halfimmortal··on Ask HN: Comment here about whatever you're passionate about at the moment
I'm currently passionate about the journey of becoming a full-time blogger. I was tired of working as a Head of Marketing for several years and wanted freedom of my time.

While I know how to generate relevant traffic, one of the top challenges that I've been tackling over the last couple of months is monetising the traffic. I've tried selling courses, ebooks, SaaS products through my content but I'm getting unpredictable sales once in a while. It's not been an easy journey, but it's so full-filling when I get a sale through my content. Highest of highs as well as lowest of lows. Right now, I'm just grinding with faith - this will work. 3 articles/week, non-negotiable.

Perhaps one day I will have a revenue-generating blog that surpasses my monthly salary when I was a Head of Marketing :)

halfimmortal··on Ask HN: How do you pitch yourself as a co-founder to a young startup?
Makes sense, thank you for sharing your thoughts.
halfimmortal··on Ask HN: How do you pitch yourself as a co-founder to a young startup?
That's super helpful, thank you! I'm a SaaS marketer with over 10 years experience growing SaaS companies from $500k to $5M ARR. So I can definitely add value.

I hear you that finding a co-founder is based a lot on trust over time with a person. My issue is that I've worked remotely almost all my life, so while I have built relationships with team members, it's hard to sustain those cross-border relationships over time.

halfimmortal··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (February 2021)
SEEKING FREELANCER | REMOTE

Looking for a freelancer who can help with email outreach to acquire new affiliates (take full ownership). Email me on madhav at hello bonsai dot com

halfimmortal··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?
I run a podcast where I speak to remote marketing teams from across the world - https://anchor.fm/remote-marketing. I publish an episode every 2 weeks and the podcast is entering its third year.

halfimmortal··on Covid-19 Has Affected Freelancing: A Global Survey of 1,365 Freelancers
Unpopular opinion but I feel freelancing's still safer than a full time job in the current scenario. You can charge higher & cushion yourself for an uncertain time (when it comes). Another great thing that you learn while freelancing is how to sell yourself.

It varies from industry to industry though. My opinion comes from being in tech. Could be different for events related industries - videography, photography, event planners etc.

halfimmortal··on Ask HN: Any good apps for time-zone syncing with remote colleagues?
Just came across this app called Clocker and started using it. It's really good and suits my workflow! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/clocker/id1056643111?mt=12

Yeah, most times those working hours in GCal are pretty outdated. Slack showing local time is meh. Prolly better if they show this person is 6 hours ahead of you or 4 hours behind you.

Yeah, I tried it. I work 3 days a week from 9 to 5 and 2 days I'm available from 7am to 11pm. I can't seem to set up these kind of settings in Calendly. Is it possible?
halfimmortal··on Ask HN: Do you keep a personal knowledge repository?
I use Google Keep and add all my personal learnings under a common label - <name> Wiki. Google Keep has excellent search capabilities too so easy to find what you're looking for.
halfimmortal··on Ask HN: Non-VC backed founders, any tips on growth?
Search for Steli Efti on Youtube - got some brilliant videos on getting started with sales.
halfimmortal··on Ask HN: Is there a new habit you cultivated recently that is really paying off?
Become more approachable and proactively try to strike up conversations with strangers. I've been working remotely for 5 years and felt the need to have a social circle. I didn't have work colleagues who I could meet up on a Friday night or do exciting stuff with. I realised I had to build my social life through unconventional means and also make myself more outgoing (and be okay with rejection if a stranger doesn't want to talk).

This habit has been incredibly powerful because a year since I took this resolution, I have a fairly interesting bunch of people I've met who I'm also in touch with. I found a friend who I could talk about work with (my industry), a friend who goes out with me for gigs, a friend who regularly hosts parties and makes me meet new people. Recently, I started talking to someone in my coworking space, asked her out on a date and she & I have been dating for a little over a month. It's truly wonderful if you make yourself more approachable and also make the effort to go talk to that stranger.

halfimmortal··on Ask HN: Advice to your younger self
Why spend more years being single? I'm in my twenties and hate being single.
halfimmortal··on Ask HN: What to do if you hate working for someone else and arent an entrepreneur?
My 2 cents to everyone here: nowhere in the discussion did I hear of setting hourly rate based on the value you're bringing to the company. It's all about how much the other company was paying you and how much more you're worth now. It's good to be ambitious, but as a freelancing consultant - think about the value you're bringing for the client. Set your rates based on that. You bring X value, company gets 10X benefit.

Ah thanks for pointing that out, I'll change it.
halfimmortal··on Startup Analytics: Why and How We Use Mixpanel
Haha same here! I agree, Mixpanel should change a new user's default notification settings. But I think outside of that, it's a pretty neat tool.
