hajderr··on WhatsApp gives users an ultimatum: Share data with Facebook or stop using app
I'm not sure it matters. You still have to agree to the policy first. Whether you have an FB account at the moment might change for you in the future right? So FB couldn't be handling all those cases as well. This is a strategic move I think will cover all users.

What happened to Telegram?
hajderr··on WhatsApp gives users an ultimatum: Share data with Facebook or stop using app
New apps on the rise!
hajderr··on Google told its scientists to ‘strike a positive tone’ in AI research

hajderr··on Dan's online motorcycle repair course (1999-2020)
Really! It's like a recommendation yet it's not. Just looking to get my first MC! How did this popup in my feed? :D
hajderr··on Ask HN: Do you know any company likely to beat Facebook?
Ye sure. Remember Myspace and Altavista?

"We didn't see it coming" is a famous phrase :D.

Maybe not a tech competitor but gradually when people start to realise the privacy violations and wake up from the bubble, new generations etc will break FB hegemony.

hajderr··on Google employees are free to speak up, except on antitrust
The Google Caliphate
hajderr··on I no longer build software
In physical work you have a natural outlet for that stress. Confining everything to your upper body, and even one part of it (the head) is gonna cause even more stress.
hajderr··on Ask HN: What do you do to enhance/protect your privacy online?
Thanks, too bad this topic was severely down rated so I'm not sure this will get more comments :)
hajderr··on Running Linux on My MacBook
Yup, Never ever would I try this. A running pc laptop is a much smarter choice.

I guess so, like everything comes with pros and cons you know
hajderr··on 92 of top 500 subreddits controlled by same 5 people
Reddit is good and reflects people inner attitudes. You just don't get to see that in real life so be happy about someone exposing them on the web
hajderr··on Uber is laying off 3,700, as rides plummet due to Covid-19
So now I can ride my bicycle
hajderr··on Inkscape 1.0
Is this good for professional work, Illustrator seems more solid? Great FOSS still though
hajderr··on Are Ideas Getting Harder to Find?
Good ideas that are beneficial, yes. However, there are a lot of less optimal solutions for the human race out there, some are even in production, e.g. tracking people, social media
hajderr··on Our data centers now work harder when the sun shines and wind blows
Hope they crash some day too so you can stop tracking people :). How long does it take until this get -votes
hajderr··on Adult immune systems ‘remember’ germs to which they’ve never been exposed (2013)
How is this relevant? I'm not into this field. The article is only from 2013. So I can only relate it to Covid-19.

Thankful for any response

hajderr··on 'Nature is taking back Venice': wildlife returns to tourist-free city
How effective is that, I am wondering? My concern is that any tax that ends up as a cost will affect passengers and higher prices. Will that stop people from flying more? I dont' know. I know too little about this.

But you know and what you think is silly may be effective and better in the long run. We need more 'silly' ideas in order to find a good one. In contrast, you can't have unlimited flights either, where the toughest and most powerful airline can fly the most just because they can cope with high taxes. That would only favour the big airlines.

We see that this virus has been really effective in lowering emissions. We're talking about changing human behavioural patterns deep within, I don't think taxes can create such a strong force.

What do you mean by trade system? Not sure I understand that.

hajderr··on 'Nature is taking back Venice': wildlife returns to tourist-free city
This makes me...upset...and glad. As if it takes a virus to realise and change behaviour.

Edit: another upside was mentioned earlier in the CO2 drop. Will we in the future see politicans limiting number of aircrafts / year?

hajderr··on China bans consumption and trade of wild animals

hajderr··on Ask HN: Which code collaboration website could you recommend?
thanks a bunch! :D
hajderr··on Don't forget randomness is still just a hypothesis (2006)
In relation to religion, this is interesting too, the Big-bang that happened 'randomly' could also be explained as a series of cause and effects. On another note, also a miracle according to scripture, could be a series of cause and effects fast-forwarded basically.
hajderr··on Python Is Eating the World
I've not written that many heavy applications in Python (Java mostly). I do like the dynamic nature of it. I find myself leaning more towars dynamic these days, appreciating Javascript today as well. I like the v.env side of Python. Many languages have this plumbing to get a project started and Python is the most comfortable of them all. Python is smart. Python is easy to teach also.
hajderr··on Ask HN: Do you think a Google subscription business model would work?
Sure, anything else than 'free'
hajderr··on Ask HN: Do you think a Google subscription business model would work?
I would consider paying. I don't mind Google selling ads, just don't do it while tracking users.
