hariharan_uno··on US – Iran negotiations end with no deal reached
Normally yes, but this is the Suez canal moment for US. I think countries stopped caring about US especially in the last year and starting reducing dependence on US economically and politically. So, the unpredictable Trump may try to do something dramatic. China will be the biggest winner of this all.
hariharan_uno··on US – Iran negotiations end with no deal reached
yeah, I think this will escalate further and US might drop a tactical one on some island (military but not heavily inhabited) as a show of power. I don't see a way back out otherwise for US.

hariharan_uno··on Anthropic, please make a new Slack
is that a weird way of adding headcount, my company also does that by anthropomorphizing AI agents and I find it weird. I'd find it natural to call it a 2 person startup (whether you use 1 agent or 100 agents)
hariharan_uno··on How to found a company in Germany: 14 "easy" steps and lots of pain
I completely agree. I have been living here for 8 years, and recently applied for a permanent settlement permit.

My application went into a blackhole for more than 4 months, while my existing permit expired, essentially making me a prisoner here (I can stay and work in Germany but if I travel internationally, I won't be allowed entry back).

Meanwhile, my applications for a temporary travel permit were unanswered for months. There is no way to contact the foreign office (no email, no telephone, no fax). You just send your application and pray.

I strongly advise anyone to stay away from Germany if you have better options. This country is a bureaucratic nightmare in general.

hariharan_uno··on Incident with Actions, API Requests, Codespaces and Pages
I think even if the percentage uptime is less on a self hosted one, at least you get more control over when to upgrade systems (perhaps in the evenings / weekends) with less impact to the devs.
hariharan_uno··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (July 2020)
Location: NRW, Germany

Remote: Yes (preferred)

Willing to relocate: Yes

Technologies: Go, Python, Ansible, Javascript, Linux, SQL

Resume: https://hariharan.uno/files/hari.pdf

Email: hhm@hariharan.uno

I recently completed my CS Masters program and am actively looking for a full-time position. I'm a generalist and can dive into any topic. I have quite a bit of software engineering / devops experience through my various internships and my student research assistant job. I'm also interested in Product Management (junior roles to start with). I care about the quality of my work and am willing to learn new technologies.

P.S. I'm open for contractual work too if that makes any difference.

hariharan_uno··on Ask HN: Which industries have most people have never heard of?
I think this is pretty well known. But I'd say most regular people haven't heard of ASML, which apparently produces the equipment used by all these fabs.

hariharan_uno··on Go 1.6 GC improvements
I think in the beginnning, there was some effort to have channels communicate over a network. But it didn't turn out easy / performant. Also, if they are absorbed into the standard library, I think their iteration speed is restricted because of compatibility requirements.
hariharan_uno··on Visualizing TCP (2010)
The link works fine for me. Try loading it again. Oh BTW the OP is not the author of the article.
hariharan_uno··on Ask HN: If you're not using a password manager tool, what's stopping you?
1. Disbelief in encryption tech used for the tool.

2. No guarantees that it won't be vulnerable at some point.

hariharan_uno··on Malawi app 'teaches UK pupils 18 months of maths in six weeks'
Not related to the app, but I wish people stop measuring education with time. In my opinion, kids must spend quite a bit of time understanding basic stuff. Information overdose reduces the quality of understanding. So, the metric shouldn't be "18 months of maths in 6 weeks". A child who learnt the same stuff in 18 months is able to comprehend advanced stuff in the later stages than a kid who learnt it in 6 weeks. Again, this is not a criticism about the app. We just need to give time for kids to learn stuff.
hariharan_uno··on Ask HN: How to start programming language design?
The language spec is very short compared to others.
