A provocative headline, I'm aware of that. I'm sure this will be flagged within minutes. But where is Silicon Valley's outrage about this obviously discriminating app? From all those public figures who claim to support gender equality, diversity and inclusiveness?

Marc Benioff tweeted many times in favour of gender equality. (1) Still, Salesforce ventures invested in Ellevest's serie A.

RE:runesoerensen

I think I have something new to say, at least here on HN: the overwhelming double standards of SV types claiming to love gender equality, inclusiveness, and claiming to hate discrimination.

Great work. You could add Impraise and Gitlabs to the Netherlands.

The unethical behaviour of OkC needs to be pointed out again.

haaen··on Launch HN: VergeSense (YC S17) – AI-Powered Sensors for Building Management
TechCrunch previously wrote about VergeSense. See my post:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14947275

Tried to change the title of that post to:

VergeSense’s (YC S17) AI sensing hardware wants to reduce the usage of office space

but HN didn't let me add (YC S17)

haaen··on Launch HN: CocuSocial (YC S17) – Marketplace for cooking classes at restaurants
Sam Altman once said that YC only accepts applicants if they have the potential to become billion dollar companies.

What is CocuSocial's growth path to 9 zero's?

There seems to be a high demographic correlation between users and stock owners. If the users of a company's priduct are roughly the same group as its stock owners, I think it provides a positive outlook for the company's share price.

haaen··on Peter Thiel won’t be involved in YC’s work with the ACLU
Sad that Katrina Manalac was wrong twitter about Peter Thiel.

He IS a YC partner, although part time. She tweeted: Thiel isn't a YC partner.

haaen··on Peter Thiel won’t be involved in YC’s work with the ACLU
Manalac could have said that Thiel is a part time partner.

haaen··on Can Psychiatry Turn Itself Around?
Theodore Dalrymple (a retired prison psychiater from England) wrote a book about how psychiatry undermines morality. It is called 'Admirable Evasions' (1). One of the things he notes: many people call themselves depressed nowadays. Few people call themselves unhappy.

haaen··on Moving Forward on Basic Income
Based on your tweet about 2 hrs ago, you seem to be in favor of equality of opportunity. What's your opinion about about parents who want to give their children the best opportunities in life?
haaen··on Moving Forward on Basic Income
Government fails in most areas. I agree with your point about administration costs, but don't you think politicians will come up with other things that they can spend the saved money on?
haaen··on Moving Forward on Basic Income
Anyone is free to work as hard or as much as he or she wants - of course, this is not about the ill and the disabled - as long as she doesn't come to the tax payer for extra money.
haaen··on Moving Forward on Basic Income
First of all, not everyone should work. Be it a child that lives off of his parents' money, a stay at home mom whose bills are paid by her husband, or a young, poor but promising artist who lives in an apperment from his mecenas.

BI is immoral (imho of course) because people get paid for doing nothing. It sends a message to society: laziness pays.

haaen··on Moving Forward on Basic Income
Of course there will always be people who cannot work. But the point is, BI is a basic income for anyone. No strings attached, Here's OPM, even for people who could make a living without BI. Strikes me as a waste of taxpayer's money?
haaen··on Moving Forward on Basic Income
I dindn't say that.
haaen··on Moving Forward on Basic Income
The YCR statement says:

"We think everyone should have enough money to meet their basic needs—no matter what, especially if there are enough resources to make it possible."

Why give free money to people who are too lazy to work?
