happycube··on Acard ANS-9010B 5.25-inch SATA x1-to-6-slot DDR2 RAM Disk (Deactivated)
Also it's a complex adapter, since it has to be a PCI-e host. Generally SATA->x (USB, SD card, etc) adapters can be done with much simpler app-specific microcontrollers with IP blocks sprinkled in.
happycube··on Intel tapes out chips on 1.8nm and 2nm production nodes
I think they just junked their network switch silicon. Again.
happycube··on Google Groups has been left to die
Yup, Deja destroyed itself - their interface and IIRC search got much worse before the end.
happycube··on Facebook LLAMA is being openly distributed via torrents
Who here didn't see this leak coming?

Replika's a good example of how a subscription model can go really wrong.
happycube··on U.S. Postal Service starts nationwide electric vehicle fleet, buying 9,250 EVs
From the article this is a separate contract for COTS trucks, along with some gas ones from Stellantis.
happycube··on Companies use drip pricing to overcharge consumers
Note that South San Francisco is actually in a different county.
happycube··on Apple issues security update for the almost 10-year-old iPhone 5S
Remember when it was Verizon that was the super-restrictive carrier?
happycube··on Which GPU(s) to get for deep learning
They nerfed the heck out of board memory in the 3000 series (3080 20GB was even made in limited quantity... going to miners in China :( ) so color me a bit skeptical.
happycube··on Ask HN: Techwise, how did TikTok get so good?
Difference is that Twitter threw Vine away...
happycube··on Ask HN: Techwise, how did TikTok get so good?
A 1/10 ratio sounds like a sensible explore/exploit ratio to me.
happycube··on Meta may use the Quest Pro's eye-tracking to serve ads because of course it will
For $1500 I wouldn't want any ads.
happycube··on Unlaunching the 12GB 4080
Intel all but rebadged dual-core i3's as i5's and i7's in mobile for years.
happycube··on Unlaunching the 12GB 4080
And the 3060ti has less memory (8 vs 12GB) - for many non-gaming uses (i.e. deep learning/ML) that makes it much less useful.
happycube··on Magic Leap 2: The most immersive AR platform for enterprise
They might've had Windows Media stuff to license before the iPod, but the Zune came later. (and the right parody phrase didn't exist then... "Welcome to the social... distancing.")
happycube··on The MIPS ThinkPad, Kind Of
Or a used ARM Chromebook. An Asus C100P in good nick is still quite nice IMO, aside from the lack of updates.
happycube··on Upcyling a 40-year-old Tandy Model 100 Portable Computer
It depends on the caps though - early surface mount ones can be terrible.
happycube··on Ladybird: A new cross-platform browser project
Webkit and Blink trace their roots back to KDE 2.0, afterall.

The web was a bit simpler back then, but still...

happycube··on A look inside Feynman’s calculus notebook
Reminds me of a now-old Doctor Who story (Paradise Towers) where the girl k^Hgangs used "unalive" the same way (although usually they were murder victims)
happycube··on Intel says one of its 13th Gen CPUs will hit 6GHz out of the box
They finally started moving forward in the 11th gen, where they backported the core originally meant to 10nm to 14nm. 12th gen had a nice IPC boost, pity they didn't keep AVX512 enabled IMO.
happycube··on Blocking Kiwifarms
I read the beginning as "the commercial threat to Cloudflare from continuing to host Kiwifarms."

That said, they should've done it a while ago.

happycube··on 4.2 Gigabytes, Or: How to Draw Anything
I forget where I saw it, but with a 200B parameter model generated text actually makes sense.
happycube··on A golden age of consumer convenience is passing
Fittingly, the article behind the link is paywalled.
happycube··on HBO Max pulls nearly 200 ‘Sesame Street’ episodes
SD Blu Rays would knock that down to "possible but impractical" - they could easily hold about 25 episodes per disk.
happycube··on Declining quality of consumer-grade products – 2009 fridge compressor autopsy
Whirlpool's top loaders are nothing like the ones made 20 years ago. They've gone to fully electronic controls, and switched from direct drive to a belt drive (which means they can't really do an agitation cycle either)
happycube··on Uses for an old Android device
... and some can be totally reflashed with mainstream Linux:

happycube··on How Did Elevators Lose Their Music?
It might have been intentional - Devo made their own Muzak-y versions (E-Z Listening Disk)
happycube··on Cheap junk flooding Amazon has brand names like MOFFBUZW
MOFFBUZW does sound like a logo Dall-E 2 would spit out.
happycube··on Vets today are like doctors yesterday
So in the end we basically get the worst of both worlds. Sigh.
happycube··on Ampere Announces 5nm Arm Server CPU
Not AFAIK, but Amazon's been selling Graviton 1 to Microtik.
