hangrybear666··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
Because I literally can just burn tokens instead of using any of my brain cells and the outcome is way better than what I would have achieved thinking deeply and intricately about the implementation because Opus 5.5 at xhigh implements way better than I ever could and I'm paid well and have studied for years and it's not a low-level environment at all.

Since opus 4.8 the tools have started surpassing me and now they are far gone, so implementing by hand would mean sacrificing quality and my main goal as an engineer has always been quality so even though I hate it, I must use the best tool for the job.

hangrybear666··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
> Many of us, deep down, are driven more by the joy of making things, solving problems, and seeing people use what we built than by the act of coding itself.

I've definitely always enjoyed the end-result but only for the fact that it proved I have overcome challenges and slowly but steadily inched one step closer towards mastery. Both are now gone, since mastery is not required and challenges are absent except the soul draining exhaustion of reading markdown all day. Now I'm just producing outcomes for my boss, rather than my own fulfillment. The journey has become a farce, I will ride this out and make my money but I don't care about it much anymore.

That being said in my free time, as in Hobby I am doing pentesting manually for fun. Because productivity is irrelevant for my hobbies, so I can still keep inching towards mastery and overcome challenges, at least on days where my job leaves any trace of surplus energy at the end of the day.

hangrybear666··on Solving Factorio Quality
The systematic and scientific approach is absolutely warranted if you want to produce legendary quality at scale. I brute forced my way to legendary mech armor with manually steered recycler loops and wasting millions of iron and copper in the process. Since playing on a Linux developer laptop with 0GB VRam and an onboard GPU (at 60FPS!) I couldn't have scaled it much larger anyways but the entire game, it's a fever dream of optimization and I love it.
hangrybear666··on Nicholas Polson has authored 258 academic papers in 2026 so far
Vadim Sokolov, the co-author of the paper mentioned in the post defends this insane practice and says they reviewed at least one of the 258 generated papers with their own eyes, they are thus not fake papers.

hangrybear666··on Dots: Always-on agents
It's actually hilarious to only read on this page intermittently, after not engaging for like 3 weeks I'm presented with 3 new product names that all read like a comedian wrote their marketing. The blatant disregard for security and privacy to push out something most developers have utter disrespect for, I really wonder what the target audience is, cause I cannot relate one bit.
hangrybear666··on Dots: Always-on agents
These recent product announcements sound like entirely plausible satire, but unfortunately most of these pages are not actually intended to be a joke, it's not even amusing, but mostly tiring.
hangrybear666··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
You're not wrong and it really comes down to how the tool is used. People wanting a quick solution, thus skipping the learning process entirely out of either complacency or because they feel like they don't have the time or energy are more at risk of atrophy I'd assume.

Personally the tools have simply gotten too good to ignore so I have been thinking about how to write skills and prompts in a way that enable me to keep learning, overcoming friction and challenges and not simply using the tool for hand holding and jumping straight to the end result.

For me personally, what matters is the process of learning and mastery, my self esteem depends on it, and enriching that with AI instead of AI eradicating that process for the sake of efficiency is my current challenge.

hangrybear666··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
You forgot to read the last line of my message, in my profession I utilize LLMs to a high degree, my point was, that in my free time I code by hand 1) because self esteem benefits from the process of problem solving 2) I want to understand the fundamentals to not feel like a fraud 3) there is no time pressure to perform.

People neglecting this side will inevitably become less proficient at their job and become rather helpless without AI, that's all I'm saying.

hangrybear666··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
This reads like satire - also it will not receive a lot of funding because the investment class doesn't want to hear that THEIR OWN job is in danger.
hangrybear666··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
Well in my personal projects I write all code by hand because people relying on agents will have forgotten how to do their fucking job in 3 years and then it will be appreciated to have people understanding what they're actually doing. That being said, in my job ai writes the code just because it's way faster.
hangrybear666··on The Highest Point in the Netherlands
I've recently hiked to the highest point of Belgium, it's 693 meters but because humans have some ego thing attached to round numbers they built a 7 meter tall stone tower you can ascend to hit 700m.
hangrybear666··on The Highest Point in the Netherlands
I live in Germany and right next to the highest point of the (European) Netherlands, it's only a 5k walk and you barely notice the elevation change. It's not necessarily underwhelming but definitely not overwhelming, in fact it's just whelming - so I'm glad OP got more out of the experience.
hangrybear666··on Claude: Elevated errors across all models – Resolved
Since anthropic gives you 35x and openai 70x of the api rate in tokens, you could surely call that ROI just not the type they want for their IPO
hangrybear666··on Claude: Elevated errors across all models – Resolved
It would only make sense to me if Jensen Huang had hand delivered me some glue to sniff prior to reading the comment. Otherwise no chance.
hangrybear666··on MCP 2026-07-28 Specification: transport going stateless
To be honest I've completely ignored this feature and 95% of my colleagues at work have not interacted with it at all - we are not an AI pilled company - but this specification now seems mature enough for me to be excited about developing a server, just haven't found a concrete use case yet that isn't already publicly available.
hangrybear666··on GrapheneOS protections against data extraction from locked devices
I'm gonna trust the grapheneos HN account on this one.
hangrybear666··on It's not empowering to hand off the details
To make a meathead analogy: you all know the people in the gym who apply the strategy of least resistance by taking shortcuts, skipping the hard parts or following some hype new training regimen while forgetting about the fundamentals. None of those people look like they lift and a lot of them remain in the same shape their entire life.

Same with AI. if you use it to skip all the hard parts you will not grow and mature and waste your potential.

hangrybear666··on It's not empowering to hand off the details
As long as these tools remain for your personal use there is nothing wrong with that. The moment other people rely on them however, it would become reckless oversight to operate in that way.
hangrybear666··on The new rules of context engineering for Claude 5 generation models
Yeah anthropic essentially saying "just trust the agent bro" is the exact opposite a sane engineer with respect for their own craft should be doing.

Then add on the fact that their guardrails now block blue teams, purple teams, red teams and some people in biology and medicine from even getting answers.

I'm doing a pentesting course to learn application security in-depth, so I can secure my stack better.

Claude won't answer my questions anymore, so my sub has been canceled.

hangrybear666··on The new rules of context engineering for Claude 5 generation models
Or other models. I'd much rather have open standards to follow instead of relying on vendor lock in and features automatically enforced by one company, which are not supported by others.

A good example is the agent skills open standard which was invented by anthropic but given to the public and is followed by other vendors as well

hangrybear666··on The new rules of context engineering for Claude 5 generation models
My synopsis of this article is "just trust the agent and turn on our vendor lock in features such as auto-memory because agent is now smart where before it was dumb" Yeah I'm not going to be doing that. I'd rather manage context myself and carefully handcraft the instructions than to rely on your marketing to tell me what I should be doing.
hangrybear666··on The new rules of context engineering for Claude 5 generation models
Review fatigue is already draining my energy levels at work to a point where I've been using agents less because it's just not possible to be productive when I have to read hundreds of lines of markdown every couple minutes.

Other people might just turn to automation blindness and click OK without verifying but I refuse to just let anthropic go rampant in my codebase.

hangrybear666··on Elevated Errors for Opus 5
Maybe because they committed to buy up 40% of the world's RAM supply by themselves and completely overestimated demand.
hangrybear666··on The Fedora 45 Sausage Factory
So as a relatively fresh Fedora user (2024) who just sold their Windows PC (2025) and is in love with the OS, where would be a good place to look for areas to contribute in? Is there a place where Fedora maintainers write down what parts of the pipeline are in need of volunteers?
hangrybear666··on Claude Opus 5
It just doesn't make sense to me that Opus 5 costs the exact same as Opus 4.8, my bet is that they simply subsidize Opus 5 more comparatively so it still looks as if they are making significant progress to keep investment dollars flowing, further inflating the bubble. I might be completely wrong but I trust nothing their CEO says, he's a habitual doom troll and will say whatever makes marketing sense.
hangrybear666··on Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta warn against overregulating open-weight models
Also most people building these things are engineers and coders, what they know best is code. So naturally this aspect develops at an elevated speed. Getting non-tech experts to build a cutting edge tech product does not sound intuitively feasible.
hangrybear666··on Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta warn against overregulating open-weight models
I mean Google might just buy anthropic once it's ipo fails/never materializes
hangrybear666··on Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta warn against overregulating open-weight models
Yeah hard to imagine why people would object to rising electricity and gas bills, negative environmental impact on their area for the privilege of ultimately losing their job.
hangrybear666··on Claude Opus 5
By margin you mean how much money they're losing on each request to stay ahead of the curve while investments are still flowing?
