hbcondo714··on Show HN: I built TicketData – Ticket price trends and data for Sports & Concerts
> using data from sites like StubHub, Vivid Seats, SeatGeek, etc

Congrats! That is inspiring you kept the passion for this for over 14 years. I’m assuming your data needs changed over this timespan so how did you end up getting this data? APIs, scraping, something else?

hbcondo714··on Micro Center and iFixit Team Up to Make Tech Repair More Accessible
I assumed Micro Center went out of business like Fry's[1] but I happened to drive by one of their locations[2] and was pleasantly surprised to see its parking lot full with folks going in and out of the store. I need to go back and relive my childhood memory of walking down the aisle seeing motherboards in the flesh.

hbcondo714··on Ultra efficient vector extension for SQLite
The author replied to one of my comments[1] here on HN a few months ago when I asked about doing ANN on the edge; nice to see it arrive!

hbcondo714··on Windows ML is generally available
> Windows ML is the built-in AI inferencing runtime optimized for on-device model inference...lets both new and experienced developers build AI-powered apps

This sounds equivalent to Apple's announcement last week about opening up access for any developer to tap into the on-device large language model at the core of Apple Intelligence[1]

No matter the device, this is a win-win for developers making & consumers getting privacy-focused apps

hbcondo714··on Will Amazon S3 Vectors kill vector databases or save them?
It would be great to have the vector database run on the edge / on-device for offline-first and be privacy-focused. https://objectbox.io/ does this but i would like to see AWS and others offer this as well.
hbcondo714··on Kenvue stock drops on report RFK Jr will link autism to Tylenol during pregnancy
Thanks but this is only one study and they even conclude that some non-genetic factors may also contribute to causing autism

There are many causes of autism. Research suggests that autism spectrum disorder (ASD) develops from a combination of:

Genetic influences and

Environmental influences, including social determinants

Do you have a scientific source for this?

hbcondo714··on Show HN: SwiftAI – open-source library to easily build LLM features on iOS/macOS
Mind me asking what your thoughts are on the overall quality of Apple's on-device LLMs? I've found that LanguageModelSession always returns very lengthy responses:

hbcondo714··on Show HN: Swift Scribe: On-device AI scribe using Apple's new Foundation Models
Thanks for posting this. I tried using your Guidelines instructions format[1] in my app but no matter what, the LanguageModelSession always returns very lengthy / verbose responses. I set the maximumResponseTokens[2] option to various small numbers but it doesn't appear to have any effect. Did you by chance encounter this issue as well?

hbcondo714··on Apple announces Foundation Models and Containerization frameworks, etc
> You don’t have to worry about the exact tokens that Foundation Models operates with, the API nicely abstracts that away for you [1]

I have the same question. Their Deep dive into the Foundation Models framework video is nice for seeing code using the new `FoundationModels` library but for a "deep dive", I would like to learn more about tokenization. Hopefully these details are eventually disclosed unless someone else here already knows?

hbcondo714··on Showh HN: SQLite JavaScript - extend your database with JavaScript
> Every SQLite Cloud database comes with the sqlite-vec extension pre-installed. sqlite-vec is currently built and optimized for brute-force vector search. This means there is no approximate nearest neighbor search available at this time[1]

Darn, ANN would be awesome to have on the edge.

hbcondo714··on Show HN: HelixDB – Open-source vector-graph database for AI applications (Rust)
Congrats! Any chance Helixdb can be run in the browser too, maybe via WASM? I'm looking for a vector db that can be pre-populated on the server and then be searched on the client so user queries (chat) stay on-device for privacy / compliance reasons.

hbcondo714··on Devs say AI crawlers dominate traffic, forcing blocks on entire countries
Maybe 'paywalled' is not the best word but using their Identity Based Crawling feature with Managed Browsers[1], you can use an existing account and scrape content that requires authentication. This may not sound like anything new but IMHO, crawl4ai's workflow is easy to follow.
