hartator··on Tesla Recalls Almost 13,000 EVs over Risk of Battery Power Loss
Front doors are just regular handles.
hartator··on Apple M5 chip
> After the M-series chip, the MBPs are just too powerful and no longer necessary for the average white collar worker (they seem like “actual” pro machines, now) to the point where we now order regular MacBooks (not Pro’s) for new employees

Regular MBs are not really a thing anymore. You mean Airs?

hartator··on Chess.com regional pricing: A case study
> The fnf6_diamond_yearly_022025 SKU is particularly interesting.

It irks me when we use “SKU” for SaaS.

Does SaaS has a limited amount of stock of products?

hartator··on Tesla Cybertruck Isn't Allowed in Germany, Not Even the US Army Can Change That
Well technically the US Army can if they really want to.
hartator··on Pre-record your demos
At the same time, no one will be talking about the new Meta if not for the demo failures.
hartator··on Show HN: Autism Simulator
Is it possible to win?

Most I was able to do is day 2. Probably realistic.

hartator··on ChatControl: EU wants to scan all private messages, even in encrypted apps
Explicit digital privacy right in each country constitution?

Priva rights are already there in most countries constitutions, but maybe adding the digital part will make it harder to push back.

hartator··on Rails Needs New Governance
I mean you can agree or disagree with DHH's politics, however I can see why it should affect our perception of his work on Ruby on Rails.

The article - outside of vague alignment with public figures and a few controversial blog posts - doesn't make any technical points.

hartator··on The Socratic Journal Method: A Simple Journaling Method That Works
You doing so much studying of meditation and not knowing any of its documented downsides is worrisome.

Most actual white papers discourage the use of meditation. Risks of suicide, depersonalization, desocialisation, and loop thinkings are very real.

hartator··on ReMarkable Paper Pro Move
Pretty disappointing release.

Over the years, I have bought 3 reMarkable 2 and 1 reMarkable Pro. That move to colors and having to charge a pen instead of more features (a Kindle integration will be sweet), faster devices, and focusing on better feedback on writing seems a bit of a fumble.

hartator··on What is going on right now?
I think the key here is no-one wants to read someone else ChatGPT.

Even when it’s been vetted by another engineer via actual tests, there is something that in my flesh not me want to read that output?

hartator··on Let's get real about the one-person billion dollar company
Wasn’t 100% of the code directly written by Notch until 1-year before acquisition?
hartator··on Claude Opus 4.1
> 1 min read

What the point of these?

Kind of interesting that we live in an area of AI super advanced, but still make basic UI/UX mistake. The tagline of this blog post shouldn't be "1 min read".

It's not even accurate. I timed myself not reading fast but not slow, took me 3 min 30s. Maybe the images need be OCRed to make the estimation more accurate.

hartator··on AI slows down open source developers. Peter Naur can teach us why
I am not super sure how to quickly writing benchmark scripts that are one-shot used slows anyone down, but okay.
hartator··on ICEBlock, an app for anonymously reporting ICE sightings, goes viral
> anywhere that's not an airport

Why are we accepting this even at airport?

Locking the doors of the cockpit made another 9/11 close to impossible.

hartator··on Infrastructure at Roblox
Idk, I play with them, and it seems the usual online game activities, not anything crazy.

The games are pretty additive though, and the fake money becomes real money pretty fast.

hartator··on Starcloud can’t put a data centre in space at $8.2M in one Starship
> There, 24/7 solar power is unhindered by day/night cycles, weather, and atmospheric losses (attenuation).

Wouldn’t the earth still get in the way of the sun or it’s too far away?

hartator··on I convinced HP's board to buy Palm and watched them kill it
Yeah, 8 weeks is nothing.

I feel if he was able to read news about the situation, he should probably have reached out to try to salvage the situation.

Or he should have people, processes in place, and company vision that supports all of this outside of himself.

I remember loving Palm for so long, but they were playing catching up after the iPhone. Same fate as blackberry. Both should have double down (clean, focused work via stilus) and keyboard-based workflow instead of rushing things.

He seems the author wants to talk shit about Leo Apotheker while trying to get some traction for his new side business.

hartator··on Apple introduces a universal design across platforms
> accessibility nightmare.

It’s also annoying, slow you down, and anyway useless if you don’t have a physical issue with them.

hartator··on Tesla seeks to guard crash data from public disclosure
Isn’t Tesla Model S Plaid still ranked the fastest (maybe 1 or 2 $300k super cars are faster) while being the safest and have arguably the most advanced self drive available in the market?
hartator··on One thing Tesla and Comma.ai overlooked in self-driving
It wasn’t real rain though. If the vehicle stopped because of the water instead of seeing the mannequin, there is no much value to the lidars.
hartator··on One thing Tesla and Comma.ai overlooked in self-driving
The main downside is not just a cost thing but its waves are blocked by moist in air, rain, and dense fog. So, it will also degrades to just use cameras in this conditions.
