One of the goals of this project is:

"Share the benefits of machine learning with the world"

It doesn't say who shares what :)

do we really want to get into this discussion?

whatsapp had what Facebook had ÷ 100.

halite··on Ask HN: Product Managers, how did you get there and what's your background?
This is so awesome, wasn't expecting such detailed response! I think we all have some of these flaws but having channels to have this feedback and to have open discussions without any ego or taking it personally makes the best teams. Currently I'm not in such a team but I was in past and wish to find one soon!
halite··on Ask HN: Product Managers, how did you get there and what's your background?
I think you're pointing out what can happen if PMing isn't done correctly. If you have worked with a good and skilled PM, you'll feel quite the opposite.
halite··on Ask HN: Product Managers, how did you get there and what's your background?
Were you at any organisations where they did 360° feedback? What kind of feedback did you receive from developers or designers from your team? What I'm trying to understand is how are organisations ensuring that PMs and team are not in disconnect from how things really are. I know that's a different realm but just trying to understand how did you find what to improve or learn to be a better PM?
halite··on Ask HN: Product Managers, how did you get there and what's your background?
You nailed it. The best manager I had was the one who knew everything about the project, diligently updated all KPIs and not only did normal PM work but went beyond that when needed. I still remember the day when she needed me to work on weekend, she was so apologetic came early morning to pick me from home, dropped me back and always made sure everyone in the team was satisfied. She truly embraced servant-leadership.

I might take you up on your offer to send a note. What's the best way to send you a message? I do not want to side-track or pollute this thread. Thx.
halite··on Google Web/Search History Disable Does Nothing (2014)
I periodically delete my history (https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/465?co=GENIE.Pla...) but wonder how true of a delete that is.
halite··on Ask HN: Are “expensive” Masters a scam?
That's interesting post, wonder why you didn't get comments. I don't know much about law but it does seem that where you went to school does impact your chances of where you can get hired.
halite··on Deep learning nanodegree foundation
Thanks this is useful info. I'm currently selected in that program and was wondering how's this different from that. I'm probably going to do the self-driving program this year.
halite··on Deep learning nanodegree foundation
Would you say that this program is subset of material covered in car nano-degree program?
halite··on Google Cloud is 50% cheaper than AWS
I don't think that should be a concern as both providers in theory can block or suspend your account. Maybe use a separate account for Google cloud for running world-changing-billion-user app.
halite··on Ask HN: Restarting the YC Podcast – who would be most interesting to listen to?
I'll listen if Jessica Livingston interviews.
halite··on Canada's immigration website crashes on election night
> having just aquired my canadian permanent residence after years and lots of money

Slightly off topic:

I've been through the process as well and accept the frustrations but I didn't not think the costs were unreasonable. I only had to pay CIC application fees. How was the process harrowing for you? Not defending the frustration, just curious I guess.

I hope other open source projects are watching this unfold and some good lessons learned come out of this. I don't want this to happen to Meteor!
halite··on Daydream – Google VR
This somehow remind me of Playstation home (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Home) which was a neat concept but never quite gained the momentum.
halite··on Canadian surgeons urge people to throw out bristle BBQ brushes
Why not wash grills just like regular dishes? My grills come off and once I'm done cooking, I rinse and put them in dishwasher.
halite··on Ask HN: What was your “why didn't I start doing this sooner” moment?
Can you describe the basic structure of your 3 day fast? Do you not eat anything for 3 days?

halite··on Claims of Age Bias Rise, but Standards of Proof Are High
Don't you think there's difference between reading about surgeries and performing those surgeries (Or POC surgeries :))? I do get what you are saying, not trying to be mean. What I'm saying is the effort and time commitment to do weekend apps sometime end up taking whole weekends including nights...all because we love doing this.
halite··on Claims of Age Bias Rise, but Standards of Proof Are High
> I spend time on the weekends doing projects in new technologies.

Is that weekends are for? I do that too but do wonder at times...

halite··on Jeff Dean on Large-Scale Deep Learning at Google
Blocked for me too....working from govt. office.
halite··on SurveyMonkey to Lay Off 100 and Retool Business Product
Actually not too surprised. The customer service of SurveyMonkey (and Fluid Survey that they acquired recently) is of D grade now. Getting some rudimentary information about service and internals took years. Now we are looking for other tools as my work publishes few surveys everyday. Their product has not changed in years and seems likes company is confused about the future direction.
halite··on Show HN: I recently launched a new cloud hosting company
I'm usually not opposed to trying out new services and tools but this one I'm not so sure.

For a cloud hosting company, there are few basic essentials:

* Support - live, tickets, email, phone etc.

* DevOps work

* Marketing

* Documentation

* and more...

I'd be little hesitant if everything for so called "cloud hosting" company is done by a single "I".

halite··on Show HN: Patchwork – Real-time notifications for OSS vulnerabilities
> 7. How much volume?

I think what I'm more interested in understanding is how is license enforced? Our team is responsible for facilitation of pilots and this I can see useful for those machine but these come and go every few months.
