gtCameron··on Amazon possibly working on new stand-alone messaging app called Anytime
What they are good at is trying a shit ton of ideas and then optimizing and doubling down on the winners. If they just "stuck to what they are good at" they would still be a small online bookstore.
gtCameron··on “Stop Zillow”
It's kind of admirable they aren't even trying to hide that they are cut out, says it right in the first paragraph.

"Realtors will lose millions in commission" is point #2. As if anyone other than Realtors would see that as a bad thing

gtCameron··on Cable TV Decline: Cord-cutting is accelerating
> Lots of people are unhappy with the NBA and their heavy focus on superstars. Ticket sales are down, and fewer people are watching it on TV as well.

That's completely false on both counts. Ticket sales are at record levels [1] and last years NBA finals broadcast had the highest ratings since 1998 [2].

gtCameron··on The Zombie-Mobile: Car brands no longer reflect differentiation
I love comments like this. "I have a random hunch about a subject I have spent 30 seconds thinking about. I bet it is correct and the regulators who have full time jobs researching this are wrong"
gtCameron··on Just doesn’t feel good
That is my experience as well. I would love to run an adblocker in blacklist mode and only punish the sites that annoy me, but I haven't found one that works that way. If anyone knows of one let me know.
gtCameron··on Stripe: Relay
Stripe and Twitter do not have the same CEO, you are thinking of Square.
gtCameron··on PayPal Launches PayPal.Me, Request Money Using Your Own Personalized URL
The first line of the linked article is "If you have a US startup called X and you don't have x.com, you should probably change your name."

Pretty sure Paypal owns paypal.com. Also pretty sure Paypal is not a startup. Not sure how this article is relevant.

gtCameron··on Blockspring: Do anything in a spreadsheet
I predict that many frustrations with IT would magically disappear if IT stopped calling everyone who doesn't know how to program morons or babies.
gtCameron··on Iowa Makes a Bold Admission: We Need Fewer Roads
Texas as roughly 5x the size of NC by landmass, and has approximately 3x the number of road miles. However, NC is more densely populated than TX. If you look at it by road mile per person they are almost identical.
gtCameron··on Iowa Makes a Bold Admission: We Need Fewer Roads
North Carolina does not have the most maintained roads of any state, they have "largest state maintained highway network in the United States."

This is a function of them choosing to maintain roads at the state level instead of the county level. If you look at road miles by state [0] regardless of the actual entity that maintains them, they are 16th.

gtCameron··on DodgerCMS – A static markdown CMS built on top of Amazon S3
You don't have to use Amazon, you can use one of the other 800 non-amazon specific static site generators that exist instead of this one. The fact that a tool doesn't accomplish the particular workflow that you would like doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.

gtCameron··on Rackspace DNS DDOS
Been dealing with this all morning, finally got all of my zones migrated to Route53, but with the amount of time it takes for DNS changes to propagate we are going to be feeling this all day.

Any advice for the future on how to add redundancy to my DNS setup? Is it as simple as maintaining Nameservers on two different providers and pointing to them both on my domain?

gtCameron··on Pay It Forward Design Bundle – 100% to Watsi
The benefit of open source software is clear: If I open source my text editor it can be made better by other people contributing to it.

I don't see the benefit of "open sourcing" high quality media assets. The expectation of a media asset is for it to be completed and then used as is, not continuously improved like a software product.

gtCameron··on Is Uber’s rider database a sitting duck for hackers?
From the article - "To take just one possible example, Uber has become particularly popular among the political class in Washington. During this year’s mid-term Congressional campaigns, Uber accounted for more than 60 percent of rides costing less than $100, according to Hamilton Place Strategies, which culled records from Federal Election Commission reports."
gtCameron··on What Xfinity Internet Data Usage Plans will Comcast be Launching?

gtCameron··on What Xfinity Internet Data Usage Plans will Comcast be Launching?
I have the same issue with a vacation home. I have Little Snitch installed on my Mac which allows me to disable Dropbox and stuff like that automatically when connected to that network. It would be great if there were a feature in iOS to treat certain wifi networks as a 4g connection and disable the app updates and other things it typically only does over wifi.
