gumbo··on 3 Weeks already, $0 income – what are we doing wrong?
To respond to those asking why I made YET another sudoku game... Well, ... As I explained here : http://www.buildnrun.com/sudoku-as-an-arcade-whould-you-play...

This game is in the pipeline since a few month now (I made few mistakes by not being lean) but I wanted before the end of the year get it out and see how it's really look like to be out there in the wild. And YES it is out, and I'm not feeling like throwing it, so I need to see what I can make out of it.

There are very good piece of advice bellow though.

Thanks. I'll definitely work on that, I'll be able to remove few of them even if it mean removing features.
gumbo··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (January 2013)
Thanks you. Just sent you an email.

looking forward to have a chat.

gumbo··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (January 2013)
Hi. I want to contact you regarding the available positions? What is the preferred way to contact you? you haven't provided any email.

Thanks.

gumbo··on Twitter is the Benjamin Button of startups.
Who remenber Color raising 41M for craps? I remember back then someone saying: "They invested in the team, that still make me laugh. They funded smart people, now they have enought cash to build something that will make money". I'm looking forward to seing this.

Twitter is such a disapointment for me and i'm looking forward too to see their first profitable year.

gumbo··on On Living Below Your Potential
Hi. I really appreciated this piece of work. Would you mind sharing the full version with us?

Thanks.

gumbo··on I feel like downvote is a censure
Thank you for the advice. I'll do my best next time.
gumbo··on I feel like downvote is a censure
Sure it is. It is not the first time i get downvote for just expressing my humble opinion.

By the way, i'm not here by any mean to count my karma. However it is frustracting to see people act this way.

I don't think down vote = don't like. It is not there so you can downvote whenever you don't like a statement.

Just my thoughts.

gumbo··on I feel like downvote is a censure
I think think it make sense. I will definitly downvote someone who publish craps even if i also loose a point when it make sense.
gumbo··on Anonymous releases stolen Symantec source code
I've gone throught the email conversation, i feel like they didn't really just wanted the money. A blackmailer don't just ask:

"SO  - you told us a week ago that you've being requesting a    response from Fin dprtmnt. We got no answer for the below question    so far:            ?How much do you consider ENOUGH to pay us in order to            work all the issues out?

"

He know what the value of what he got.

gumbo··on Show HN: Cron.io - Sharing a by-product. Should this be a full service?
The same here. Can i "inspire" from this for the documentation if my next Rest api ?.

Great job, keep it up.

gumbo··on If you're using Node.js, you're doing life wrong
Please give me a break. This guy made some points: spaghetti code, .... He state it in the wrong way, however one should admit that node.js is not mature enougth for many use cases. I'm still learning but, haven't seen how just by using node.js you get a scalable server.
gumbo··on Tim O'Reilly: Really, Google is evil now? Let's Get Real. How About Apple?
Sure, pulling the industry is not the rigth way to go anyway.

I think that the population of china don't help... more than a billion.

I think that the world population is really the big issue of this century.

gumbo··on Tim O'Reilly: Really, Google is evil now? Let's Get Real. How About Apple?
Disgusting, have you listen to this http://www.thisamericanlife.org/play_full.php?play=454

I swear, nearly had tears in my eyes. I'm not proud anymore to be part of this machine (we build iphone/mac apps).

We are fighting SOPA, anyone who care enough to fight this fight.

Any idea of what we can do?

gumbo··on Gemfury A/B testing their landing page
this is of low taste, i'm impressed with the ability of people to try to use any situation. And using the DHH pic is really lame.
gumbo··on Apology to 37signals
Just went through the whole thread on twitter, and now i see that it is #curebit that tried to dig their own grave.

Nevertheless let learn the lessons and move forward, inspire don't steal.

gumbo··on Apology to 37signals
I think DHH did it the wrong way, it is such an arrogant reaction. it is not like Curebit is a concurrent or something like that so they could have just sent an email asking remove the elements.

That's been said, but if this embarrassing event help someone to never ever steal elements again then it's is a goo thing.

gumbo··on Apology to 37signals
I stumble upon stolen graphics so much time, when a company is not able to create an original landing page, how one can expect that company to create something more complex. This is not to say curebit won't succeed, but as one said "we are in a hard world" and people are looking where you succeed but also where you fail. I hope this mistake will be the last one until the go bigger otherwise i'm afraid the won't be forgiven one more time.
gumbo··on New (revolutionary?) solution for Java memory leak discovery: Plumbr explained
Can you explain the downvote.... what the hell, i know i could have been commented better, but this is not a reason to downvote.
gumbo··on New (revolutionary?) solution for Java memory leak discovery: Plumbr explained
Not so revolutionary to me. Won't use such a tool. Smart programming/peer reviewing is the way to go.
gumbo··on Ask HN: What mac apps are essential for GTD?
OmniFocus is the best one yet.
gumbo··on How U.S. Lost Out on iPhone Work
They say the iPhone would be expensive... If they were to tell the truth they would said: our profit margin won't be so high.
gumbo··on Ask HN: Who is actually doing something with "Big Data"?
big data is not really a technology, it is just a term to refer to the fact that when you have "too much data" to deal with you can't do it the usual way.

Now to come back to the point of your question: often when people says "Big data", they are referring to the fact they use "some" technologies suited for "big data" like NoSQL database.

gumbo··on The dilemma that Twitter has given new startups
I agree with you, building around someone else idea is risky as you may end up competing with the api owner. However there is so much advantage to it. Building a service around twitter make you confident in having an established user base that mzy adopt your product. it is all about weigth the risk/advantages.

To talk about twitter in particular, i think twitter is the worst developer friendly API provider i've found so far.

Our product is all about building a service around twitter, and the product can't be built without access to their Beta site API. We've quested an access to the API so much time since at least 2 months and we haven't get even an email explainning why we can't have access to it and providing us with some insigth about the tie we'll be able to access it. Can one work for months on a product without being sure he will be able to release it? As a result we are thinking about leaving twitter as a host platform even thught it is the best one for our products.

gumbo··on Why Dropbox is dangerous
Reading this thread somehow pissed me off. The concerns of this guy are legitimate, I think that some Delphic employee should be there to answer such enquiries even with a simple kindly excuse. Letting your users respond help but I feel like this guy will simply cancel his account and advice all his friends to not use it.
gumbo··on YC s11 Rejected Applicants: This is the real test.
I definitely agree with this. If you applied to YC to have your project validated by @pg and associates. Then you should think twice about your real motivations. Only close shop when you're sure your idea is not a good one or that you KNOW that you're not able to achieve it.
gumbo··on YC s11 Rejected Applicants: This is the real test.
For some reason the rejection has bumped my productivity. I've produced so much today than I haven't done since months now. I guess the rejection made me feel like I don't need help, Start-up is about business and if for some reasons* YC feel like our idea don't worth investing in (I doubt it) or maybe we are not good enough to execute then it's up to us to prove the contrary.
gumbo··on Dropbox authentication: insecure by design
The problem is that in today world people tend to be alarmist: There is rare case where data is perfectly safe or at least just an app can't make a SYSTEM secure. Notice the upercase: it is the whole system that need to be secure. If the system is compromised, then there is nothing an app can do.
gumbo··on If you applied to YC this cycle, please put your email address in your profile
i Guess i need to go home and have some sleep (already 9pm). Can't stay there waiting for that email. I guess, i'll wake up in the night to work on the product: a way to say to myself, getting the interview is not the end, finishing those damn map-reduce jobs is :-)
gumbo··on Ask HN: Y Combinator summer pre selection
Finger crossed. Nevertheless, as they said: no one should take it personnaly and it make me think of something i've read a few days ago on HN : "Stop Panhandling your Ideas": http://bennesvig.com/post/4363890591/stop-panhandling-your-i...

If you trust your idea, you just need to go, you don't need someone to validate your idea. However YC is definitly an opportunity for any start-up with a good product to have enought attention to get started.

Again finger crossed.
