A fun way to celebrate!
helghardt··on Show HN: Lean Canvas AI
I’ll add something to let you save your ideas in one place. One idea is to make it more interactive, which I think would be a bit more flexible as a web app. However, I’ll look into Notion. Thanks for the feedback.

helghardt··on AI May Change Entrepreneurship
I have been exploring this topic as well.

A fun thought experimenting is to stitch the latest YC AI startups together to see if it could in turn start a startup.

It is interesting to see in how many key areas of the startup journey YC invested in.

Everything from problem discovery, persona creation, market research to coding and doing support.

helghardt··on Ask HN: In person industry tours and site visits?
Thanks Reghardt! Sal dit uitcheck :-)
helghardt··on Ask HN: In person industry tours and site visits?
Yes, I think the in-person experience helps you process the context of the work environment better. What type of people work there, what a typical day may look like, sheer scale required to do certain stuff. I remember vividly how enormous the wind terminal seemed up close. And realizing someone had to get the thing on the pole - and asking how they did that.
helghardt··on Ask HN: In person industry tours and site visits?
Thanks for sharing the link! Will check it out. I am curious about digging into how this type of site visits could be more streamlined for teachers that don’t have the time or resources to organize it.
helghardt··on Ask HN: In person industry tours and site visits?
In hindsight, it takes a special kind of teacher to go through the effort of organizing these trip. Only later I heard that this head master funded it out of pocket since he could not take everyone on the excursions.
helghardt··on Ask HN: In person industry tours and site visits?
This is interesting. Not only giving you exposure to how things work, but also encouraging awareness of things easily taken for granted.

I went through the latest YC Batch. What struck me was, that if the AI startups were stitched together, they could start and run startups without founders or teams.

I know it is a bit far-fetched, but you’ll see it is a fun thought experiment that may help some founders identify startup ideas (gaps that YC startups aren’t filling yet).

helghardt··on Ask HN: Does your Airbnb need a website?
Thanks for sharing! I’ll explore a bit to see if they provide websites too.
helghardt··on Ask HN: Does Your GitHub Repo Need a Landing Page
Someone that sees a demo recording on AutoGPT in action and then curious how it works.

By reading more on the site they get an understanding from a site that is simpler to digest.

What I have seen is they then try to ask a developer friend to help them set it up on their computer. They were sold on the pretty stuff, not the README.

Now they try stay up to date on the high-level developments. When the new UI is being shipped, interesting things other people do with the code, when a hosted option is coming, etc.

The hardcore dev part is out of their reach, but they find the use cases/demos interesting.

helghardt··on Ask HN: Does Your GitHub Repo Need a Landing Page
Great points!

The ones you listed are quite detailed. It seems to lean more toward augmenting the README.

The trade off between keeping it simple and detailed comes with who you intend to attract.

My assumption is that developers will prefer the README anyway, while the landing page may be for non-developers. Especially projects like AutoGPT where there is an end user/non-dev value proposition.

This blog created landing pages for startup ideas that have been generated and upvoted by users on ideasai.com

What if spinning up landing pages on custom domains was automated? Do you think the AI could make money selling landing pages with a waiting list? Like "pre-validated" start up concepts.

How would it work:

Scrape http://ideasai.com and spin up landing pages with @LampBuilderAI

Hook up your domain registrar to automatically host domains. LampBuilder offers free custom domain hosting.

Build up a waiting list and try to sell the site.

helghardt··on Ask HN: Platform to Find Early Adopters?
I like this idea, but the hard thing here is that people that are early adopters probably don’t represent the real end user.

I have been thinking about a platform where people could list their problems. Like an outlet to rant about things. Perhaps combining a ranting platform with access to early solutions to a particular problem could solve the above dilemma.

In a way Producthunt and Indiehacker is this community, but they tend to be very tech orientated. So it is not picking up on the every day problems.

I liked what Earn.com did at some point where you could join a list to partake in paid surveys. Initially they were quite strict about who are approved for a list which obviously made the results more valuable.

Have you tried to test interest for people joining such a platform as beta testers?

helghardt··on Show HN: Feedbase – Customer feedback widget on your website, AI dashboard
Very interesting! I am working on lampbuilder.com with a friend. It is an AI landing page generator. Could be interesting to add this type of widget as an add on. Fel free to DM if you want to chat more.

I have been playing with minimalist social media. Side project for myself and friends, but opened it up for other to try too :-)

helghardt··on Ask HN: Secure messaging to solve phishing scams
The problem with in-app messaging is that they still fall back to sms and email MFA.
helghardt··on Ask HN: What is the best password management guide for 50 year olds?
It does seem like paper notes are a good reliable option.

Thanks for pointing that out - I don’t mean all 50 year olds struggle with this problem. I guess it is more accurately described as a solution for parents that are depending on their kids/others to give advice/guidance on digital stuff.

The issue with the paper system comes in when they sign up for new things on mobile and they don’t have the paper at hand. It also becomes messy for password changes. And now that we are trying to force them to use unique passwords per service, the list becomes really long! Especially if it is for both parents. Across banking, utilities, social media, paid television, ecommerce, ebooks, etc they have at least 35+ accounts to manage each. They also struggle with their vision which means it needs to be written out in quite large font.

But the main issue I have actually is beyond password management. It is perhaps better classified as general digital security and online identity management. For example, if they use the paper password system I know for a fact they will snap a picture as a backup if I don’t tell and remind them not to do so…

The other issue with the paper system is that there is no good backup. And backups they certainly need!

I totally agree that authentication is general is not solved.

helghardt··on Ask HN: Is There a Crunchbase for Policitians?
It would be great if it could have an archive of opinions around specific topics too. And perhaps a way to get insight into the background/motivations of donors. Like on Crunchbase you can visit the websites of funds that invested and get an idea of their goals/ambitions.
helghardt··on What's your favourite unknown newsletter?
I super like Simon de la Rouviere’s work. He writes thoughtful long form content circling fiction, storytelling, communities, social media, web3, NFT, art and crypto. Often ahead of the curve of how new technologies can be applied.

https://newsletter.simondlr.com/

He also wrote a sci-fi book that showcases many of his ideas in a story. It is fun to follow a newsletter that gets bundle into something more over time. Book link below:

helghardt··on Ask HN: Secure messaging to solve phishing scams
Another benefit that comes to mind is the cost saving of not having to send SMS’es. In some regions SMS’es go up to $0.25/SMS via services like Twilio/local variations.
helghardt··on Ask HN: What features do you think are missing from Goodreads?
Yeah, I agree on all three those points. And they seem like strong reasons for alternatives to exist, but wondering why it seems like a non-contested product category. Wonder what we are missing that gives it such a strong moat.
helghardt··on Ask HN: What is the best password management guide for 50 year olds?
1password seems good. I like that I can be a backup to help recover the account for them. This is a strong option, but I suspect they will struggle to keep switching between the app, 1password and MFA app to just login…
helghardt··on Ask HN: What is the best password management guide for 50 year olds?
Yeah, I am also leaning towards a printed out sheet. The issue is using it across different devices and on mobile they end up being stuck without a password. I like how Google and Apple lets you configure a backup email/account, which has been useful to get the alerts if they try to change their password for example.
helghardt··on Ask HN: Anyone using or working on a life dashboard?
Personally, I would love something that combines a life dashboard (show me how things are going, what I can work on, etc) and a personal assistant (someone to help me plan, make sure I go the dentist, review my health insurance, renew my car license, etc. Ideally it should give an overview of all key life things: finances, health, family, will, etc. Insights should be short term, medium term and long term. I should also be able to reflect on historic data as well and ideally compare with other people my age. And then finally, the dashboard & assistant should help me prioritize things by giving specific/focused instructions.
