gsibble··on Sam Altman responds to his sister's claim of sexual abuse
Just read the statement. Looks very much put together by attorneys. Absolutely no need to air all of that publicly and disparage a family member. You have billions. Just give her a little and help her find peace if what you're saying is true.
gsibble··on Sam Altman responds to his sister's claim of sexual abuse
I've never trusted a word Sam says so I'm going to do the same thing here and believe his sister.
gsibble··on PCalc, an Origin Story (2012)
Love PCalc. Use it multiple times a day.
gsibble··on Passkey technology is elegant, but it's most definitely not usable security
I agree with many of the downsides but the only devices I use are Apple. Macs, iPhone, iPad. For me, passkeys are universally simple.

Sorry other OSes and browsers other than Safari, which I switched to specifically for passkeys and Apple Pay, aren't as elegant.

That's Apple's advantage. Their hardware and software ecosystem.

And that's why I never look at anything else.

gsibble··on Palm’s CEO emails Steve Jobs (2007)
Seriously
gsibble··on OpenAI whistleblower found dead in San Francisco apartment
I enjoy using Generative AI but have significant moral qualms with how they train their data. They flagrantly ignore copyright law for a significant amount of their data. The fact they do enter into licensing agreements with some publishers basically shows they know they are breaking the law.
gsibble··on OpenAI whistleblower found dead in San Francisco apartment
Oh, I got a lot of those for hate. The good news is it was easy to report them and I got most people who sent them banned. It's highly against reddit's TOS and something they enforce.
gsibble··on OpenAI whistleblower found dead in San Francisco apartment
Well put. Almost all of the SF startups I worked for were run by sociopaths willing to break any rule I eventually learned. One is now being charged by the FTC for massive violations. I hated the immoral mindset of winning at the cost of everything from employee comfort to flagrantly illegal activities with customers.
gsibble··on Judge reaffirms ruling that invalidated Tesla pay package for Elon Musk
This will be the end of incorporating in Delaware if this ruling is allowed to stand

Judges should not be invalidating the desires of shareholders as long as they are legal

gsibble··on Elon Musk's multibillion-dollar Tesla pay package blocked by a judge again
This will be the end of incorporating in Delaware if this ruling is allowed to stand.
gsibble··on Elon Musk's first order of business in Trump administration: Kill remote work
For sure this is just another form of laying off workers, but as bloated as the federal government is, I'm fine with it.

You do realize that for at least the past year, the only reason the employment reports have had a positive figure is because the government is hiring more people than the private sector is laying off? That's unsustainable.

gsibble··on Apple and iOS Are Falling Behind
Thank you. While I agree with the other poster that most OSes are stagnant, I think iOS is particularly bad.
gsibble··on Apple and iOS Are Falling Behind
Pretty much
gsibble··on Intel took billions from the CHIPS Act, and gave nothing back
Naturally, anything going against the prevailing narrative of SF gets flagged. Not like Intel is laying off 15,000 - 20,000 workers who are SOL now even though they took tens of billions in taxpayer money.
gsibble··on Why the collapse of the Generative AI bubble may be imminent
Agreed. Also been calling it for a while. Despite my best attempts, the only real uses for LLMs I've found are making chatbots (especially to interact with APIs), writing things like press releases, and using Github Copilot (which is admittedly awesome).
gsibble··on Intel took billions from the CHIPS Act, and gave nothing back
TSMC is building in the US and even Intel is using them since they are so far ahead engineering wise.
gsibble··on AI is not a Net Positive for Society
My prospect is reduced work and no income.

Reduced work with everything provided would of course be optimal.

gsibble··on AI is not a Net Positive for Society
Well, there goes HN censoring things they don't like again. This was at #5 on the front page and is now around #70 with no explanation.
gsibble··on AI is not a Net Positive for Society
That's my point basically. Since AI is owned by so few, all of the profits from it will flow to 0.01% of society or less and leave the rest of us with scraps.

And that's the entire point of companies like OpenAI.

gsibble··on AI is not a Net Positive for Society
That would require some kind of profit sharing agreement from the companies that benefit from replacing employees to redistribute to society, which frankly I cannot ever seen happening.

This is that "tax" I hinted at in my article.

gsibble··on [dead]
I removed anything political from it since that seemed to be what annoyed people.

It's getting lots of votes. Apparently people find this interesting.

gsibble··on [dead]
Childcare is ridiculously expensive to provide too especially when you consider the infrastructure isn't there either and would need to be built.
gsibble··on [dead]
Exactly. It's insane.
gsibble··on GPT-6 needs multiple datacenters to train the model. 100k H100
That is absolutely fascinating and probably why Gates and Microsoft are so heavily invested in fusion.
gsibble··on Working remotely can more than halve an office employee’s carbon footprint
And yet they don't care.
gsibble··on WeWork Is on the Brink of Collapse
See where I pointed out it represents $16B in lease obligations they are about to default on and the fact those buildings are likely to be repossessed. And then think about the effect on the price of commercial real estate when they are sold in foreclosure.
gsibble··on WeWork Issues Going-Concern Warning
Just wrote an article about this:

https://innovationnation.blog/p/wedidntwork?sd=pf

They have over $16B in lease obligations they would default on if they go bankrupt. This would be catastrophic to the already challenged commercial real estate sector.

gsibble··on The Rise of AI Girlfriends
HN has shadow banned this article. I contacted them:

"It's too sensational a topic for us"
