gremloni··on The Arctic Is Warming Four Times Faster Than the Rest of the World
Gross. It’s still going to be cold a lot. Endless seas of mosquitoes and biting insects during the brief summer. Hell on earth.
gremloni··on Yale researchers develop mRNA-based lyme disease vaccine
Okay let’s have it then. I can sleep in the woods without fear again.
gremloni··on Uber deactivated some transgender drivers' accounts for 'fraudulent' photos
Or as a different race with transracial people for that matter. Sosa is pretty high profile but I’ve seen a large community in NYC and the boroughs
gremloni··on Japanese scientists develop vaccine to eliminate cells behind aging
Go be cynical in the corner. Maybe your life hasn’t panned out all that well but stop injecting your pessimism into everything so the rest of us can have nice things.
gremloni··on Ask HN: What do you read for general knowledge?
I like to follow link chains on Wikipedia.
gremloni··on Ask HN: What do you read for general knowledge?
Joe Rogan only sometimes mentions politics?
gremloni··on Japanese scientists develop vaccine to eliminate cells behind aging
It’s going to be really hard keeping immortality under wraps now. The world is globalized and even under the most pessimistic of timelines it will eventually be open knowledge.
gremloni··on Why the demographic transition is speeding up
Dominated the world for the tiniest sliver of human civilization. Asia is coming back strong again.
gremloni··on Why the demographic transition is speeding up
Nonsense. For 95% of recorded human history the Chinese and Indians were the richest and most productive civilizations and you can’t call those populations small. It’s like you’re living in your own narrative.
gremloni··on Japanese scientists develop vaccine to eliminate cells behind aging
Stop being a Luddite. That’s how technology works. First it’s available to only the super rich because it is expensive, then over time with advances and improvement or production it becomes more widely available. It’s cell therapy, it will inevitable end up becoming cheap.
gremloni··on Japanese scientists develop vaccine to eliminate cells behind aging
Probably around 28 so I’m done growing to my final height.
gremloni··on FBI may shut down police use-of-force database due to lack of police involvement
It’s because republicans want the police to uphold their values (subjugate minorities, maintain their power etc.) which the crooked cops currently do. If the cops as a general monolith actually upheld the law and treated everyone equally, republicans would turn on them in an instant.
gremloni··on SF Millennium Tower Tilts Quarter Inch in Four Days
Even after all the changes I watched in the practical engineering video?
gremloni··on Why U.S. Infrastructure Costs So Much
Same old both sides argument. It’s getting old when the republicans are authoritarian snakes and are efficiently gutting this country and filling their pockets. The modern democrats are ineffectual and that’s their only crime.
gremloni··on Player of Games
If anything the caliber and lore of the series gives the project an incredible amount of gravitas. Plus the scheme is just plain beautiful in my opinion.
gremloni··on YouTube deleting comments who criticize their hiding of the dislike count
No you’re a dissembling idiot trying to wheedle your bigotry. This will go fine for a while but you’ll become a stone hearted shell in due time.
gremloni··on YouTube deleting comments who criticize their hiding of the dislike count
Yes it’s just good for it’s own sake. The aim has to be the mitigation of problems that will arise from integrated living like that.
gremloni··on Singapore: Sovereign City
It’s not worth it. That being said I don’t know if Singapore is all that bad.
gremloni··on YouTube deleting comments who criticize their hiding of the dislike count
Diversity for these purposes is biologically defined. Different race, different sex are pretty much it. A difference in ideology within the same race or sex doesn’t doesn’t count as diverse as I’m using it.
gremloni··on YouTube deleting comments who criticize their hiding of the dislike count
That’s because the like:dislike ratio on contentious issues no longer tells you if the video is worth your time but rather is a reflection of some manipulated brigading effort, atleast anecdotally. This actually does make the ratio useless.
gremloni··on YouTube deleting comments who criticize their hiding of the dislike count
> blatantly and prominently push their political agenda

Only if you consider egalitarianism and diversity as political issues. To most of society they are universal values so it’s not contentious.

gremloni··on The U.S. productivity slowdown: an economy-wide and industry-level analysis
I believe it’s a mix of an explosion of recreation and entertainment options that people can’t wait to get back to and it getting increasingly hard to maintain the paradigm of work being a virtue.
gremloni··on The U.S. productivity slowdown: an economy-wide and industry-level analysis
Even four days a week is too much to be honest though I don’t know if our current societal paradigm could handle anything less than that. With how productive and involved work is now, working white collar jobs are hard. It isn’t like 30-40 years ago when everyone worked at a relaxed pace at relatively low mentally intensive tasks.
gremloni··on The U.S. productivity slowdown: an economy-wide and industry-level analysis
Why would it not be a victory? Who likes working for someone else when you don’t have to. I can think of an infinite number of things to do with free time if I didn’t have to work for money.
gremloni··on Scientists find a way to ‘catapult’ rockets into space like ‘slingshots’
Thunder started out great but now he just likes to rationalize the dominant perspective. It’s a loss.
gremloni··on Germany: New government plans 'right to encryption'
Germany does a lot of things right. Why can’t we achieve anything reasonable in the US anymore?
gremloni··on Buried in Infrastructure Bill Is a Mandatory Backdoor Kill Switch for Your Car
No. I think we should just accept the deaths and losses from drunk driving and thefts as long as mitigation involves universal control over items I own.

Not to mention, you’ll probably just end up buying humid air blowers that get past this block.

gremloni··on Lessons from seven years of remote work
Oh I disagree. I don’t mind if you ramble during a video/voice call but please don’t send me whole paragraphs in slack unless you need to.
gremloni··on Study links high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease to plastics
But many don’t. It’s usually a wax backing at my grocery store.

Glass isn’t all that uncommon and aluminum is ubiquitous.

Alcohol works too, just make sure it has no methanol that kids and pets might lick.

gremloni··on Study links high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease to plastics
It’s actually easier than you think to mostly cut out plastic from food and drink. If you mostly cook at home— use paper/cloth bags at the grocery store, buy unprocessed foods, get meat, fish, deli, cheese etc paper wrapped, get drinks in aluminum or glass bottles, use only glass to store and drink water with at home. Some plastic use on processed foods is unavoidable but I’m trying to reduce exposure as much as possible. Another thing is to switch out your shampoo, soaps, dish washing liquid etc. for EWG certified products with no pthalates, parabens etc. Also vinegar instead of disinfectants to clean surfaces in the home.
