hashmush··on The Swedish phoneme notorious for having a dedicated IPA symbol, /ɧ/ (2016)
It's the same with <ch> and <sh> for me. It took way too long for me to realize that they are different sounds in English ((Standard) Swedish does not have any affricates), or that <z> is supposed to sound different from <s> (/z/ does not exist in Swedish).

If anyone pronounces <ch> as <sh>, <z> as <s> and <j> as <y> they're probably Swedish.

The Wikipedia article on the Sj-sound has some audio samples for those wanting to know what it can sound like.

hashmush··on I Can Eat Glass
Which makes isglass such a great word.
hashmush··on German for Programmers
Well, it works for many cognates. Haus/house/hus all come from the same word, so if you know that it's "ein/das Haus" you can expect it to be "ett hus/huset" in Swedish. Same with e.g Hund/hound/hund, "ein/der Hund" is masculine so it is of common gender in Swedish "en hund/hunden".
hashmush··on France bans smartphone use in schools
It is illegal in a lot of countries if I'm reading this page correctly: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phones_and_driving_safe...
hashmush··on You know how HTTP GET requests are meant to be idempotent?
That would be an involution!

hashmush··on Swedes turn against cashlessness
This is confusing. I thought it was just a couple of friends and I that thought that cashless is a horrible idea. Seems like we at least have older people on our side.

> Yet Sweden is divided into two camps: the first says "we love the new technology", while the other just can’t be bothered, Skarec says.

Also, it is scary that people think like this. Everyone is in such a rush to digitize everything and implement new tech that we don't think about the consequences of our actions. E.g the scandal from last year where Transportstyrelsen (Swedish Transport Agency) outsourced work to a company in the Czech Republic and gave people without security clearance access to the database. That included access to details concerning military vehicles and two different police registers.

hashmush··on Tea if by sea, cha if by land: Why the world only has two words for tea
Herbal tea is örtte (lit. herb + tea). Chai is something different.
hashmush··on How the Å came to be
It's always funny to see "STARGÅTE", the Norwegian space puzzle [1]. Also, for more confusing uses of umlauts/diacritics, see the Wikipedia article on "Röck Döts" [2].

I agree. A really annoying "feature". I can understand it if you use the English qwerty-layout but not when you use the Swedish/Norwegian/Danish/German layout.

There is an open issue for this over at the android issue tracker. https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/37104657
