, terrible reliability in comparison to a piston compressor.
hellgas00··on Facebook suppressed report that made it look bad
That's not exactly what the article you post says;

"Dr. Gregory Michael’s official cause of death stemmed from complications with immune thrombocytopenia, or ITP, a blood disorder caused by an immune reaction, after getting the Pfizer vaccine, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department said."

hellgas00··on Facebook shuts out NYU academics’ research on political ads
"The idealistic future is one with much more censorship"

Hopefully this can be made into a bumper sticker.

hellgas00··on Top German court strikes down Facebook rules on hate speech
Divide and conquer, as old as politics and war. In this case, populist resentment is the obstacle.
