guard-of-terra··on My Venezuela Nightmare: A 30-Day Hunt for Food in a Starving Land
Nobody got 2-3 generations in their position, I think they could only aim for a half generation of high-ish birthrate. That's what USA got, and it was arguably less urbanized to begin with.

They'll still have massive debt and huge costs of security and investments in freshly acquired "lebensraum". Honestly I think they'll crumble anyway.

You did not start a store in the USSR, period.

That was one out a few countries where all business was tightly state-owned.

You could grow some radishes and sell them at farmer's market, but that's it.

guard-of-terra··on My Venezuela Nightmare: A 30-Day Hunt for Food in a Starving Land
As we know today, Germans never had any manpower to make use of much lebensraum. They were at Peak German at that time, after which their birth rate declined dramatically. They won't have the men to settle any of those lands they were supposed to colonize.

Anyway, USSR lost the most lives fighting Germany and gained least benefits out of that. Just check:

> in the 1930s, Russia was surging ahead and industrializing

It (The USSR) was also busy having famines that claimed millions of lives. Because it was too busy selling gold and wheat to buy industry from Americans (that's who built all those plants).

I think I'd skip an industrialization like that.

guard-of-terra··on How a Quest by Elites Is Driving ‘Brexit’ and Trump
"screw over a bunch of desperately poor people a world away"

We don't owe them very much, we don't have jurisdiction over them and we certainly can't help them all.

For any value of we.

Maybe it's better to create jobs "a world away"? If it's a genuine concern.

I don't think they're dependent on the UK's membership of the EU that much.

First, there's plenty of people not from EU who participate in European research on European grants. Think Russians in CERN and so on.

Second, secession from EU doesn't mean freedom of travel will be thwarted for scientists. UK was already not on Schengen, so what? At worst they'll have get a visa every few years.

In short, that person might consider that his son will figure it out.

Regarding "kind" - "kind" is irrational. Rational is often not kind and kind is often not rational.

guard-of-terra··on How a Quest by Elites Is Driving ‘Brexit’ and Trump
"he voted to fuck his own son over"

Now, that was both emotional and irrational.

guard-of-terra··on Micro-targeted digital porn is changing human sexuality
In my opinion, the overall quality of offering on tube sites is poor. There are hidden gems, there's a limited number of them and they aren't promoted or discovered in any way. Ratings system is useless that way.

Instead we're seeing this fetish obsession, which fills tops with videos which cater only to a subset and are still boring.

What most videos lack is passion and talent. Fetishes are an attempt to substitute passion and talent.

> No adult online content provider is going to go belly-up showing young women having sex

Actually, no. This stuff never gets old if done right. Anything else does.

guard-of-terra··on HyperTerm – JS/HTML/CSS Terminal
As a long Konsole user, I wonder if it supports unlimited logging, how it will react to 500M of console backlog, what's up with scrolling/overflow at all?

In my experience, terminal is one of the trickest to get right under extreme conditions.

What's with tabs also? :)

Where's racism here?

Irish don't like English. French don't like Germans. I don't like Armenians. Should I?

People don't like each other by default.

But the depth of this feeling is not enough to be considered racism (especially when both of us are "Caucasian") and can surely be overriden by personal experience with a given Armenian.

guard-of-terra··on German police raid homes over Facebook hate speech
Germany could recognise that genocide and be adamant with it when talking to Turks.

Every large Russian city has some monument dedicated to Soviet political prisoners.

Plus sometimes there are monuments related to more specific ethnic/politican groups if they happened to suffer at that place.

Find one about Armenians in Turkey?

guard-of-terra··on German police raid homes over Facebook hate speech
> Operation targeted 60 people accused of posting far-right content to a private Facebook group

Does "private" Facebook means what I think it means? I.e. outsiders won't see this at all? What's the problem there then? Next time they'll raid my bedroom because they don't like what goes on there?

> most of the suspects were accused of posting... xenophobic... messages

What's wrong in being xenophobic, from moral perspective? Is it now a requirement for me to avoid feeling emotions against people who I don't approve?

> "strong rise in verbal radicalism"

It's definitely easier to combat verbal xenophobes than real terrorists. First of all, they don't shoot back at you.

guard-of-terra··on German police raid homes over Facebook hate speech
I think it's wrong that you focus on Jews or any fixed identity. Globalist elites are highly polymorphic and you can't peg them like that. Just leads to endless pointless discussions.

Nevertheless, I have to share this experience: I was mildly left-liberal ten years ago, but now I'm heavily nationalistic. It's the only view point now that doesn't try to combat objective reality.

guard-of-terra··on How we're scammed into eating phony food
It's funny if you think if it. Economy of scale used to be delivering better product for cheaper.

Now it delivers worse product for more money, but in such fashion that you can't escape.

It seems that here, some regulations should put an end to their fairy tale.

guard-of-terra··on A Medical Mystery of the Best Kind: Major Diseases Are in Decline
Wooow! That's lot of lung cancer deaths, counterintuitively coupled with air pollution elimination.

I wonder how this correlates not with tobacco smoking, but especially with smoking of factory-made cigarettes? Because as I understand those contain virtually no tobacco and you end up smoking garden fertilizer-soaked paper.

guard-of-terra··on The Tunguska Event
The funniest part about the video in this article is that nobody gives a shit. I mean, look at pedestrian crossers.
guard-of-terra··on Has Physics Gotten Something Really Important Really Wrong?
Alchemy is a good example. Alchemists dabbled in chemisty but they also took for granted that chemistry has deep symbolic and semantic meaning. Figure it out and chemistry will crack.

It turned out to not be the case, time after time.

There's no inherent meaning in how substances interact. There are laws, they're consistent but devoid of any meaning, on human level.

That's why I'm deeply scetical towards any New Age-style ideas.

WTF guys, seriously? Possession of a crumb on a floor?

It's not a drug test that's faulty here.

We have immense social debt that we've got to address after all:

Make sure chronically working poor stop being poor. This is environment that breeds all kinds of radicals and fuels organized crime.

Make every crime prosecuted again. No unreported rapes please. No thieveries that get unaddressed. No corruption that gets reported in media but ends with a slap on the wrist. Right now it feels impossible because of sheer numbers of such crime. Very simple: those numbers just got to decrease to tenable levens.

Stop war on drugs and redirect effort towards real crime. Drugs can only be battled by going after their social base - poor, disgruntled, illega immingrants.

Demilitarize police and make them act as defenders again, not a privileged caste with self-interest.

Everybody got to spent time and effort on cooperating here, instead of looking the other way AND instead of radical "activism" that only increases rifts between people.

In many places migration also needs to be taken care of, because it's impossible to clean a house when its door just keeps swinging.

guard-of-terra··on Do Portia Spiders Have a Mind? (2006)
You're missing my point. My point is that evolution happens in a subset of whole population. Sometimes it goes so far that a new species are created.

So, different populations of same species are expected to have evolved different subtle traits.

I don't think that Portia too carry eggs in their fangs. Nothing points to that as I recall.

guard-of-terra··on Russia’s Duma approved some of the most repressive laws in post-Soviet history
You can take him, we no longer have need. When can you come? Better bring a truck.

Seriously tho. Did you notice a lot of Russians in Bulgaria recently? Living, buying property, being annoying? Why did you think they left Russia and come to Bulgaria? Couldn't stand the awesomness?

What Putin did all these years: spent oil dollars that suddently surged, increasing wages without caring for productivity. Invited millions of Muslim migrants from neighbouring countries while young/educated Russians were leaving. Demolished the remnants of elections system and separation of branches of governnment. He also lost Ukraine and had the best international strategy of buying allies for cash.

In Soviet Union. That's kind of a different entity (for me at least).

> in 90s

"90s" that you're referring too actually lasted around 7 years, from 1992 to 1999.

Putin is already full 17 years on his throne and there's no longer any point in blaming anybody other than himself in any shortcomings. It was enough time to do whatever he wanted. He wanted to build a kleptocracy and that he did.

> Putin has 80-90% support in the nation.

Putin says so.

> Around ~10k max in Moscow

Putin says so.

> i am writing that as liberal person

Why then are you repeating Putin's lies?

guard-of-terra··on Unpleasant Design
No, but I was once asked to buy some fireworks for them. As a matter of fact I did :)

I still don't understand why they would do that constantly and in one spot. That's weird and non-teenagery.
