The screen shot shows a bunch of very old looking movies, and categories like film-noir and biography. Is there really a vast resource of torrents for all potential movies with enough seeds to stream them for real-time viewing?
– Have strong thermal insulation without thermal bridges,
– Be perfectly airtight,
– Capture maximum solar energy.
"Perfectly airtight? With wood and insulation?
I guess github should replace their "Fork me on github" banner with a "Rip off my work" banner.
Not in any real detail anyway.
It is 17 digits long, which is 4 digits longer than the normal new Date().getTime()"
Is this serious? I can't find any assignment of "when" in the code. And why would you expect hyper precise timing from js? And if it has four more digits wouldn't it no longer be milliseconds?
"Exercise: You can’t out-exercise a bad diet, but regular exercise helps keep weight off, and changes your attitude for the better. And exercise has enormous health benefits beyond any impact on weight. What exercise? Something. Anything. “Some is good, more is better, everything counts” Freedhoff suggests."
How do you know it is commented correctly? Now you have to understand the code and the comment and mentally confirm them to be in sync. You also have to maintain the comment when you make changes to the code and you have to trust that others are going to do the same.
It would be better if the code itself was expressive enough so that a comment wasn't needed.
Can you explain that a bit?
"1964 - John Kemeny and Thomas Kurtz create BASIC, an unstructured programming language for non -computer scientists.
1965 - Kemeny and Kurtz go to 1964."
How? What is it to publicly announce that you like something? That's an endorsement. Why else would you be "liking" something on FB? To privately remind yourself that you like it?
Particularly the teaching of jQuery to people who are just starting out. And the multiple assertions that one can "pick it up in a day", whether it be programming or teaching skills.
Seems to be about throwing together a web page in a day rather than learning to code.
And it seems the usefulness of computer programs doesn't extend beyond ecards, web sites, and "apps".
The word 'friend' is used over ten times referring to some human acquaintance or other but it really seems like this person doesn't have a single real friend.
The library isn't "functional", does very little of use, and horribly pollutes the global name space.
Maybe he just felt like venting about jQuery overuse and snobby programmers.
I'd hate to see the front page of HN turn into a YC complaint board.
Gary Bernhardt covered this humorously here: https://www.destroyallsoftware.com/talks/wat
And Crockford covers some issues more formally in his talks.
The takeaway is that if you do something that can possibly be interpreted in a strange way, javascript is mostly likely going to interpret it in a way that you didn't expect. You could say it sucks because of that and/or you can look at the ecmascript standard and try to reason about it. But either way, it's best not to do anything even slightly ambiguous. Stick to the good parts.
