healsdata··on DoorDash Spent $1.4M Trying to Stop Mamdani from Becoming Mayor. Now We Know Why
Their appeal initially was that they would deliver for places that didn't have their own drivers. So you went from only getting pizza and Chinese delivery to anything being available.

Now, everyone is offloading their deliveries to DoorDash. Wendy's first-party delivery is just a wrapper for DoorDash. Pizza Hut used DoorDash if they don't have enough drivers available. Even PetSmart or Petco uses DoorDash for delivery now.

Not saying it's right or good, but you could order from Pizza Hut and still get a gig worker if their driver called out stick today.

healsdata··on A/I shuts down
Substack knowingly and openly platforms neo-nazis, allowing them to profit from their rhetoric while taking a piece of the action. Even if the authors avoid specific calls to violence to skirt the ToS, it still gives them fertile ground for recruitment and funding of their activities.

By your definition, then, Substack should be labelled as a terrorist organization and shutdown, yes?

healsdata··on Gmail to end support for "Send as" for third-party addresses, such as @yahoo.com
What an odd choice of inflammatory language for a feature that uses standard email headers. It doesn't forge anything since it clearly says it was sent from the GMail account on behalf of the other email address in the headers.
healsdata··on CEO who fired 900 people on Zoom just before Christmas wants his job back
There's a huge range of options between a terse Zoom call with 900 people on it and flying everyone to NY. And if you're someone who previously said "You are TOO DAMN SLOW. You are a bunch of DUMB DOLPHINS… SO STOP IT. STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW. YOU ARE EMBARRASSING ME" to your employees, you may want to lean towards the more humane options if you don't want to get dragged.
healsdata··on Why Are There Statues of Beavers on Top of This Oxford Street Shop?
Hopefully Buc-ee's doesn't decide to sue them too for trademark infringement.
healsdata··on Thunderbird Desktop settings research: what we learned from your feedback
Search doesn't work on mobile for me at all. On Desktop, I always have to fiddle with filters to find the message I want.
healsdata··on Resetting Xbox
> There hasn't been a time when developers have been more disconnected from their audience than now.

There are studios that routinely put out games that people love. For example, my wife and I will happily pre-order the next co-op game from Hazelight Studios. FromSoftware, Ghost Ship Games, and others fall into the same boat for many people.

The difference, in my opinion, is that games from these studios don't focus on creating an "always on" service, microtransactions, day-1 DLC, MRR, etc. Those things that blight games made by corporate studios are evidence of corporate executives putting their thumb on the scale.

There's only so much you can do, as a developer, to polish a turd.

healsdata··on Free the Icons
If one is this passionate about icons, why not just install (or even make) a custom icon pack? The default icons for Google Apps on Android are awful, but I haven't seen them in years aside from setting up a new device.
healsdata··on A new Postcrossing stamp from the USA
The triangle design is pretty cool; I can't recall ever seeing one like that in the wild, but it looks like it's been a possibility since '97.
healsdata··on Llama.cpp's Agents.md
I'd love to see metrics on the number of PRs that violate this policy before and after the addition of this file. It wouldn't do much to stop someone doing human-in-the-loop agentic coding but I can see it helping with people who just point an unattended agent at open source projects' Issues list.
healsdata··on Get Shit Done: A meta-prompting, context engineering and spec-driven dev system
Just tried GSD and Plan Mode on the same exact task (prompt in an MD file). Plan Mode had a plan and then base implementation in twenty minutes. GSD ran for hours to achieve the same thing.

I reviewed the code from both and the GSD code was definitely written with the rest of the project and possibilities in mind, while the Claude Plan was just enough for the MVP.

I can see both having their pros and cons depending on your workflow and size of the task.

healsdata··on Wired headphone sales are exploding
My wired headphones never run out of battery. They also don't drop the connection if my pocket is at the wrong angle from my ears.
healsdata··on Show HN: Govbase – Follow a bill from source text to news bias to social posts
The current summary on the home page contains bias / one-sided reporting.

> While the administration describes the strikes as a necessary move to stop nuclear weapons, the conflict has already seen accidental friendly fire and threats of a ground invasion.

The balance to the assertion "this was necessary" isn't "but there's been some consequences" -- it is an exploration of the truth of the assertion.

healsdata··on I was banned from Claude for scaffolding a Claude.md file?
The author code have easily shared the last version of Claude.md that had the all caps or whatever, but didn't. Points to something fishy in my mind.
healsdata··on Ask HN: Best Podcasts of 2025?
I really enjoyed the "Michael Hobbes Podcast Universe" this year. He's a reporter who is now making entertaining podcasts debunking claims in the media/zeitgeist. I appreciate that he takes a pragmatic approach -- to paraphrase something he said: "There's probably an impact on kids having so much screen time, but this data you're citing doesn't show what you're claiming."

If Books Could Kill: https://www.ifbookspod.com

Maintenance Phase: https://www.maintenancephase.com

You're Wrong About: https://yourewrongabout.com (Hobbes retired from this one around Oct 2021)

There's a similar podcast where he's also made an appearance:

healsdata··on Adafruit: Arduino’s Rules Are ‘Incompatible With Open Source’
> Adafruit is trying to drum up some marketing content

This was evident to me when their original post "yada yada yada'd" over the details to make things in the agreement sound sinister.

healsdata··on Post-mortem of Shai-Hulud attack on November 24th, 2025
Imagine my surprise that the company that posts "Collaboration sucks" and endorses a YOLO approach to decision making then has a security breach based on misconceptions of a GitHub action that was caught by security tools and could have been proven out via collaboration or a metered approach to decision making.
healsdata··on Migrating the main Zig repository from GitHub to Codeberg
> intermittent outages

The outages have gone from "almost every Friday" to "several times per week".

healsdata··on The most male and female reasons to end up hospital
Babies. 8% of the patients under that category are Age 0

Edit: the full billing code is "Obstetric and gynaecological devices associated with adverse incidents" Billing code Y76 "describes the circumstance causing an injury, not the nature of the injury."

So injuring a baby during delivery with forceps would result in this code.

healsdata··on Arduino Terms of Service and Privacy Policy update: setting the record straight
How would you want to see this further clarified?

> Military Use: Use by or for any military organization or for any military purpose, including but not limited to projects sponsored or paid for by military organizations, or use by the U.S. Department of Defense (except for DARPA), U.S. Armed Forces, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. intelligence agencies, or any foreign counterparts of the foregoing.

healsdata··on Arduino Terms of Service and Privacy Policy update: setting the record straight
Adafruit acted a bit shady here. Their original post includes:

"Military weird things"

Reading the ToS, the two mentions of military are "don't use our AI product for military use" and in the export and trade controls section.

How are either of those weird?

healsdata··on Arduino Terms of Service and Privacy Policy update: setting the record straight
Their definition of "the platform" in the TOS is verbose and has weird grammar. I can see how people came away with a different understanding.

> User shall not translate, decompile or reverse-engineer the Platform, or engage in any other activity designed to identify the algorithms and logic of the Platform’s operation, unless expressly allowed by Arduino or by applicable license agreements;

> The Site is part of the platform developed and managed by Arduino, which allows users to take part in the discussions on the Arduino forum, the Arduino blog, the Arduino User Group, the Arduino Discord channel, and the Arduino Project Hub, and to access the Arduino main website, subsites, Arduino Cloud, Arduino Courses, Arduino Certifications, Arduino Docs, the Arduino EDU kit sites to release works within the Contributor License Agreement program, and to further develop the Arduino open source ecosystem (collectively, the “Platform”).

healsdata··on Kimberly-Clark is buying Tylenol maker Kenvue in cash and stock deal worth –$48B
Ah crap. I tried to put ~ since the original headline had the word "about" but I must have typo'd.
healsdata··on Space Exploration Logo Archive
That Canadian logo is pretty sick.
healsdata··on The next chapter of the Microsoft–OpenAI partnership
> The two companies reportedly signed an agreement [in 2023] stating OpenAI has only achieved AGI when it develops AI systems that can generate at least $100 billion in profits.

healsdata··on The next chapter of the Microsoft–OpenAI partnership
I'm not savvy on investment terms, but most of these bullet points seem like a loss for Microsoft.

What's the value in investing in a smaller company and then giving up things produced off that investment when the company grows?

healsdata··on 10M people watched a YouTuber shim a lock; the lock company sued him – bad idea
Bang on. LPL himself uses a slightly modified Kwikset lock. The modification seizes the lock if someone tries to pick it. I'm the video, he says it isn't to stop all break-ins, but to stop non-destructive break-ins.
healsdata··on Job Listing Site Highlighting H-1B Positions So Americans Can Apply
At least one company I worked at purposefully crafted these job descriptions so that no one would be qualified. They'd find the most obscure parts of our tech stack, require hands on experience with each library, knowledge of our niche, and so on.

You basically had to be already working for us to have the required experience.

healsdata··on Ask HN: What trick of the trade took you too long to learn?
My comment had nothing to do with being a senior citizen.

If you're putting the maximum in your HSA each year, you're participating in a high-deductible healthcare plan.

> If you got your HSA-qualified HDHP through your employer, your average [premium] looked like $90 per month if you were single and $432 for your family.

> Median annual deductible for private industry workers participating in HDHP plans was $2,750.

> Average out-of-pocket maximum was $4,422 for single coverage.

healsdata··on Ask HN: What trick of the trade took you too long to learn?
And also Step 4a: Don't need to use the healthcare system.
