grvdrm··on Why media fans want to escape algorithms with CDs, DVDs and vinyl
I am so mad / ashamed that I tossed my big CD book not long ago. Now would be a perfect time to rip those CDs - especially as I am getting into DJ work on the side!
grvdrm··on Suits Are Better Tech Than Modern Clothes
Why aren’t they practical? A rotating collection seems quite practical and frankly easier to style.

Jacket and pants don’t need any coordination - they already match. Turn the shirt underneath up or down the style meter as you please. Same with pants and socks.

grvdrm··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
I don’t get the commit thing. I see it too. “I’ll see how work is and let you know” or something like it. My view is always that an advance plan reduces rather than increases anxiety.
grvdrm··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
For those of us with kids - it’s the restaurant and the babysitter cost. Or you can bring kids but that’s not always desirable or feasible.

Little confused by your example. Your wife hosts (let’s say on a Saturday) but prepares for it all week and doesn’t help with kids? Is that right?

grvdrm··on Self-Hosting on the Dark Web
Agree completely. First thing that stands out about it: unique design. I immediately enjoy looking at it.
grvdrm··on I'm the mom in that viral Giants clip. Let me tell you about my husband
A gem of a point. Thank you.

Indeed. You’re with me!

Amused by a claim about writing composition that uses “clearly mostly” back to back.

Just another day in this admin.
grvdrm··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
How do you orchestrate the various machines? Sounds like a great idea.
grvdrm··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
Do I understand correctly that by using your machine and Claude Code or something like it you are avoiding API pricing?
grvdrm··on Fuck it, make it anyway
Completely agree. You tell the best story for your product doing it that way.
grvdrm··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
Well said. It's not that I disagree with the concept, just that the action itself is not meaningful to the overall process (not without a lot more people doing the same).

I've never written a name not on the ballot but wonder sorts of feelings arise afterwards. Is it "Good, I did the right thing"?

grvdrm··on Kale: A Transformation-Safe Spreadsheet System
In a way if people can’t yet use spreadsheets correctly (but they think they do) then it’s impossible to move them away.

Also the OP has much about the programmatic components, but Excel is also an interface. The front end of an unofficial corporate app. And people know (they think) how to use it.

I just listened to a demo of an insurance industry SaaS that isn’t yet public. Goal to move many things out of spreadsheets. Had AI agents built in and all sorts of bells and whistles. But the screens were chaos. I immediately thought it was just too “complicated” to switch a person off the busy/messy system they know - Excel.

grvdrm··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
Fair take, I think.

But we didn’t have to vote DJT into office as a counteracting force. Whether every decision is bad or not, not my point. It just seemed obvious that he wasn’t the right guy.

Some people can’t vote against their party. Some people believe write in is the move.

I suspect (anecdote) vaping is just as bad if not worse. People vape EVERYWHERE. Almost any place you can't smoke, people still vape. So - that it happens that way makes me think the total exposure is a lurking problem.
grvdrm··on Claude writing a macOS driver for my obscure HP printer built only for Windows
Doing something similar with audio equipment. I have an older USB midi controller that doesn’t seem to have official support. Claude helped bring it back to life!
grvdrm··on Being ambitious and being a dad
> Some figures in technology (Paul Graham, DHH, Jeff Dean, even Mark Zuckerberg) seem to be pushing on both fronts with rare success

Possibly true, but who knows. Especially Zuck, who does not lead a remotely ordinary life (imo).

Dad of 2 girls. 8 and 4. Maybe this should be titled “being ambitious because you’re a dad”

I am better than ever post kids. Always great, no. Always amazing, no. Not sure I agree with the post otherwise, especially quality vs quantity. High quality interactions are the best.

grvdrm··on Everything you do is being recorded
Traversing life without a cell phone is a fun experiment. Here and there I forget mine and spend a day without the distraction - glorious way to spend time.
grvdrm··on You're not uncool. Making friends as an adult is just hard (2021)
London city or London and all surrounding small town areas? I’m outside NYC. Tons of apps in NYC market and I can’t imagine another. But the suburban market has fewer or none.

My point was that even as an avid music fan, I don’t hear a lot of folks looking for another app for this but maybe I am way underestimating what’s possible.

grvdrm··on You're not uncool. Making friends as an adult is just hard (2021)
> homohysteria

Do men (here) experience this often? Not often? I’ve not stumbled into this problem in many years. Perhaps this is an exaggerated issue.

And I’m still making male friends - not every day, but not none!

grvdrm··on You're not uncool. Making friends as an adult is just hard (2021)
I’m interested but then I ask: who pays?

Not cynically. Just, is this a hobby for someone? If so, awesome. In my town we have a WhatsApp org for local musicians that helps with gear exchange, gig promotion, collaboration, etc.

Restaurants and bars and event spaces use a myriad of promotion vehicles. Other local businesses. The paper. Official announcements from the town. Other events. Etc. Same with the groups playing.

The ways to find this stuff aren’t amazing but not so bad that I’m searching for another app on my phone.

grvdrm··on BMW Is Showing Commercials on Their Car's Dash Screens as a Treat
Interesting 0.02.

Recents for me: 2020 X5 xDrive40i, 2023 M340 xdrive, 2026 i4 xDrive40i.

When I bought the X5, I tried all sorts of other comparable models, both higher and lower price/quality.

I thought Lexus SUVs drove like 1990's era Mercury Grand Marquis -- "refined" is one way of putting it. Mazda claims their cars are solid handlers but my experience with three of them is, well, meh - very model dependent. Volvo SUV handling - refined, but the vehicles feel large.

Long way of saying - I feel when driving BMWs that they drive as the brand describes them: the ultimate driving machine. Refined is not the first word that comes to mind, but not far down the list.

2026 i4 is awesome. I won't argue the range. Pretty pathetic but that car isn't my range warrior anyways.

grvdrm··on How to Spot AI Writing
Just tried this as part of an ask about chronic inflammation. What an enormous difference your tip makes in the reply style and structure - wow. And thank you.
grvdrm··on Termixer (TUI DJ Mixer)
Both suck. I think the entire industry would dump Rekordbox, but it is the tool the matches the CDJs.
grvdrm··on Dubious research tied to Red Bull has shaped energy drink policy
I drink Celsius. Not every day, but here and there. Also coffee.

So, a real answer instead of "it doesn't"

- It doesn't taste like coffee. Relatively flavorful, but obviously a bit on the artificial side

- I drink a Celsius when I am targeting minimal stomach disruption (e.g. before a run or before intensive cardio)

- I drink a Celsius when I don't want to wait for the coffee-maker during early morning hours.

- I drink Celsius if I run out of creamer (for coffee), something I don't need anyways but I like.

- Cold brew is acceptable substitute if I don't have a Celsius.

- Normal brewed coffee otherwise.
