haskell_melody··on Reasons to Join Tumblr
Tumblr has all the infrastructure to be the new Twitter. Surprised there hasn't been more discussion of that in the media.
haskell_melody··on Taste vs. Skills
Great article.
haskell_melody··on The coming tsunami of fakery
In this environment, curating services like https://thinking-about-things.com/ or https://essays.findka.com/ are becoming increasingly valuable.
haskell_melody··on The coming tsunami of fakery
http://readsomethinginteresting.com/ is also great.
haskell_melody··on Being-Doing Balance over Work-Life Balance
This brings to mind Compass Rose's piece Shabbat Hard or Go Home.

haskell_melody··on Ask HN: How do you stop time wasting on the internet?
Pipe all the sites you find yourself getting distracted on into /etc/hosts and redirect them to 127.0.0.1.
haskell_melody··on Tell HN: Godaddy canceled my domain, gave me 2h to respond, then charged €150
I've been using Hover for years and have never had any problems.
haskell_melody··on Why Is the Web So Monotonous? Google
The About page of Read Something Interesting (https://readsomethinginteresting.com/about) conveys this well.
haskell_melody··on The OG Social Network: Other People’s Websites
Wish there was something like Read Something Interesting (http://readsomethinginteresting.com/) but with a search index, where you could search only the blogosphere.
haskell_melody··on The OG Social Network: Other People’s Websites
The hard part is finding the interesting websites - there is such a firehose of content that we've necessitated a separate role for content curators.

I get Thinking About Things, which points me to interesting sites on the internet (https://thinking-about-things.com/). Another great one is Findka essays (https://essays.findka.com/). Would love to hear any other recommendations.

haskell_melody··on I talked to Leonardo da Vinci
This is fantastic, please keep up the series. I've been enjoying it immensely.

haskell_melody··on Ask HN: Do you maintain a list of RSS links of GOAT blogs?
The best way I've found of discovering new blogs is Thinking About Things (https://www.thinking-about-things.com). I was introduced to it recently and it's introduced me to great new blogs. I like it because it sends one article per email, so it's a slow drop that lets me evaluate each independently, instead of being one giant overwhelming list.
haskell_melody··on Commenting on Hacker News
One thing I've noticed: US-based commenters are much more negative and cynical than anyone else. I've made posts (under a previous username) when the US folks were asleep and got great, helpful replies, only to get much more negative, less nuanced comments once the US woke up.

haskell_melody··on Rethinking Hierarchy in the Workplace (2017)
I worked for a well-known "flat" company, and it was awful.

There is a point to hierarchy. There is great value to knowing who is more knowledgable and experienced, and who isn't expected to be. And it is nice to have a promotional process to aspire to and push you to become better at your job.

haskell_melody··on Recession-Fearing Bosses Quietly Abandon Open Jobs
Much better than hiring and firing, or requiring mass layoffs later. IMO US companies need to be hiring much more slowly. I can't find it at the moment but I remember Basecamp put out a post a while back that "we are not hiring", explaining that they prefer to invest in internal talent.
