h43k3r··on This AI Boom Will Also Bust
I love that idea but I think we should be more social in person than electronically. I would better go out with someone on a run or a walk than this but again I would love that for sometime
h43k3r··on This AI Boom Will Also Bust
Game consoles will/should come with VR headsets. My point of view is daily normal consumption.

I wouldn't wear an Oculus while I am home sitting on my SOFA with my family members and not many people play games especially considering third world countries like India. VR would have its place but not to the likes of smartphones.

h43k3r··on This AI Boom Will Also Bust
A little off topic but I think the VR boom will bust much more sooner than AI.

I can't think of normal people wearing those heavy gears in their normal life. There will be its use cases in specialized applications like education, industry, games but I don't think it will get popular like an iPhone.

AR is still OK since it augments real life but there is a long way before it will become mainstream.

h43k3r··on India's demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes
It is. To get new notes, you will have to submit the old notes to the bank. In that case, you will have to declare the money to the Income Tax department. And if the sum is huge, a criminal enquiry will be started by IT department.

Also this will at once curb all the fake note issues.

h43k3r··on India's demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes
For international readers: Rs 500 and Rs 1000 are the highest denominations notes in India. Other available denominations are Rs 100, 50, 20, 10. This is such a major move to curb black money in the history of Indian Politics and Economy

h43k3r··on Rant HN: I hate hackerrank
I have met many people in my life who are/were way better than me in chalking out algorithmic solutions but didn't even had a single bit of knowledge how computers and real softwares work. Many of these people are not good team players, don't understand the importance of delivering things, or simply aren't interested in the work they are doing.

On other side, I have also met many people who are extremely good at competitive programming and extremely good at their workplaces also.

So taking these two as suppositions, I have concluded that competitive programming skill is not something which can't be relied upon as a judgement factor for a good candidate.

Note- I once used to be a good competitive programmer during my college so I have seen both sides of it.

h43k3r··on Interview with Steve Wozniak
This talk[1] of Woz at Google is one of my favorites and motivated me a lot to learn engineering in a diligent way. His love for electronics and engineering is evident from the way he talks about it.

h43k3r··on Mistakes Beginners Make When Working with Databases
Can you point me to some docs that explain this ?
h43k3r··on Partnering with Microsoft to run Jenkins infrastructure on Azure
Yes it is. but I can easily zoom and then read it easily
h43k3r··on Show HN: Phone verification at no cost
This seems interesting. Do you know of any app currently using this. I would like to quickly try it out before the hassle of setting it up myself.
h43k3r··on Ted Cruz Ends His Campaign for President
What Trump says feels safe and good to most of the people.

The human mind is lazy and doesn't want to think much if its gets satisfied easily unless you force it to do. But how many people actually put their mind while thinking about politicians. We just make conclusions from the things that we want and pleases ourselves.

h43k3r··on Ask HN: How do you promote your personal blog posts?
HN Link: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11518502
h43k3r··on How I hacked my local ISP and some general learnings
I am stuck with this ISP because I have paid them in advance and there was no written agreement saying its 50 GB. I have just 3 more months left. I would then switch to something else.
h43k3r··on Ask HN: How do you promote your personal blog posts?
I try to write original content but still a long way till I reach the Hacker News level. LinkedIn looks great for non-technical posts though. I also have a huge network on LinkedIn.
h43k3r··on Aria2: CLI downloader for HTTP, FTP, torrents, metalinks
Aria2 is great.

I also used Axel[1] a lot (its lightweight) during my college days where we were behind an http proxy and increasing the number of connections would result in increased download speeds.

h43k3r··on The text/markdown media type
Is it right now to expect browsers to render markdown file natively?
h43k3r··on Exploring Rust (from C#)
A quick solution could be to host the page as a static page and have a nginx route serve that page.
h43k3r··on Exploring Rust (from C#)
This is offtopic but what should be size of the VM to handle HN's front page traffic. I know a lot of it depends upon whether the website is static or is backed by DB and on various different factors. But many a times some of my friends ask me questions like this.

To make it simple, lets take 2 very basic websites.

1. A ghost blog. (node.js) 2. A wordpress blog backed by a mysql db. (php)

h43k3r··on HTTP/HTTPS not working inside your VM? Wait for it
After reading this post, my understanding is that it doesn't affect normal machines or vms only the ones which are VMWare based. Am I right?

Also does anyone know what is the reason behind this peculiar behavior? A bug or something more fundamental ?

h43k3r··on Show HN: Honest Salary – Help make salaries fair and honest by sharing yours
Just to add: You can use https://letsencrypt.org/ for free HTTPS certs.
h43k3r··on Lee Sedol Beats AlphaGo in Game 4
The post match conference analysis with Lee Sedol and the CEO of deepmind about the different aspects of the game is beautiful to watch. There seems to be a sense of sincerity rather than the greed to win from each of the side.
h43k3r··on One Man's Journey to Eat and Train Like the Rock for 30 Days
One thing that I have learnt is the amount of protein one needs to take if you are working out heavily is immense.

If you are a pure vegetarian(like many Indians), its very difficult to complete your daily protein intake if you are not eating eggs or drinking some high protein content shakes.

h43k3r··on Show HN: Start a pair programming session over WebRTC by just sharing a link
It is just showing connecting with my own video at the right top corner. I think something is wrong. I am on the latest chrome.

Getting these errors in dev console. Could not open document: [object Object]

h43k3r··on To Prevent Back Pain, Orthotics Are Out, Exercise Is In
Any good link for the back exercises? I do aerobics regularly, play football 3 hours a week and hit gym twice a week. I still feel sometimes that I need a more stronger back.
h43k3r··on WebTorrent – BitTorrent over WebRTC
Even in big cities in India people only have 1 or 2 GB per monthly limit on their broadband connection for their PCs.

It would be better to use a manual approval rather than a automated detection.

When I visit youtube, I know that the video is going to start immediately but that wasn't the case with this.

h43k3r··on List of the Most Popular MOOCs
Also look at the sudoku solver code by peter norvig on his website. He explains it in a very simple way for a beginner and his code is short and simple.

h43k3r··on New Windows 10 Devices From Microsoft
The detachable part is very important if you are buying a touch screen laptop. I have a $1800 lenovo x1 carbon which has a awesome touchscreen which I rarely use because it doesn't support tablet/detachable mode.
h43k3r··on New Windows 10 Devices From Microsoft
It is fine after sometime. Just wait for 5-10 seconds to load the 360 degree viewer.
h43k3r··on Tesla Model X Launch event, livestream
I have watched Google IO, WWDC etc many times. Speaker come and speak fluently about a teeny tiny feature for half an hour.

Elon on the other side is plain and direct. The halts and the roughness actually makes me more attentive because of the change.
