I’d love to get laid off with a quarter+ of a year paid for.
Remote work has also made it easier to feel like you’re always on the clock and can fix and do things from home at any time.
It’s important to have a work life balance and separation of the two. Sure, some people are excellent at time management and 100% remote work is perfect for them, but most are not.
I miss having an office and seeing my colleagues face to face, getting in the conference room and white boarding through a complex problem in real time.
Remote work is fine as an option, and everyone has things to deal with every now and then that makes it easier to have the option of working from home, but I do believe a hybrid model is the best solution. Both from a collaboration point of view and social networking.
There’s a reason even 5-6 year old iPhones still work like a charm on iOS even today. The hardware is much better integrated and supported by the software.
It’s all relative and it’s important to set small achievable goals that you can increment continuously with consistent effort.
Apple just gets hardware right. Id never buy a non Apple product for my phone or laptop. They have the edge now especially more so with the latest silicon.
Vertical integration works when done right and Apple does it best.
I use old.reddit.com
The newer UI is just so much bloat.
Bring back IRC style UIs that are data rich and don’t have a million pixels of white padding cause some UX graduate thinks it looks cool.
There’s some companies that have solid process and don’t require more than 40 hours a week with the ability to advance, unfortunately most companies aren’t like that.
One mistake I’ve made that I won’t in the future is to stick my nose and fix things that aren’t really my responsibility. There’s a fine line to walk between revealing your other strengths where you can help other teams, but more often than not you end up with more responsibility and doing 2-3 other peoples work.
You have to be careful getting involved in other departments even though you can do it better than those employees and can fix urgent problems. You get stuck with more permanent responsibilities that weren’t part of your main job duties.
If a single university has a bigger endowment than the entire monetary value of produced goods and services of a country for a whole year, it gives you perspective on what that money can do when poured specifically into a single purpose (education, R&D, attracting academic talent, etc)
For nicer cuts of meat, sure, but for flank steak and such, I find it much easier to just let the meat marinate for 24-48 hours and then grill it.
My taxes went up quite a bit this year, which reflects in the monthly payment. Of course the mortgage part of it stays the same, but the overall monthly payment which includes the taxes and insurance goes up.
I can then stuff my freezer with ready to cook chicken, steak, fish, etc. I just take it out the night before to thaw in the fridge.
The markets are a curse and a blessing…
It's all software vendors or consulting companies or recruiters trying to hit me up and win our company's business by pitching how they can staff me with resources or provide some service we don't need.
I just ignore them to be honest. I'm swamped with work as it is, juggling multiple projects, and most of them offer things we're not interested in.
The worst is when I get calls on my phone from rando sales people. IDK how they got my number.
Basically a 0% chance I'd respond to any of those cold outreaches be it via email or phone.
Ghost of Kyiv ..
the IAEA has already confirmed the plant is fine
https://twitter.com/iaeaorg/status/1499562515340177416
"#Ukraine tells IAEA that fire at site of #Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has not affected “essential” equipment, plant personnel taking mitigatory actions."
I get it's a war, but I can't take the news cycle anymore. Full of unconfirmed BS. Ghost of Kyiv, Snake Island, etc.
#Ukraine regulator tells IAEA there has been no change reported in #radiation levels at the #Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant site.
anyways, the news cycle nowadays and the misinformation is insane
CNN literally reporting "Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is on fire, according to the mayor of a nearby town."
Which again, sensationalist title the plant itself is not on fire. CNN and FoxNews literally saying it's another Cherynobyl - "Fears of disaster greater than Chernobyl as Putin's forces attack largest atomic plant in Europe"
Idk man, I get it's a war and shit is serious, but the information overload of propaganda from all sides is insane and is really fucking with people's anxiety and mental state.
Your only option is to escalate to a higher tier support engineer or manager to resolve the issue. I’ve had to deal with their support system for billing errors on their side and once you get to the right person they are very helpful but getting there takes hours on the phone.
You're doing a lot more work, but never got paid for it. Doesn't hurt to ask, or go get an offer from another company and use it as leverage if you want to stay at your current company.
Can't say we didn't see this coming.
This is good for crypto as it opens the doors for mainstream and institutional adoption at higher levels.
Plus, stable coins should be regulated and audited. Looking at you tether.
Windowless dorms, crazy 97 year old billionaire amateur architect and a bunch of corrupt university staff and committee members who would do anything to save a few bucks. What could go wrong? Humanity at its finest.
