grimgrin··on Imgator: Compress, convert, edit and resize your images
Cool.

This is someone's project that works locally as well, on every operating system, without installing anything except 1 web browser.

If the author wanted, they could even ship it in a redbean ;)

https://redbean.dev

Here is a nice starting point, if they're reading this and interested https://github.com/ProducerMatt/redbean-template

grimgrin··on Show HN: I made a web-based notepad with a built in unit calculator
I wanted to see how this would run in redbean[1], and it runs fantastically!

If you wanna see this in a little executable that you can pass around to your friends, check out this repo I threw up: https://github.com/shmup/redbean-calcpad

This is now essentially an offline CalcPad that still leverages LocalStorage, since the UI is your browser. I've configured this specific build to automatically launch your default browser when you run it.

grimgrin··on RavynOS – Finesse of macOS, freedom of FreeBSD
re: “priceless”, i mean i agree and set alt to ctrl for the same vibe on linux and windows

but otoh ppl have strong opinions for the exact same reasons (hand/finger dexterity) by assigning ctrl to caps lock

less weird-pinky/hand-rotation does feel like a win, though

grimgrin··on Using the same Arch Linux installation for a decade
So to recall the above, had you blogged about this, wrote in your journal, or just queried your damn memory??
grimgrin··on Redbean web server debugging with ZeroBrane Studio
And I'll reply here to say that though the article mentions "should work on Linux", I have tested and it _does work on linux_.
grimgrin··on Redbean web server debugging with ZeroBrane Studio
A nice way to debug is just what we needed.

Paul has been very foundational to a positive spirit in the cosmo/redbean community. Besides this cool work, they're also the author of fullmoon, a web framework for redbean

grimgrin··on Show HN: Penumbra, a perceptually optimized color palette based on natural light
If anyone is keen on making some vim colorschemes based off of this, you might like romainl's colorscheme template:

https://github.com/romainl/vim-rnb

> RNB is a template designed to help vimmers create their own colorschemes without much effort.

grimgrin··on The Pickleball Troll
the key to a solid troll, as greg understood, is the believable line it walks.

this example bit you paste is just, i suppose, a comedy. tho even with that i’m sure you could stir up someone, esp if they stopped reading to reply at first impulse

grimgrin··on [dead]
The author is definitely missing out on the best blogging experience. Anyways:

grimgrin··on Rust is actually portable
I didn't downvote you, for what it's worth :P
grimgrin··on Rust is actually portable
Because at first glance it lacked context. Now the OP has updated it with relevancy, by quoting a bit from the article author.
grimgrin··on Show HN: Porting OpenBSD Pledge() to Linux
If you find this post interesting, and would like to follow (or take part in) the discussions that happen around these new developments, I highly suggest you pop into the redbean discord! It covers more than just the scope of redbean and the community is really blossoming

This does work. The setting wasn't listed for me, but I added it. Something I didn't realize you could do: add new settings

in other earthworm news, I recently learned about the invasiveness of earthworms (in minnesota)

grimgrin··on Teach your kids bridge, not poker
I’m a big fan of climbing games as they require a consideration to the order you play your hand unlike most other games. Doesn’t hurt that your hands are large, a dozen or more cards

I think of the best 2 player variant, Haggis. And Tichu (partnered). And Dou dizhu (2v1)

it's free, yeah

grimgrin··on Lets Get Arrested (2019)
if you open this on mobile and need to get that alert/popup closed, go to another app and click a link to take focus back in your mobile browser, then you can locate the Bad Tab and nuke it

or at least that’s what i managed on ios w/ firefox

grimgrin··on The Windows 11 taskbar is an annoying step backward
This is incredible, thank you for linking.

You run it, display instantly looks better, and has a very nicely laid out set of features to play with

Even things like the WiFi flyout (a term I didn't know) can be changed: https://i.imgur.com/JHVvzPG.png

Appears its author even dedicated a blog post specifically to this: https://valinet.ro/2021/11/18/Functional-Windows-10-flyouts-...

does anyone here write code, align with having aphantasia, and have some form of an alternative answer to thread? alt.answer might end up being the same answers, idk what i'm saying, barely know what i'm asking

> Discord on the other hand has a big problem: using a third party client is bannable

Hm, that is probably true. Didn't consider. So be it, wish the Ripcord author some luck!

https://cancel.fm/ripcord/

> Ripcord is a desktop chat client for group-centric services like Slack and Discord. It provides a traditional compact desktop interface designed for power users. It's not built on top of web browser technology: it has a small resource footprint, responds quickly to input, and gets out of your way. Shareware is coming back, baby.

Some years of using this and I'm quite a fan. Voice works, but not streaming video, last I checked

grimgrin··on How to parse EVE Online chat logs (in Common Lisp)
I like to enhance games with log parsing too. Been playing muds again lately and writing logs with the mud/telnet client (tintin++) to be parsed/spat out in tmux splits, which works great

(as an aside, I started looking and testing mushclient, which is adored by many. nick gammon has been upkeeping it for years and it offers a ton of features/settings)
