I find it actually kinda worrying that many seem to have a perception that making up news is a new thing. The only thing that has changed is the volume of information, people in control of news sources have been lying since time immemorial.
My anecdote from spending ages immersed in video games and the internet has precisely the opposite sentiment. I find it heartbreaking how many youths replace socialization with social media and endless digital distraction.
I think it's (it being the socially damaging effects of persistent internet access) is going to get way worse before it gets better. Rising depression rates in youth are happening, but nobody is even talking about this on the 'mainstream', it's just not openly visible yet. Meanwhile the Google's and Facebook's algorithms keep getting more finely tuned . . .
Nice retort. In the modern fear fueled environment the cries of "but what about the bad guys?!?" have gotten very old to me. Letting a minority ruin your ability to trust people is very unhealthy.
It's a good comparison honestly. They stripped away all the complexity of dota to this one single scenario were the things bot's are naturally going to be good at (last hitting, precise distance evaluation) matter over strategy.
It was the 7 roach rush. Used extractor trick which was generally considered a bad idea by humans due to being economically bad as well as a double overlord which is also against general build principles, but it turned out that it smoothed into an insanely efficient early attack.
Rare Uber related news that sounds good for the company. If this sees a good rate of adoption, and the idea does sound reasonable to me so it may, it would create a much more stable model for reliable revenue that being business to business can provide.
I would much rather billionaire types take on large issues that governments don't want to touch, like space flight or specific diseases in foreign countries, than something already in service like libraries. Maybe I just have a bias due to having a library just up the street from where I live currently, but I have never not had access to an adequate library in my life time, and only see room for marginal diminishing returns in improving them.
I think your underselling how cheap yeast is when you forgo the 'convenience tax'. I get WAY more than 15 pizzas worth of risen dough from a ~5 dollar jar.
Television is good, and the indie game scene is utterly fantastic these days. It just blows my mind how unwilling some of the biggest players in media creation are in terms of being creative.
Personally I find the modern remake/sequel/etc trend appalling. Are people really this adverse to trying new things? Are they not tired of the same formulas? I'm more in tune with gaming than movies but even there all I see is constant adaptations of stories from other media.
I am typically very health conscious, even an aspiring sort of pseudo-vegetarian, with the exception of cured meat. Keep hearing about how bad the stuff is for you but you can pry my prosciutto from my cold dead hands.
Your not wrong, but I just want to make an aside about how I think 'obvious' is a dirty word. Things are only ever obvious when you already have domain knowledge, which you can't assume of everyone even in something as ubiquitous as diet. Yes, once you understand hobbies or dieting the vast majority of down to earth honest advice is going to be HIGHLY boring and repetitive. But Some people still might not have got the message, and some messages are worth repeating to help them out. All this withstanding, I also don't feel like this stuff is HN material.
My neo-luddite instincts told me to agree with parent, but you make a good point. Copying keys is trivial (I used an automated booth in a pharmacy that was android based the other week, cost like 10 bucks for 3 copies) when having to deal with potentially malicious guests adding complexity to the simple act of locking serves a real purpose.
