greenhatman··on Jeffrey Epstein: Financier 'found dead in cell' in New York
That is too much for one sentence. More sentences would read easier.
greenhatman··on Bill Gates Resume (1974)
So he was earning 75k at age 18, and was looking for his next increase.
greenhatman··on Browsers are pretty good at loading pages
I've never found a bug on there, and I've been on it many times.

I'd love if you can show me how to reproduce this bug.

I just don't have this experience with SPAs breaking. I actually have no idea where it's coming from.

greenhatman··on Browsers are pretty good at loading pages
It's not as fast as https://dev.to/, which is an SPA. I.e. client side routing.
greenhatman··on Protesters in Hong Kong are getting attacked by masked thugs
I think he's implying that Antifa is government sponsored as well.
greenhatman··on Tesla employees say they took shortcuts, worked through harsh conditions
Parent comment doesn't have much to do with anything. Who decides what a 'real' car company does?
greenhatman··on Mary Meeker’s 2019 internet trends report [pdf]
People and companies would systematically move overseas. People would renounce US citizenship.
greenhatman··on Nebula: A paid alternative to YouTube, curated by the creators
I honestly think it is, and becoming more so. I've personally already signed up for YouTube premium, because I hate ads. I've signed up to this as well.

I'd gladly pay for quality content. My time is worth it. And are most people's.

greenhatman··on Nebula: A paid alternative to YouTube, curated by the creators
Seems like there are a few bugs. I still subscribed. I hope this succeeds.
greenhatman··on Epic Games is killing Linux support for games and software it acquired
I already can't play anything on physical media. I don't have an optical drive anymore.
greenhatman··on Stripe’s fifth engineering hub is Remote
I work remotely for a U.S. based company from South Africa. I don't think they do anything special for each different territory. The IRS stuff just has two categories - U.S. and outside U.S.

I'd love to apply for an engineering job at Stripe.

greenhatman··on What No One Tells You About Noise Cancelling Headphones
I wear my Sennheiser PXC 550 most days for more than 8 hours a day. I've never had pain or discomfort from it.
greenhatman··on Mozilla WebThings
If we stopped doing things because they might fail we'd be nowhere.
greenhatman··on How to organize a study group, book club, online group or event
I oppose it for small events. You don't have a code of conduct for a party or a gathering of friends. It's just assumed that if you're not a positive influence in the group you're probably not getting invited to the next gathering.

To me, it just feels too impersonal. Everyone is different, and most people like to be treated differently in some ways. People communicate this through facial expressions and body language.

It just feels more organic without too many formal rules.

greenhatman··on A Magician Explains Why We See What’s Not There
My feeling is that AI would be able to do this much better and more consistently than humans in a relatively short amount of training time.

Provided that for instance all Teslas can learn from all other Teslas' experience.

greenhatman··on The Death of External Storage: Where's Google?
There should be a Linux phone for technically savvy people who want a real computer in their pockets.

Most of us are probably willing to pay a premium for this. Librem 5 Looks promising, but its hardware is not as good as the popular flagships.

greenhatman··on Apple Watch detects irregular heart beat in large U.S. study
>but they perform a lot better than coin toss

I'm curious how that was tested. And if there is a source for this.

greenhatman··on Apple Watch detects irregular heart beat in large U.S. study
It's borderline useless. And can do lots of harm if assumed that it's useful.
greenhatman··on A Front End Does Not Have to Be Rich
That just means the site is slow. That has nothing to do with SPA.
greenhatman··on I'm still not using GUIs in 2019: A guide to the terminal
I can't think of a reason why discoverability necessarily needs to be hard in CLI apps. I think all apps, including CLI apps, should have a fuzzy search for all commands.

ZSH takes some steps in the right direction with this, with how it handles tab completion.

greenhatman··on Launch HN: Modern Labor (YC W19) – Paying People to Learn to Code
Exactly this. No program can produce graduates to compete with experienced engineers. So it's not a threat to experienced engineers. It does force us though to keep learning, otherwise we might well find ourselves in competition with people with less experience.
greenhatman··on Buefy: UI Components for Vue.js Based on Bulma
Seems very clear to me. What is the alternative?
greenhatman··on You probably don't need a single-page app
I think dev.to is an SPA. But not built with a framework.
greenhatman··on CRISPR machines that can wipe out entire species
They'd have to abduct hundreds of thousands of people (or clone a bunch), edit their genes, and release them back into their countries of origin. And then it would take a few generations.
greenhatman··on Demand and Salaries for Data Scientists Continue to Climb
It's relevant for software engineers who read the title and consider going into data science instead.
greenhatman··on New Dell XPS 13 developer edition now available
I'm really excited to see what the next XPS 15 will look like.
greenhatman··on Too Many Americans Will Never Be Able to Retire
The fewer people work, the more scarce products and services become, and the more expensive everything becomes. So it would probably make retiring early unfeasible. Unless things get automated to a degree that causes abundance.

Either way I'd imagine you'd be able to live a more relaxed life. With 50 years work experience you'd probably be very effective. Your probably only need to work 2 or 3 days per week.

greenhatman··on Notion – All-in-one workspace for notes, tasks, wikis, and databases
They use Electron, but don't have a build for Linux. Why.
greenhatman··on You can now set your status on GitHub
I've never hand multi monitor problems with Linux. I'm running Mint on my MacBook.

The only thing that was difficult for me, was installing my webcam drivers.

greenhatman··on You can now set your status on GitHub
If you want total control over your computer, Linux is still here. And it's better than ever.
