gosukiwi··on Plan mode is dead
Personally I really like grilling before a big feature, it's a Matt Pocock skill that will iterate and ask you a lot of questions so you REALLY know what you are building. It's particularly good for complex and big changes, so you actually know what the AI is gonna build before it does. Of course, that's not always the case, sometimes you don't care about the specifics. But I think an integrated "plan mode" is really not needed, maybe a "brainstorming" skill would be more useful.

How do you think it compares to Grok and Gemini?
gosukiwi··on English ↔ Claudish Translator
I use this one and it's ok https://github.com/cursor/plugins/blob/main/pstack/skills/br...
gosukiwi··on Squeak 6.1
I learned about Smalltalk from Ruby, because DHH recommended a book about Smalltalk back in the day. I really enjoy Smalltalk-style OOP, but at the same time it can be so different to Java enterprise OOP with all its patterns.

Nowadays I write a lot of TypeScript and prefer having a type system (especially for agentic coding), but Ruby is one of my favorite languages to write myself :)

gosukiwi··on MiMo Code is now released and open-source
Claude and Codex pricing will eventually have to come down, for most common coding tasks you don't need a super smart slow model but a smart-enough and very fast one.

gosukiwi··on Googlebook
So its the same you can do with using any AI app, but they make you buy an inferior notebook (compared to macbooks)

I wonder how does this compare to superpowers
gosukiwi··on CJIT: C, Just in Time
Did you use Codex 5.4 for the web design? :p I think Codex tends to do very similar designs, could be completely mistaken tho
gosukiwi··on Music for Programming
I love instrumental only hip hop beats like shamisen x hip hop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qi_-RmXz_g
gosukiwi··on Microsoft's "fix" for Windows 11
Out of those I think Gaming might be the biggest, and some games like League of Legends (all Riot games) need Vanguard, their anti-cheat which only works on Windows. So it's not easy for Valve but hopefully it will get there sometime.

The biggest reason I don't just migrate is because gaming. Most steam games could work on Linux but then if you want to play one that doesn't you have a problem. I'd rather just use Windows and never have a problem, because the game was designed for my platform.

That being said, for work I use macOS.

gosukiwi··on Why I love FreeBSD
When I tried FreeBSD, I was also blown away by the manual, so simple, such high-quality documentation. I think what I liked the most is that it felt coherent, unlike modern OS like Linux and Windows. I think macOS might be the most cohesive of the popular OS's.
gosukiwi··on Heroku Support for .NET 10
Isn't Dokku doing that already?
gosukiwi··on Run TypeScript code without worrying about configuration
TypeScript is great, the only bad thing is that it can be a pain to get the configuration right
gosukiwi··on K1 Buys MariaDB
Little bobby tables they called him
gosukiwi··on Why is Chile so long?
That spanish similarity thing can't be right. Argentina and Uruguay speak basically the same spanish (unless you count dialects like Cordoba)
gosukiwi··on Outlook is Microsoft's new data collection service
If you are on Windows, the antivirus might have something to do. It used to be slow for me too but I added an exception and now it's really fast, or at least fast enough so I don't perceive any significant lag.
gosukiwi··on I don’t buy “duplication is cheaper than the wrong abstraction” (2021)
I like Dan Abramov's "The Wet Codebase" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17KCHwOwgms) -- I've been guilty of doing just what he says in his talk at first, removing all duplications and making the codebase DRY. But then I came to like "prefer duplication over the wrong abstraction", as Sandi Metz puts it.

Sometimes it's good to wait to have more data to make an easier and more informed decision.

gosukiwi··on Closure, from why the lucky stiff (2013)
Yeah not my thing either, I'd rather see a cheatsheet and a few examples lol
gosukiwi··on TypeScript 5.2's new keyword: 'Using'
That was my first though, but a) it seems that the `using` syntax is not exactly the same as in C# (unless the old C# I used to use) and b) still I wouldn't mind, C# is a great language
gosukiwi··on We’re no longer sunsetting the free team plan
... for now.
gosukiwi··on How Python virtual environments work
It also makes it very hard for new devs willing to learn Python. Coming from Ruby and JavaScript, you just use bundler or npm, but Python is so strange, even the way it runs files is different, with the module thing.
gosukiwi··on PHP in 2023
Speaking of which, how good is .NET on Linux nowadays?

I know it was possible for a long time (with the release .NET Core), but heard it was kind of broken/cumbersome on Linux. Maybe now it's easier to just develop an ASP.NET app, host it on Linux and use Posgres/Mysql instead of SQL Server?

gosukiwi··on An Overview Of Upcoming Ruby on Rails 7.1 Features Part 1
To be fair most of typing problems in Rails can be solved by having contracts and an operation pattern, kind of like Trailblazer, although they went a little bit too far lol
gosukiwi··on Next, Nest, Nuxt Nust?
Well what I meant there was just that the framework doesn't take care of that for you, you need a third-party library.
gosukiwi··on Next, Nest, Nuxt Nust?
I'm writing a small side project app using Next.js. I found out the bad way that i18n support is quite bad. Sure, you get an i18n router, but you have to manage translations on your own. There are libraries to do it, which are fine, but translations only work in the front-end, there's no way to, for example, use translations inside an API call (!!).

Also, halfway through they decided to push a new Next.js version (still in beta) so you''ll need to move all your `/pages` to an `/app` folder, with a completely new structure.

I wanted to learn something new so that's fine, but something like Rails, Django or Laravel would have allowed me to develop way faster. I'm quite disappointed.

You can have dried lips caused by the liver (at least that's my understanding), but that's if you consume a lot, daily, for a long time
