guelo··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
Silicon Valley and other venture backed enterprises also regularly dump into various markets without consequences.
guelo··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
He's not threatening. Demand is exploding and supply just can't keep up.
guelo··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
He's not prioritizing high prices. Demand is exploding and supply can't keep up. Everybody in the world that can is already trying to ramp up production.
guelo··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Huh? The target variable is revenue.
guelo··on Suits Are Better Tech Than Modern Clothes
I have a friend in his 30s that always wears a suit, to work, to the club, to hanging with friends. He is one of the more successful people I know as far as both quick career climbing and getting phone numbers of women he approaches.
guelo··on 10-year Treasury yield climbs above 5.3% to a level not seen in 24 years
It's weird how the discussion on this rarely mentions Trump's giant 2017 and 2025 tax cuts, plus the insane increase in military spending. Somehow it's always about we need to cut entitlements.

People need to study this graph https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/FYFSD and think about what changed when.

guelo··on Gemini 4 Argon
For some of us OpenAI is already the new Google. I prefer chatgpt even when I'm searching for web links. Google Search had already been deteriorating terribly even before the rise of LLMs.
guelo··on Musk, the Movie
It's political speech. If they own and censor all the marketing and distribution channels do we really have free speech?

guelo··on Musk, the Movie
This is so worrying. All the evil billionaires banding together means democracy is in grave danger.
guelo··on Musk, the Movie
I get annoyed by this type of comment because Musk is obviously an over the top hype man, he sees this as his job. And he has a long history of crazy predictions that didn't come true. Any other CEO spouts some obvious marketing bs and people are appropriately cynical but Musk's defenders just really want to believe.
guelo··on Ten lines of code that changed my world
Pulling my copy of K&R from the shelf, it introduces the hello world program with

The first program to write is the same for all languages:
    Print the words
    hello, world
Suggesting that this was already an established tradition when the book was written in 1978
guelo··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
Who should I trust, the extremely political Trump white house that never misses a chance to create division and attack perceived enemies. Or the scientists and even US intelligence agencies that disagree with each other and continue to debate the topic?
guelo··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
I think the reason covid became politicized is the same individualistic vs communitarian tension in all other american politics.

Individualistic: vaccines don't help the young
Communitarian: vaccinating everybody creates herd immunity that protects the community

Individualistic: Masks don't protect the wearer
Communitarian: Masks reduce the virus the wearer breathes out reducing the harm to others
On ivermectin Rogan was just wrong.

On lab-leak, Rogan pushed it hard based only on circumstantial evidence while Fauci thought natural spillover was more likely but didn't rule out lab leak. I don't think we'll ever know for certain.

guelo··on The mystery animal on an ancient god's head
They already had a jackal god in Anubis which is represented without the weird down slopping snout and squared ears.
guelo··on MiMo-v2.6-Pro: Intelligence, Performance and Price Analysis

guelo··on Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?
The problem is the scummy adsense ads don't hurt Google's reputation. Outside the techie crowd people don't know the ads are from Google.
guelo··on We must pace the frontier
If we could agree on that, no LLMs connected to robot factories, that would be a great place to start regulation. Though 1) I don't think we could agree on that 2) it's already well under way 3) we have extremist anti-regulation ideologues in control of american government.
guelo··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
This is just not true. In the olden times (pre-claude) devs were constantly asking to do full rewrites of legacy code. This kind of project is exactly the kind of work I've trained for and have loved to do for the last 15 years as a mobile dev.
guelo··on More questions about whether researchers can trust OpenAI with unpublished math
Bad analogy. OpenAI spent millions on compute to get their result. This is more like if a billionaire heard of your promising mathematical lead and then gathered hundreds of top mathematicians to work on it.
guelo··on GPT-6 Astra
It could be a good theoretical physicist. Actually it could be a good experimental physicist as well since senior experimental physicists use grad students for the manual labor.
guelo··on OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra on ARC-AGI-3
What does having value or interest to you have to do with intelligence?
guelo··on OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra on ARC-AGI-3
Their input and output interfaces are too different from human's and they're not nearly as smart to take our IQ tests, but both dolphins and octopuses can solve complex puzzles tailored for their environment. Those puzzles are the whole reason scientists know that dolphins and octopuses are more intelligent than other animals.
guelo··on FBI Probes Service Selling 153M+ Drivers Licenses

guelo··on US sanctions Italian hosting provider Autistici Inventati
Willy-nilly terrorist designation serving as an anything-goes legal loophole is an import from Israel. It goes against all American and British legal traditions and it needs to die.
guelo··on Remote workers report the highest well-being in study of 7,700 employees
You also share a professional social network which is something you own separately from any company and I have found to be very valuable and strengthened by in-person work.
guelo··on OpenAI’s head of ethics leaves less than a year after joining
I hate this attitude that ethics and philosophy are "bullshit jobs". At the same time Americans hate any government regulation and are in the process of tearing government's regulatory capacity apart. So all we're left with is the greediest people in the world throwing a nuclear bomb into the machinery of society and everybody else throwing up their hands hoping we're not headed to a The Terminator type future.
guelo··on Can Intel finally beat ARM on performance per Watt?
Or don't swap it and live without the jack. But I have never seen a broken 3.5mm port but I've seen many, many broken or flaky USB-C ports.
