hacksonx··on “It's The Future”
Read it and passed it around to the guys at the office and I can tell you that it goes beyond the Heroku v Docker debate. For us, here at some kind of bank development shop it is about languages and frameworks. I would advice that you read the whole thing. Pretty funny I must add.
hacksonx··on Car Thieves Arrested After Using Laptop and Malware to Steal More Than 30 Jeeps
Yep. It just has malicious intent, but that's the intent.
hacksonx··on Verizon nears deal to acquire Yahoo
That $1.1Bilion price tag paid for Tumblr is just over 10% of the indicated price tag. Maybe Tumblr are also good for something.
hacksonx··on Inside the PocketCHIP, a $49 Portable Linux Computer
If anything this is the way mobile devices should be going. LG's modular design and Google Arya? Is it, are doing something like this but in what I feel is too controlled. Here I feel like I can just hook up one of the $2 light sensors I have for my arduino and hack a quick light sensor app, deploy and enjoy quickly. True modularity I feel.
hacksonx··on 99 Bottles of OOP
The intro sold the book to me but I'm a bit reluctant to buy it because of the fact that it uses Ruby. I've just started working with Java (straight from University last year) and I've come to realise that in comparison to other OO languages which have evolved their syntax (C# & Python) Java hasn't. I doubt it'll help me with Java. I've already invested in a few books and test engines, mainly for my Oracle certifications.
hacksonx··on Caddy 0.9 Released with All New Core
I would refer you to this https://caddyserver.com/docs/faq for a detailed break down of that. The second points answers your question with the stand out point for me being that Candy focuses on use for static files. Also, it serves all pages via HTTPS by default.
hacksonx··on See the things you’ve searched for, visited, and watched on Google services
Interesting that you say that. I've seen Google to suggest some interesting and relevant information in the last few years. I use a Windows phone now so I can't comment on Google Now since the desktop/browser version didn't really take off.

I have my calendar and email setup on my phone with contacts sync also enabled. When I get to work I have one of those pinned tabs on chrome set to inbox and all my searches on my phone and laptop are on Google. Adblocker is installed on my laptop so I never see ads there but after searching for property and a bed for the last few weeks, the ads I seem to be getting on my mobile browser point to just that. I've actually ended up buying a couple of items online because of google's suggestions (GPU, cellphone, gas heater, etc). So I think it depends on how much data you feed it and how you feed it. As for suggested places to visit, I can't comment much since I don't use that feature.

hacksonx··on Show HN: WeatherTunes — The right tunes for right now
Web version would be great.
hacksonx··on UK votes to leave EU
I could be wrong but even the French are still a monarchy. In fact the only case of a dissolved monarchy I've read of lately is the Spanish monarchy.
hacksonx··on Ask HN: How do you install developer tools on a fresh system?
I'm one of those guys with an install.sh file that I got from my mentor. I just run it on every new install. Last time being when I installed Ubuntu 16.04.
hacksonx··on Doctors Without Borders doesn't take money from EU anymore
South Africa has received a huge influx of refugees overs the years from Zimbabwe, Mozambique & Nigeria. Even though the "people" have protested this and asked for the foreigners to be deported (Legal/Illegal) the government has not done that to humans. How a 3rd (2nd?) world country is able to accommodate people of such numbers while 1st world countries in Europe complain is beyond me.
hacksonx··on Facebook is wrong, text is deathless
Am I the only one who stops reading an informative English article when the word "because" is used to begin a sentence? Maybe text does deserve to die.
hacksonx··on Mint UI – Mobile UI Elements for Vue.js
Plus one on material design and bootstrap. I've found that I'm able to churn out releases quicker since there isn't much learning. I just include two/three lines at the top & I'm good to go.
hacksonx··on Apple-sans-adjectives – A font that redacts Apple-esque superlatives from text
Ctrl+shift+v maybe?
hacksonx··on This Web App Verifies and Matches Your Doctors Without Borders Donations
I already make monthly donations. Do you match those too?
hacksonx··on Open Handset Alliance
How much can this contribute towards hardware prices? Even makers that were meant to be low cost at birth are now priced in the same region as mid to premium makers.
hacksonx··on Show HN: New calendar app idea
Selecting a calendar allows you to access checkboxes that allow you to disable/enable subcalenders such as national holidays, birthdays and the main calendar.
hacksonx··on WhatsApp is back online in Brazil
Just tried it with a couple of guys at the office, seems it is only blocked on Android. It works on WhatsApp web, Windows phone and on the iPhone.
