hamper653··on HackEurope 2026: A short rant on AI and hackathons
> I would love to know how to build a company that serves real humans rather than the accumulation of capital and the extractive nature of corporations.

Wouldn’t we all. It is not possible, actually.

> [They] simply can't understand why I'd want to interact with people they perceive as less intelligent than them.

"Who would you have me speak to instead? It’s not like I’m surrounded with geniuses anyway."

It doesn’t mean they wouldn’t accept it either, and I don’t see how that’s contradictory. As I said: more masses. I am a Christian myself, by the way.
hamper653··on The weekend is 100 years old
> It is very common for Christians to religously rest on Sunday

Precisely: Saturday is written in stone, yet Christians typically rest and worship on Sundays. If we changed that, why couldn’t we change the seven-day cadence? It’s not like the Church would object to more masses.

hamper653··on The weekend is 100 years old
Christians don’t rest on Sabbath.

Edit: I mean, we do now because of weekends. But the rest-and-worship day is supposed to be Sunday, not Saturday.

Or it could be a core cadre of 51% of clearly foolish Americans electing a vast amount of fools and putting them in the positions where they will do the most damage.

That makes no sense.

> Right. WeekEND. It's the end of the week.

This only works in English though. The rest of us use the word "weekend" as a block.

hamper653··on The weekend is 100 years old
Well, let’s rest (two days) every five days instead of seven.
hamper653··on The weekend is 100 years old
> Very curious to understand the thinking behind this, why should the weekend be E and A?

So that the extra day on leap years could be inserted in a weekend while having its own unique number.

hamper653··on The weekend is 100 years old
We should have a 5-days week: A, B, C, D, E.

Weekend would be E and A.

12 months of 6 weeks each, except "February" with an extra week.

A would always the 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 21st, 26th or 31st (in "February").

B would always be the 2nd, 7th, etc.

Leap years would have a day F inserted between E and A at the end of "February" (of which it would be the 36th), keeping this new calendar consistent with the current one.

> "Communally" and "through a big corporation making a tidy profit" are at odds.

Not really. Corporations are social by essence, and on a much bigger scale than anything that came before. That’s precisely what makes socialism possible.

> If the plan isn't to stockpile food communally through a big corporation making a tidy profit for being well prepared in a disaster, and it isn't to stockpile it personally... what is the plan?

Stockpile food communally NOT through a big corporation making a tidy profit?

I can’t help but strongly disagree with that. To me, "stately" would mean something more pragmatic and efficient.

> If you think the US is doing more harm than good, you are allowed to move and surrender your citizenship.

Actually, I have heard that it’s very hard, if possible at all, to surrender American citizenship. It’s a real problem for some people who had the misfortune of being born on American soil.
