hammerbrostime··on There is no fold
This is primarily an issue I've seen with my students' work. They haven't always internalized the issues with folds, and the need to design around them to make sure that there appears to be a continuous flow of content.

Saying something like "There is no fold" is not going to help students recognize the issue.

hammerbrostime··on There is no fold
Then I must be blind or delusional, based on what I've witnessed during usability tests.

I highly doubt we'd see the same breakdown for new users vs. return users. IE, return-users know they can scroll, new-users don't have that knowledge.

hammerbrostime··on Sprout
Wow, this makes me wish HP didn't make shit hardware.
hammerbrostime··on Design is a Search Problem [video]
True, I'm surprised I didn't put it in there
hammerbrostime··on The Story Of WatchMeCode’s Subscription Service
I'm really happy to see Derick make a real go of it - his videos have been a great resource for me in the past.
hammerbrostime··on I'm going to teach binary math to third graders tomorrow
I first read this article about ten years ago, and now I have my own daughter in third grade. I'm going to her class to do this same workshop. I can't wait!
hammerbrostime··on The Courage To Say ‘I Don’t Know’
I tend to be very upfront about what I know or dont know in the corporate world, and I've seen it bite me too many times. There are reasons why people are guarded about what they know or don't know. In an academic setting however, I never felt any serious repercussions for being transparent.
hammerbrostime··on Distribution of colors in movie posters between 1914 and 2012
Interesting to watch the color gamut open up as color printing technologies improve over time. Blue/Cyan is the hardest pigment to work with, and you can see the blue-range grow over time as the technology to support it improves.

hammerbrostime··on Google Mobile and Tablet: Introducing the Knowledge Graph
"Fact Graph" seems like a more apt name
hammerbrostime··on NCombinator
Hello, needed in NYC where there is NoCombinator.
hammerbrostime··on Buying a good domain name from a bad country
I was ambiguous on purpose, I was hoping to see how people would define it. In my case, there is a country whose country code top level domain is very appealing for my company. But it's an oppressive and totalitarian regime - it's not a country I want to be associated with, although 99.99% of people would never even know what country the domain name belongs to.
hammerbrostime··on The origins of the blink HTML element
I have to say, I find the blink tag to be quaint form of vulgar web design. I'm rather disappointed that it isn't supported by webkit. At least animated gifs still work http://www.lingscars.com/
hammerbrostime··on How To Be Happy Anywhere
I better not read the article then
hammerbrostime··on Clear: doing for To Do lists what Dropbox did for file syncing
I really can't immagine that hidden non-standard gestures ever becoming the future of interfaces. Its beautiful, but wtf how am I supposed to remember how to use it?
hammerbrostime··on What was the the most academically influential video you saw as a young child?
Ha, ok 8MM film works as well :) I think thats how I saw "Powers of Ten" originally anyways.
hammerbrostime··on What was the the most academically influential video you saw as a young child?
Here is the "Powers of Ten" video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fKBhvDjuy0
hammerbrostime··on Vi Hart and Khan Academy Join Forces [video]
Awesome, what a great combo. For those unfamiliar with Vi's work, she makes very entertaining and accessible video series called "Doodling in Math Class". Here's one of my favorites, called "Infinity Elephants" http://bit.ly/zEiugp
hammerbrostime··on The Only Marketing That Counts
Making a great app is not enough - being "featured" is not a guarantee from making a great app AND it's not sustainable, as you'll soon enough drop out of that position. You need to get on at least one "Top" list for Apple (Top Free, Top Paid, etc there are lots of these lists for different categories). However, to get there and stay there you may need to use ALL of the techniques the author tried (ads, emails, tweets, etc...). They all work together, and should work something like a symphony.
hammerbrostime··on Django CMS hosted service
Well, I'm curious enough to want to see them give it a shot.
hammerbrostime··on 101domain.com Security Breach
Hmmm... I received a different variant of the email. Nothing in my email suggested they could have accessed my financial account info.
hammerbrostime··on Get a YCNYC invite? Add yourself to this attendee list.
Does it mean anything to have received an invite at this point? Its unclear to me if everyone who requested an invite received one.

Also, with the title "YCNYC", it sounds like this is going to be a NYC based funding cycle, but all the online literature still points to the West Coast. Where are they planning on holding this funding cycle?

hammerbrostime··on How to build the world's most extraordinary town
Nope, not spam. I'm just a long time lurker.
hammerbrostime··on Stop A/B Testing and Make Out like a Bandit
Anything simple out there to make it available to the masses?
