hauxir··on Show HN: Kosmic Kart – Mario Kart-style racing with friends in the browser
Made this for Kosmi, where you hang out with friends in a room: send a link and you're racing over voice and video in the browser, no install. It's all three.js with the karts, items and tracks generated in code, and each browser runs its own kart's physics and sends it to the others P2P over WebRTC data channels.
hauxir··on Pgbackrest is no longer being maintained
been using databasus(https://github.com/databasus/databasus) works pretty well so far.
hauxir··on Show HN: Play poker with friends in the browser – with built-in video chat
The poker game runs entirely in the browser with WebRTC video chat baked in. All logic happens serverside, written in Elixir/Phoenix.

RNG is fully server-side (Elixir). Uses Enum.shuffle/1 (Fisher-Yates) seeded from OS entropy. Fresh shuffle each hand, not deterministic. Frontend only receives dealt cards, no deck access.
hauxir··on Show HN: BBC2Podcast – Geo-unblocking proxy for BBC radio as podcasts
I built this because I wanted to listen to Benji B and Essential Mix but BBC recently started geo-blocking everyone outside the UK. Now I just run this behind a UK VPN and get episodes delivered to Overcast like a normal podcast.
hauxir··on Show HN: CineCLI – Browse and torrent movies directly from your terminal
built something similar but a webapp where you can search using any tracker supported by jackett and stream in your browser, can have a look here https://github.com/hauxir/rapidbay
hauxir··on Show HN: MacOS Live Screensaver – A screensaver that plays live video streams
it uses yt-dlp so it should already support that
hauxir··on Show HN: MacOS Live Screensaver – A screensaver that plays live video streams
interesting you pointed that out because i ran into that exact problem!

look at the animateoneframe function, there's the workaround

They most definitely are.

However this project is so simple it's more akin to a script. Really not that hard to grasp despite not knowing swift.

Also vibe coded an android tv version and used this codebase as input ;)

it's just claude code commiting and pushing for me because i'm lazy
hauxir··on Show HN: MacOS Live Screensaver – A screensaver that plays live video streams
Is that really the point anymore :D?
hauxir··on Live Stream from the Namib Desert
created an android tv screensaver for this

hauxir··on Show HN: Android TV screensaver that plays live YouTube streams
I built this mainly for myself - I love leaving the Namib Desert live stream on when my TV is idle. Way more interesting than the default screensavers, and it turns the TV into an ambient window to nature.
hauxir··on Show HN: MacOS Live Screensaver – A screensaver that plays live video streams
Or any live stream on youtube for that matter, surprised this didn't exist before!
hauxir··on Live Stream from the Namib Desert
you can now turn this into your screensaver on macs!

hauxir··on Seedbox Lite: A lightweight torrent streaming app with instant playback
somewhat similar to my project called rapidbay. https://github.com/hauxir/rapidbay
hauxir··on I run a full Linux desktop in Docker just because I can
I run my whole development environment in a docker container. Not desktop mind you but my neovim/tmux/fish setup.

This allows me to sandbox my whole environment so i can run it exactly the same no matter the machine, including all packages and editor plugins.

If anyone wants to check it out it's at https://github.com/hauxir/dotfiles

the devenv.sh file describes my entire environment.

hauxir··on What are the best online activities to do with friends remotely?
kosmi.io is a great tool for this, you can watch movies together as well as playing games.

have a look at hyperbeam
hauxir··on Elixir/Erlang Hot Swapping Code (2016)
It's a little hacky but I'll try to explain:

* The server runs in a docker container which has an ssh server installed and running in the background. The reason for SSH is simply because that's what edeliver/distillery uses.

* The CI(local github runner) runs in a docker container as well which handles building and deploying the updated releases when merged on master.

* We use edeliver to deploy the hot upgrades/releases from the CI container to the server container. This happens automatically unless stopped which we do for larger merges where a restart is needed.

* The whole deployment process is done in a bash script which uses the git hash for versioning, edeliver for deploying and in the end it runs the database migrations.

I'm not going to say it's perfect but it's allowed us to move pretty damn fast.

hauxir··on Elixir/Erlang Hot Swapping Code (2016)
At kosmi.io we use elixir hot swapping for every small patch/bugfix on the backend. This allows us to deploy updates multiple times a day with 0 disruption.

Allows the clients to remain connected and be none the wiser that there was an update at all.

For larger updates we just do hard restarts when in-memory data structures or supervision tree are changed.

hauxir··on Using Erlang hot code updates
We use hot code upgrades on kosmi.io with great success.

It's absolute magic and allows for very rapid development and ease of deploying fixes and updates.

We do use have to use distillery though and have had to resort to a bunch of custom glue bash scripts which I wish was more standardized because it's such a killer feature.

Due to Elixirs efficiency, everything is running on a single node despite thousands of concurrents so haven't really experienced how it handles multiple nodes.

hauxir··on Show HN: Open-source Counter-Strike-like game
Something I'd love to have is a version of counter strike 1.6 with open source assets.

Something similar to OpenArena for quake but for cs 1.6.

Could be built on top of https://github.com/Velaron/cs16-client

hauxir··on Ask HN: Why Isn't Elixir More Popular?
